This is the worst experience I've ever had with a bank/credit union. Unprofessional, incompetent…read moreand non communicative (until I sent an angry email), "Smart" seems to be a misnomer for this credit union. As the power of attorney for my elderly parents (who are both living in a nursing care facility), I'm responsible for closing accounts and consolidating their assets in order to pay for their care. I went to the Kingwood branch of Smart FCU to close accounts under my father's name, and presented them with multiple IDs, notarized POA documents and all the information regarding my parents' situation. My father has Alzheimer's disease and had a stroke a few months ago, rendering him mentally and physically disabled. Even with all this information, Smart FCU's legal department said they needed a doctor's letter stating the diagnosis. This took a lot of extra effort (as I'm doing all of this long distance), but as soon as I received it from the care facility, I immediately sent it to Smart FCU to process the accounts closures. I received a generic response that I would hear back from them within 24 hours. Eight days later, still nothing, so I emailed them again to get some answers. They called me the next day and said that NOW they "can't accept the documents" to close the accounts and that they require a "handwritten letter" from my father. This is literally impossible and ridiculous! Does anyone there even know what having Alzheimer's disease AND a stroke means?! I'm still trying to get this resolved after a month has already passed, and this is causing so much undue stress and difficulties for me and my parents. I would NEVER RECOMMEND USING THIS CREDIT UNION!

I wonder if Chase has ever thought of putting a number on their atm's when their malfunctioning. Thats what they do foe signal lights! In any case, I got my cash once I went to the other lane, but there needs to be a way for Chase to allow customers to report when their atms are not working.

I tried to deposit a check from my resale shop for $246.10 and what the ATM recorded was $6,246.10. I knew this was not right so I went inside to tell them of the problem. The young woman at the front desk told me the error was due to my incorrectly entering the amount of the check which was produced by a computer rather than a handwritten check. All I entered was my PIN but she wasn't interested in that. So although the $6000 error has been eliminated the bank placed a hold on my deposit until July 26. I called BOA on July 17 and after being on hold for 20 minutes and 57 seconds finally spoke with a bank representative who told me the $6000 error was been taken care of and there should not be any further hold on the $246.10 check. She also said she would report this ATM as problematic and needed to be repaired. The hold on my check is still in place until 7/26/2023, at which time I assume the amount will finally be credited to my account. No guarantees, right? I really hate this treatment and hope that steps will be taken to make sure it doesn't happen to other customers.
