We were driving on our last day of vacation from Nuremberg to Frankfurt and saw the sign for a…read morecastle. We followed the road signs and ended up at Cadolzburg. After finding a random spot to park (and crossing our fingers we wouldn't be towed) we wound our way through the adorable neighborhood and up to the entrance. We wandered the main grounds and lovely garden for a bit when the husband wandered into the office area and found out we could enter the castle, and for free on this day.
After crossing the drawbridge you find yourself on what looks like a movie set. Very cool. We found out quickly that you could essentially just roam at your leisure, which is what we did...the crypt, a massive interior room (appears to be in the process of some restoration), smaller interior rooms, and the museum section that provides you with loads of info on the history of the town and castle.
It would've been a fun adventure for a couple of hours with an entrance fee...free admission was a swell and unexpected treat!
