The American health care system is whack. I had to pay the surgeon, the surgery center, the anesthesiologist and I signed a release that if they had to leave dissolving sutures in the surgical site, I've have to pay them too. But that's my editorial and none of it is Charlotte Surgery Center's fault. Today, we're reviewing the Charlotte Surgery Center Museum Campus. Lots of communication from them (not as much from the surgeon) with pre-op instructions, post-op instructions, screening questions, scheduling, payments, and confirmations. My wife and I arrived for our 5:15 am at 4:55 am (the Lyft ride was early) and they don't open the doors until 5:00 am. A brief wait outside before the initial gatekeeper brought us inside. A comfortable waiting area with wifi and free coffee and some paid vending machines. No eating or drinking for me, but I got my wife a cup of coffee while she hung out waiting for me. I saw a LOT of people today to justify the estimated $13,000 bill for today's procedure. I was called over to the registration nurse who discussed payment (hooray for insurance!). Screening nurse who brought me back to the pre-op waiting area. Prep nurse who got me my gown, warm blankets and set the IV. Anesthesiologist nurse. The anesthesiologist herself. The operating room nurse. The surgeon who marked the spot where the excision was taking place and confirmed it with me (no easy mistakes to be made today!). All of this took about two hours before I was finally wheeled back into the operating room. The anesthesiologist stuck some Versed into the IV and I didn't even get to count backwards from ten. I saw her put the drugs into the IV and then I woke up in the recovery room. Perfect! I don't like the mushy part in the middle and these drugs were like a "skip" button on the DVR of my brain. I do not remember a darned thing! And if you're worried about me, please don't. This was minor outpatient surgery that took a half hour. I had my first cataract surgery there and 3 weeks later when my 2nd was scheduled, they cancelled less than 24 hours prior, because as of Dec 1st, they will no longer provide anesthesia services for cataract surgery. Something they apparently couldn't explain 3 weeks prior? Patient centric care is minimal, post op care consisted of "see your papers the dr office gave you" pre op care questioned my allergies and apparently had no idea until 5 minutes before surgery that I had allergies to some of their medications and didn't quite know what to do about it. Ultimately I used Southpark surgery for my 2nd surgery and there was no comparison. If you have a choice with insurance, go there. If you can switch because you've met your out of pocket, switch for your 2nd eye. 2 stars because of the pre op nurses and my surgery was successful. Only positives I can say. read more

My surgery was canceled because a nurse there did not take my height correct. When I asked to have it done again she refused. So I made an appointment with my surgeon and primary care doctor to get my height taken and that nurse was almost two inches off. So My surgery should never been canceled. Also, according to Ortho Carolina this has happened to many patients. Admin needs to look at their data and hire competent staff. read more

My medical experience with surgery was excellent. All the medical professionals cared for me well. But the facility overcharged me by $1600. Of course I didn't realize it until I received the EOB from my insurance and learned what they paid. Charlotte Surgery Center will not return calls or respond to my email requesting a refund. I had a surgery with a provider from OrthoCarolina following a broken foot & should preface by saying the healthcare staff was amazing and I don't have any complaints as far as the nurses, surgeon, and techs go. However, their billing and administrative department is the worst I've ever experienced. I had a feeling going into the surgery that I would probably be dealing with this later on even 8 months post op after having maxed out my insurance' out of pocket max back in 2024 (which I of course have receipts for.) They calculated my payment on a sticky note and I had to personally request a receipt for my payment. I highly HIGHLY recommend covering your bases and AVOIDING this surgery center if at all possible. Even if it means ditching your surgeon or provider. No one who is in need of healthcare/a procedure of any kind should feel like they can't trust the facility they are going to when their health and finances are being put at risk. I checked the address to ensure my review is for the 2825 Randolph Road facility because the low ratings make no sense to me. My experience at Charlotte Surgery Museum was incredible. If the medical industry makes you feel like a dollar sign and not a patient, this clinic will change your mind. Everyone we encountered was a health care provider, from the lovely Jasmine who checked me in to the clinic manager who checked on me (and when I say checked I mean stayed with me, asked after me, held my hand) in pre-op AND in post-op. I felt like I was the only patient on the premises and I really knew that wasn't t the case. The surgical staff were both professional and human - oh, and funny - and I could tell they genuinely cared about me and my well-being. My husband even said he thought I must have known some of them from my doctor's office but I said no, only my doctor. :) The rest were just that cool. Special shout-outs to Diana, who started an IV with no more pain than having blood drawn (I am still in awe), and Dr. Halway, my remarkable anesthesiologist, whose company in pre-op was charming and informative. But if you were on my surgical team, know that I appreciated each of you. I might have forgotten your names because Dr. Halway managed to make me forget ever getting to and leaving the OR. :) Love these people. I had cataract surgery at the Charlotte Surgery Center at 2825 Randolph Road(Museum) on 6-5-24. All the folks there are wonderful! Very caring and very professional. I had an orthopedic surgery yesterday and everyone at Charlotte Surgery Center Museum was professional and attentive and compassionate. The spaces themselves were clean and attractive. My only complaint is that I told everyone, and it was recorded, that I am allergic to NSAIDs but was prescribed Meloxicam (an NSAID). It should be in someone's job description, either at the surgical center or in the doctor's office, that when they fax or call in a prescription to a pharmacy, they check the patient's records to make sure they are not allergic to it. Thankfully, I read about unfamiliar medications to double check. In this case, I must have been the only person to check. read more

