It is open for at least a couple of hours each day (except Sunday). Considering its comparatively diminuitive size, the library offers a surprising range of services, most of which are free for its members (it is free to join too - bring proof of ID and address): apart from a selection of books for adults and children, covering both fiction and non-fiction available for loan, there are DVDs and videos for hire (there is a charge for that), newspapers and magazines for consultation and a number of PCs with free internet access. Although the choice of volumes is not huge, one can consult the library network's online catalogue and order any of its books to be delivered for collection at the Cottenham branch for a small charge. The library is staffed by a team of friendly and professional librarians.

There is a children's corner where they often have book readings for them and also a noticeboard where you can find out about other things going on about the town. You can also take out CDs when I last went in there.Just make sure you take them back on time to avoid fines. oops!

The library has loads on offer from books, internet dvd rentals, photo copier, toilets, childrens area. I have use the photo copier quite a lot and it is reasonably priced, I have not used the internet or the dvd rental so cannot comment on costs. The staff are always helpfull and friendly and nothing is too much trouble, I do look at the notice boards quite often as there are a few different things on offer or events coming up. The library closes on a thursday but open every other day. The library is very usefull and I will try to use it to its full purpose in future.

Only members of the University of Cambridge and Academic staff and research students from other universities can use it. Undergraduate and taught postgraduate students from other UK universities can apply to access the Library for reference during Cambridge vacations. Even if you can't get in, it is worth having a wonder round the site to be impressed by the sheer size of it. And why not keep walking and have a look around the Sidgwick site of the University of Cambridge - home to the Arts Faculties of the University.

Unfortunately you'll get arrested if you try to borrow a book. 3. WH Smiths is good for reading newspapers, unfortunately they don't give you chairs and tables to read them in peace. Actually, if you're cheeky you can go to the Costa Coffee place upstairs and read there. The new library should open in Lion Yard next year. The reason for the delay? Apparently the developers are arguing with the council over whether it should be called 'Cambridge Central Library' or 'Cambridge Library Central.' I sh t you not.

However if you're just looking for what ever takes your fancy, then it's a great place to go. It is nice and quiet plus they have some computers there, so it's an excellent place to work or study and you can pop to the Morrison's for some lunch. The staff are nice and friendly too. They have a photocopier there and they can reserve and order in books (for a small fee). It also a nice place to take your children and get them into reading.

We would sit in there practically for hours on end reading books, we practically begged our mum to go down there with us so she could let us join the library, she eventually agreed. We would usually get the maximum amount of books out that we were allowed and weirdly enough read them all before the week was up. They have a little table where we would occasionally sit and do our home work. You could loan books, magazines, baby toys and video tapes (probably DVD's now as well). I remember the staff always being really friendly.
