I've banked with First Mid Bank for a long time, but after my recent experience, my wife and I…read moredecided to close all of our accounts. We originally came in on a Thursday afternoon because the bank had recently changed their account products and was going to start charging me a $10 monthly fee. We had already moved our main banking to another local bank back in March and have been much happier there. The banker helping us was actually very understanding and helpful. He explained there was still a completely free checking option available and was trying to help us keep two accounts open since we also have a CD with the bank. While he stepped away to get checks from our other accounts, the banker in the office next to us started loudly arguing with another customer. My wife and I had to sit there listening to the entire situation, and it was honestly very uncomfortable and unprofessional. That experience completely changed our minds. We told the banker helping us that we wanted to close everything out instead. Because of pending transactions he couldn't finish it that day, but he did personally call me later to confirm everything had been closed, which I appreciated. I want to be fair -- the employee helping us handled things professionally. Unfortunately, the atmosphere and lack of professionalism from other staff ruined the experience and reinforced our decision to leave.

Only giving 1 star because I have to. This bank is a complete nightmare. My partner lost his mother…read morea few months ago. His mother took him to this bank to ensure he was listed as beneficiary on all accounts, as she was aware her illness would take her sooner than later. One investment account and the mortgage were missed. No big deal, right? WRONG!! He has sent documentation to this disaster of a business multiple times to no avail. Now they need a letter from him to them naming himself as the successor.... They have the Will (naming him as sole heir) and multiple documents (Domiciliary Note and Estate Representative, etc) from the probate lawyer. He is an only child. It's hard enough to lose a parent but being alone in it and dealing with these clowns is enough to drive anyone insane.

It's a bit out of my way but now I deal with this location. Every location I've ever been to starting in DeKalb has been top notch. Employees are really friendly. I now own my own business and am dealing with 5/3 and they are far from disappointing me. I don't foresee myself ever changing banks. Do yourself a favor and use them.

So. I went in there today, to cash a check from my attorney's office. Anyway, I walk in there and the check I had was a little over 5K, and it was a check that was drawn on a fifth third account. No, I do not have an account there, so I assumed I would have to pay a fee, which I was ok with. What I was NOT ok with was the way I was treated. The teller, (an older lady with short hair and glasses) kinda eyed me funny when I even walked in the door. I told her I needed to cash the check, and gave her the check and my ID she looks at the check and asks if I have an account there and I told her no, that I was just short on time and needed to get some bills paid and wasn't sure if I was going to make it to my own bank, and since it was one of their checks, I assumed it wouldn't be a big deal. So then she goes on about asking me "Well don't you have your own bank" and all that and I was getting more and more offended by the second. That's not it the worst of it. THEN she literally picks up the phone and at first I assumed she was calling another manager because I know sometimes banks will do that for another security measure. Oh no. She literally CALLS MY ATTORNEYS OFFICE TO VERIFY THAT I WAS SUPPOSED TO HAVE THE CHECK. When she told me she wasn't getting an answer and I asked her from who and she said the law firm I told her well he's most likely in court or closed for the day as it was about 10 past 5 pm. I was way over it at that point. I had even given her the documents that came with the check along with my ID. I just told her to just give me all my stuff back and forget it. I ended up going to my bank which I was worried I wasn't going to make it in time but I was able to make it and then were able to help me because my business account is also there as well. So, just because I walked in after working in my house in sweatpants and a breast cancer hoodie of all things not all the way clean shaven like I normally am I deff felt profiled, and was completely disgusted with that place. PS-I am in fact a business owner and my normal attire is suits everyday unless clients want a more comfortable environment. Just saying.