My knee replacement at Charlotte Surgery Center Wendover Campus was amazing. The facility is clean and modern. As soon as I checked in I was impressed with the staff. The nurses, surgeon, and anesthesiologist were all exceptional. All my questions were answered in a calm, relaxed dialogue, never feeling rushed. My left knee replacement was perfect. I was given information and equipment to help with recovery at home. I'll be getting my right knee replacement soon. It will definitely be at Charlotte Surgery Center! read more

I rarely write reviews but every aspect of my experience was outstanding. Tabitha and Jaelin(?) helped me schedule and get an estimate for my gallbladder surgery as well as address concerns I had based on negative reviews. As with most procedures, you can expect the facility, the surgeon, and the anesthesiologist to bill you separately. In order to avoid overpaying, Jaelin calculated the surgeon fee anticipating my deductible would be met once the facility submitted their charges. Once inside, all patients and family members were masked and socially distanced. Within 10 minutes of arrival I was back in pre-op where the nurses, Ann & Christi, walked me through the process. They were genuinely compassionate and put me at ease. Next, Dr. Webster and the anesthesiologist David Kovach(?) confirmed the procedure, told me what to expect, and off I went. I woke up in post op feeling pretty good and a short time later I was on my way home. I followed their post op instructions and experienced only mild discomfort for a few days. My son's hand surgery was performed at this facility and I will say that I was pleased with the entire process. They initially called to schedule a day and time for the procedure and supplied me with all the information needed prior to and on the day of. There was lots of construction going on at this facility, they seemed to have lots of parking across the street but still offered valet. The waiting area filled up very quickly after we checked in but everything went very quickly after that. They assign a number to the patient at check in and you're able to track the progress of that number on a monitor on the wall throughout the process which I thought was pretty cool. Their up front financial requirements are totally unreasonable - requiring large upfront payments before insurance claims are even filed. I rescheduled my surgery at another location. If this is how they treat people before they have their business I can only imagine how difficult they are to deal with afterwards. You have choices! Take your business elsewhere. Do not use this center if you can help it, especially if it is for your child. They rushed me and my two year old son out of post op with ZERO help. He was coming out of anesthesia and we were unable to get him in the car. My husband brought him back in to the center to ask for help and they sat him in a chair by the door while my son continued to scream/thrash/bite, be a danger. We tried again to get him in the car. A nurse came out to the PARKING LOT to try and restrain our son since he was going to hurt himself. Bottom line, they pushed us out and did not help us at all. He should have been cared for in the unit. It was extremely traumatizing. DO NOT GO HERE. read more

Amazing group of people. I arrived about 5 minutes early, they immediately checked me in, a few minutes later a nurse confirmed some information in my files, a few minutes later another nurse took me into the pre-op area. All of the people that I dealt with were attentive, professional and congenial. In less than an hour, I was wheeled off to the operating room. The next thing I knew, I was awakening. The surgeon had already debriefed with my wife and the post-op nurse went over some things with the two of us and we were on our way. An amazingly good experience; I highly recommend them. read more

This chop shop is criminal. They called me 3 times in one day from a no caller ID phone to demand payment in full up front for a surgery that OrthoCarolina said I needed badly. In the north, it is illegal to deny medical care due to not paying ahead. All billing is done on the back end after insurance takes it. This place is morally and ethically bankrupt. read more

