I've always found Chancery Square to be a bit of a contradiction in terms. For sure it's got the lovely European cobbled pedestrian street vibe thing down, but it's the exception rather than the rule in this part of Auckland. It looks inward while the surrounding streets are shitty and unloved, largely down to the vast monolithic car park built to serve Chancery's clientele. I just feel like a nice "street" environment should be in actual streets, not cordoned off from them. It feels almost like manufactured urbanism - it's inward looking and it's almost too perfect. In saying all that, I do spend a fair bit of time here, mostly because there are multiple spots here to get a sheesha. For that, there aint a better place to come in Auckland - I can just sit out in the courtyard with mates with a sheesha under the fairy lights, and forget how much I hate the place! read more
