BY FAR the best place to buy crystals in the city. I started stopping in on lunch break because…read moreit's near my work. When I got into crystals I figured there'd be better places than this hole in the wall in the heart of midtown but after going to many shops in the city I can say hands down this is the BEST. The quality and size of crystals you can find for very reasonable prices is unmatched. You can find large, palm-sized stones for $5-$15 - even the $5 ones are quite large compared to most places. In the back they have bins of pocket sized stones for $1.50 - but even these can be larger than you'd expect. I've found black tourmaline, pyrite, aquamarine, and many others back there. When compared to the sizes offered for this price at other places it's an incredible deal. I commented on this to the woman who works there and she told me the place is a non-profit. It's near my work so I pop in often and am pleasantly surprised to see new crystals in stock regularly. The vibe there seems a bit stuck in time - this is what new age was before it became fashionable. However the heart of this place and great selection keep me coming back.

I stoped in here being new to the world of meditation and crystals and personal power…read more The lady behind the counter was excellent at give it me insight and answered my questions. I felt very comfortable. I'm looking forward to making a return visit. The prices for merchandise looked very reasonable as well.

On an annual trip to NYC, I decided I would visit bookstores and take in all I could. B&B was right…read moreby my hotel, and I was delighted to find a comfortable room full of baseball memorabilia and a great variety. They specialize in 19th and 20th century English and American literature, which means you're going to see a lot of titles you're familiar with. I stopped in late in their day, so I wasn't surprised to be the only one there, but the team gave me space, answered very basic questions I had, and - gasp - LET ME TOUCH THE BOOKS. This is far from a stuffy environment, and when I finally convince my partner that I need that very expensive piece that has F. Scott Fitzgerald's music for Princeton, I know exactly where I'll go.

5 minutes before B&B books was closing, I buzzed the room located on the third floor to see if they…read morewould let me in "just to look." Well, 45 minutes later, I was still oohing and awing at the marvelous selection of first edition books they have to offer. This is the largest selection (aside from corporate-owned Bauman's) of rare books I've seen that include the dust jacket- a collectors actual dream. It's the biggest breath of fresh air to find a rare book store owned by a woman, and to be treated like a human being. I normally get side-eyed from rare bookstore owners and some of the conversations I've had sound like: "May I see the Portrait of a Lady in the case?" "All of these books are at least $100.00 and up." ".....I know." "Do you have any Wilde?" "The book about the woman hiking alone? That's too new to be in our shop, Barnes & Noble would have it." "I'm talking about the 1800s poet." "Oh." I take it personally because while I look like a millennial who doesn't know what she's talking about, I treasure my rare books like they're my children. Sunday stayed AN EXTRA HOUR at her store while I looked and answered all of my questions that I had, never making me feel rushed or unwelcome. After selecting a first edition Fitzgerald, she wrapped it in bubble wrap for my travels back home and gave me an updated book with all of the rare book sellers in the country.

Majority of the books are in English and they have some from Palestine. Very intriguing place for books lovers. One thing I was surprised by is how cheap these books are. The books prices range from $900 to $500,000 which is very cheap for a rare book. You are looking at quality books that nobody else has. Customer service is excellent and I was able to ask some questions. I was able to get their catalogue so hopefully will be ordering one of the rare books soon.

As I immersed myself in this captivating realm, I lost track of time as its showcase, elegance, and charm enveloped me into a sense of comfort. Nestled discreetly on Madison Avenue in the 50s, this rare bookstore is captures bibliophiles and history enthusiasts alike, as features first editions of Grimm's Fairy Tales, and "The Bishops Bible" along with the The Complete Works of Abraham Lincoln. The woman at the front desk was very friendly and quickly helped direct me to what I was looking for. While many of these books are on sale for thousands of dollars, the chance to glance at several rarities in person is a awe-inspiring experience. I cannot shake my enthusiasm for returning to Bauman for further exploration. This rare book store is truly a hidden gem and I encourage others to come here to appreciate some of the world's greatest works. :)