Overcharged and serious billing issues. Please ask about the accuracy of your bill! I was overcharged by the facility and the anesthesiologist. My surgeon informed me of the issue. Charlotte Surgery Center never mentioned it. This seems like a common practice. Not only did they try and get away with overcharging me but it took more than 6 months to get a refund. Would never go here again and very much regret that we did not select another facility (Wendover was THE worse, would not go to Museum/Randolph either - same doctor owners, same private equity investment company). Look at the list of owners: they are the doctors treating you, is this not a conflict of interest? Poor pre-surgery screening (requested, only cared about financial info, not health), no promised communication during surgery (the board in the waiting room is useless when it rarely changes status), and poor quality, rushed, we don't care "call 911 if any problems", discharge nurses/process. Our 100% healthy family member, who received ortho surgery for an injury, ended up in the hospital that day directly related to their poor quality, mistakes. I wish we were the lawsuit type, everyone in the ER/hospital said "they surely messed up, I would not go there". All about rushing and profits, not a bit about quality care. read more

I want to leave this review since I feel like I have to. I don't want other people to have a similar experience with Charlotte Surgery Center. Knowing that I have never left a review before, I hope this emphasizes how highly dissatisfied I am. For those of you who don't have the time to read my entire review, here's my advice: don't go there for your surgical needs. It's important to note, first off, that this review's intention is to reflect on the professionalism of the facility and not on the outcome of the situation. My surgery was scheduled on Monday, 8/31/2020. Obviously, we are in a global pandemic and the necessary precautions are taken. Totally fine, I understand and I'm glad that my safety, the safety of other patients and the safety of all the staff is taken into account. A Covid testing was scheduled the week before, on Wednesday 8/26/2020, at the surgery center. I took the test and was being told that if I don't hear anything back before Monday, the result is negative and I can come in for the surgery. Luckily I didn't hear back, I'm feeling totally fine, wear a mask when going out and I keep my social distance, so I would have been very surprised if the test came back positive. After the test, I got an information sheet mentioning self-quarantining myself until the surgery and that is what I did as well. On the day of the surgery, during the check in, my temperature was taken: 98.3. No problems there so good to go. Once taken back for the preop, we went over all paperwork, I got changed and got my IV as well. As a last step, my temperature was taken again and now it turned out that it was too high. This is not what I was being told at first however. I could tell by the way the nurse was behaving, that something was off. I was laying on my bed facing the nurse station and could see that the nurse that took my temperature did go show the other nurses what she saw. They asked her who's temperature she took and I got several looks and whispers-obviously I was the topic of conversation and they didn't know how to proceed. I think this was highly unprofessional. I'm aware that we are in a global pandemic and I would be the last person to come in if I didn't feel well. I don't want to put anyone at risk. Just getting all these looks was it for me. All those other nurses were not at all involved in preparing me for the surgery. The nurse came back and asked me, quite abrasively, what my temperature was while checking in. I told her 98.3. My temperature was taken 2 more times. During all this, I noted the nurses talking and I could tell they were talking about me. At some point I heard the 2 nurses that were taking care of me that everything was ready to get the anesthesia. However, a couple of minutes later, the team lead came and told me that I was going to be discharged. My temperature was too high (100.9-101.0) and I was considered a positive patient now. While 25 minutes ago, my temperature was still 98.3 and I did a covid test with them that turned out to be fine! So I got a fever in those 25 minutes. This makes me questioning the accuracy of their equipment. And we are only talking about a thermometer here. All this time, my girlfriend was sitting in the waiting room. She told me afterwards that one of the nurses came out to the waiting room and said my name aloud, in a tone loud enough for the entire waiting room the hear, what my temparture was during the checking in. This is a direct violation of my HIPAA rights. Again, I think this is highly unprofessional, the privacy of the patients is certainly not taken into account there. My girlfriend stepped in and confirmed again the 98.3. I'm highly unsatisfied with the way I have been treated and I will never go there again. If you are looking for a decent location to get your surgery done, look further. I will never recommend this place to anyone. read more

My child had closed fracture arm surgery by OrthoCarolina's Dr. Christian Clark at this facility. There was an 8 day wait for surgery and later problems ( -5 pronation, subluxation & almost 100% synostosis). I don't know whether the long wait was due to the Dr's schedule or surgery center's schedule, as a physician's assistant set up the surgery date. The parking is sufficient and safe, seating is adequate, television, magazines and coffee are provided. The bathroom is clean & a staff member is at a desk for questions. The waiting room gets crowded, but everyone is quiet & respectful of each other. Best of luck to others here. Unfortunately, my child has now had consultations far & wide to see if there is a way to correct problems. In retrospect, I wish that we had called a NC university hospital and gotten a quick "pediatric upper extremity specialist" to do immediate surgery. I had asked about Levine's Children's Hospital, but a Levine's Urgent Care sent us to OrthoCarolina. My understanding now is that it can be problematic to wait when children are growing fast. I've taken two adults to this surgical center, and their outcomes were perfect though. If others have problems, ProPublica Patient Safety is a good Facebook site for questions.
