Absolutely Atrocious!! This place needs to be burnt to the ground!!!! A relative of mine was in there for only 24 hours. He was given slop! You don't even have the option to pick your own food. He was given a hot dog, 1 piece of broccoli, teaspoon of potatoes and he is a diabetic. He also never received his breakfast or lunch. Me and his mother both called and complained. Was given wrong medication. He was afraid to even take a poop. He just recently became an amputee. Disgusting all around. I wouldn't even take my dog there!!! read more

I'm originally from the Huntingdon Valley facility. The big positive is the nursing staff and the CNAs. The other staff members are competent. The only negative would be the kitchen. I had to go out early and would have missed lunch. I called to see if I could get an early lunch. when I called, they yelled at me saying that they were busy. I didn't get an early lunch. I'm a Diabetic. My low sugar alarm went off. I called the kitchen to get some orange juice. I was told that they would put it on my lunch tray. Lunch was an hour and a half away. Absolutely horrible! This will be a long review which I hope you read because I wish I read the reviews before I allowed my father to go here. I have NEVER had a worse experience with health care EVER! They have more one stars reviews than anything else. I wish I would have checked. If you care about your family member DO NOT send them here. My father was sent here by the VA after having an emergency amputation of his toes. At first everyone seems real nice, no one was ever rude here. But I guess they use kindness to make up for absolute incompetence! You will NEVER get an update, you will never even get a nurse to pick up the phone for that matter. When I did get someone on the phone they never knew what was going on with my father. I finally get in touch with a supervisor who assured me I could call her for all future updates and when I call next she suddenly doesn't work there anymore. The front desk assured me someone else was put in her place that can help me and proceeded to transfer me to someone who tells me "I have been off for two weeks and have no idea what's going on with him" When I tell this person I NEED an update and treatment plan for him and someone needs to call me back. Guess what?? I'm sure you can guess at this point, NO Call back!! Even the VA who was footing the bill couldn't get them on the phone. They would call me for updates, which I didn't have. They would not let me see father either so not having anyone I could speak to was very distressing. They would not let me in because he contracted COVID while in their care. But I honestly believe they did not allow me In because I started asking too many questions. They last time I was allowed to see my father I found him injured with blood on the floor. No one had any explanation as to what happened and I don't understand why the blood was never cleaned up. I wanted to try to be understanding and not make a fuss while he was there but after 10'days of not being able to see my father or even get an update on him I finally made a complaint to the VA. This happened to be the same day he was sent to the VA for an appointment. The VA needed to keep him a day for for scans. When he is finally ready to be released I am called by the VA and told he is not allowed to go back to chapel manor. That they said his contract is on hold! I am now left with zero time to find care for my father. This is Saturday afternoon. The supervisor did call my Friday morning saying she had an "update" which I was thrilled about because NO ONE EVER called me with an update and I was under the impression that my complaint to the VA had finally prompted someone to return my calls. I called her back on my lunch break but she never called me again after. I know they will respond to the message with some excuse like COVID concerns (but why would they let him go to his appointment in the first place if you knew you could not let him back ) or that he is a difficult patient (he's an old man who is cranky because he suddenly lost the ability to walk, but he is not abusive to anyone so that's not an excuse either) the real reason is that I started sticking up for my fathers care. I started making problems for them and their incompetence and they didn't like it and kicked him out on his butt with no care as to what would happen. Honestly, how can they let him go to an appointment and then refuse to let him back with NO notice. I will be making a formal complaint against them and I will be making complaints to anyone that will listen to me including my congressman as I know they get state funding. If you have made it this far please save yourself the anxiety and grief of dealing with this place!! They have been nothing but an absolute nightmare and if you try to complain or make things right they will just throw your family member out on their rear with no notice! My father is due to be released from the VA tomorrow on a Sunday. Very convenient as the director is not available over the weekend. read more

My grandmother was brought here from the hospital for rehab for a fracture due to a fall. She also had several underlying conditions that were worrisome and required close attention. She was not even at this facility for 24 hours before I demanded she be taken to an ER because of the state I found her in the following day. Per a staff member, they attempted to get the doctor at the facility to call 911 as well and was told to cancel said 911 call. My mother spoke with a physician only 2 hours prior to her being taken to the ER and was not disclosed any information about the horrendous condition my loved one was in which had been the entire day per the staff member I spoke with. I would never recommend this facility and I am absolutely beside myself that these events occurred and they were attempting to brush them under the rug. read more

