Burger itself actually wasn't too bad, but if you order anything that isn't a burger, like chicken curry rice or something, you'll be in for a surprise. Gelato was horrible by Italian standards, was more like a 7-Eleven slushy. It was the only gelato I threw out on my entire trip. Service was super slow, even by Italian standards. Trying to pay and get out was a 20 minute affair by itself.

New York, New York never leaves us…read more Of course one of the few restaurants open late is named Manhattan. Our Airbnb host recommended the place, and we figured it was better than starving. We were pleasantly surprised by the entire experience. Friday night meant they had a live singer belting classic American songs and more recent pop. We heard the music of Elvis and JLo throughout our meal from a singer that actually sounded much better than we thought she would. The menu is bilingual and we tried to remain as authentic as possible. I opted for the carpaccio amalfi, the bf had the prawn pasta, and we split a sautéed sea bream. The carpaccio was the star of the meal. The quality of the meat was so fresh, and maybe because I'm a rare meat kind of guy, I was sad when we only had two pieces remaining. The accompanying mozzarella gave it a smooth texture addition, although the olives tasted more like they were canned. I enjoyed it down to the last bite. The pasta was my least favorite for a couple reasons. The spaghetti was a little thin (the noodles weren't dense and felt/tasted a lot lighter), and the sauce tasted a little off to me. I tried one of the prawns and just wasn't impressed. The sea bream tasted fresh, although the cooking method wasn't my favorite. I asked for lemon (which I later learned is actually disrespectful as it's said that lemon should only be used to mask the flavor of the fish), and I thought it was a slight improvement. Presentation was also not so great, as the shredded carrots made the fish look cheap. Overall we were very satisfied with the meal. The service was great, the singing was hilarious, and the amazingness of the carpaccio was definitely worth noting. Manhattan's not a bad choice for late night food, but hopefully we have more options to choose from next time.

We visited Osteria Via Pré after it was suggested to us by our host in Milano as one of the finest…read morerestaurants in the area. Even though we were pretty late (around 10pm when the Osteria is originally scheduled to close) we were kindly greeted and served. The restaurant is situated in a lovely street that branches right off Porta Genova. The street is filled with small restaurants and cafés and was teeming with people at the time. Also, there's the river promenade at Naviglio Grande just a mere couple 100 metres away. Osteria Via Pré itself fits right in there because it is a small, cozy restaurant with only a couple of tables and a bar inside, while most of its chairs and tables are located outside, facing the street. We had a very attentive, nice waiter who conversed with us in Italian, English and German and generally gave us the feeling that he was there for us whenever we wanted something. For appetizers we shared a Foccaccia which was filled with molten cheese. Absolutely delicious though the serving was a little small for two people. In any event, I think it's a positive thing that the appetizer actually left us craving more (food). For the main course both of us ate Lasagne alla Genovese. Frankly, I've never had Lasagne with pesto this green and refreshing. As far as pestos go, this one was absolutely amazing. Rich with herbal aromas, not to oily but just the perfect consistency. The lasagne was housemade and also perfectly al dente. The housewine we had (red one) was to our liking though by no means spectacular. Even after we had finished, the waiter kept an eye on us and our needs, served us a free bottle of water and chatted with us about this and that. In this regard, the mediterranean kind of mentality and atmosphere were really carried across positively. In terms of prices, Osteria Via Pré falls right into the Milano standard. Good restaurants in nice locations like this always demand prices like this in Milano, so I think if you're in Milano and you want to have a good meal, it's not reasonable to skip this one. It's as pricy as most others, offers great food, service and the location is probably more lovely and romantic than most of the crammed city center.