This place is horrible, I don't recommend anyone to send their family there .My mother was there and needed 24/7 care . My father in law was admitted to Chapel Manor on March 6th. First night there was horrendous. We witness a resident in a hospital gown, back exposed with adult diaper pulled down below her buttocks nonchalantly drinking a cup of water in front of the nurse's station. And the nurses didn't say anything to her to cover up. Second day, I came back to visit my father in law and they served him a hot dog with beans (REMIND YOU HE JUST HAD A DOUBLE BYPASS 3 WEEKS PRIOR) and has heart failure and they serve him a microwaved hotdog with canned baked beans. They also gave him a brownie as if he isn't a diabetic!! Fast forward to March 11th, they shut down access to visitors due to covid and we were informed March 16th, a staff member tested positive for COVID. He was due to be isolated with no physical therapy and nothing to do at all while he laid helpless. He had a roommate who would wander the hallways after every one was being told they need to isolate in their rooms due to the possible COVID infection due to staff members being positive but residents didn't adhere. Well on April 9th, my father in law was due to come home and in preparation, I called and spoke with the Nurse Manager and requested they tested/evaluate him once more before he comes home to my and the kids knowing COVID was just in the heat of things. I mentioned he complained about breathing and fevers and they said it was because of his double bypass and they are preexisting conditions and NOT related to COVID. He came one April 9th and suffered his 2nd heart attack at home with us and was rushed back to Temple Hospital. On April 10th, while at temple, he was getting prepped for his ICD Surgery and sure enough we get a call from Temple to inform us that HE WAS POSITIVE for COVID and will not be able to get his surgery done so instead, he was sent to the Boyer Building for isolation. When I informed Chapel Manor, they were speechless trying to defend their decision after I made it clear I have two kids in the house and my husband works outside of the home and we can't risk it! They honestly couldn't respond. Well today, (5/21/2020) on the Inquirer, PA announced all nursing home facilities and the COVID stats, Chapel Manor is claiming 123 Residents are infected, ZERO Staff were infected which is a lie since they informed us they had to send the positive COVID staff and suspecting staff home and now 23 Deaths!!! How dare you lie about the health and well being of humans when you are meant to protect the health and well being of humans!! you should be ashamed of yourself! read more

My father was sent here after being in recovery for a hemorrhagic stroke to continue his long term care and rehabilitation. The building was locked down due to COVID-19 restrictions, so I had virtually zero access to a non-verbal patient with only partial use of one hand. Communication for him was incredibly difficult at the time and lack of hand function made it extremely difficult for him to use a phone. When I was actually able to get a hold of him, he would just cry and tell me (the best he could) how awful it was. Through yes/no questions, he told me the food was horrible; because of his speech being affected he was an aspiration hazard, so all they provided to eat was soup and protein shakes, even though during his hospital stay he got a chopped, soft diet. He was prescribed a program of physical therapy, speech therapy and occupational therapy, 6 days a week for about an hour each. However, he told me (again through a lot of yes/no questions) that he did that for about a week and a half and then he was only getting physical therapy a couple times a week. I would call and call and call and leave message after message for social services, the activities department, the nurses, anyone who would listen to me. Again, impossible to get ANYONE on the phone. I would leave several messages before his social worker would get back to me, two, three days. While I appreciate the difficulty of operating a medical facility during a quarantine lockdown, this is the time when a stroke patient would recover the most function they can muster, immediately following the stroke. For them to do that for a week and then basically just ignore him after that is repugnant. He's currently at a different place (Hopkins Center, which has been a gigantic improvement) but his recovery has basically plateaued at this point and its hard to think that the lack of effort and communication to actually help my father during his time at Chapel Manor had something to do with that. I called to report the situation to L&I and the health department, but still have not heard anything regarding the case. Chapel Manor is terrible at open, honest, and reasonable communication and lacks sufficient leadership, management and caring staff. Questionable if they even have enough staff to provide care for the amount of beds they have. I wouldn't let these people watch my dog, let alone provide basic care for a physically impaired patient. I would give this one star if it wasn't for the business manager Kristine who helped facilitate his disability paperwork and my power of attorney. She was a pleasure to work with. read more
