The first time I sent them a text 20 minutes after they were expected to arrive. They replied "We ain't going to be able to make it." No apologies, no phone calls. My wife drove 3-1/2 hours to get to the property and meet with them, arriving with our guests and 2 dogs 2 hours ahead of the agreed meeting time. Again, they failed to show up or call to say they weren't coming. After waiting for 45 minutes we tried to call to see if they were coming but couldn't connect as their phone wasn't 'set up' and couldn't accept calls or voicemail!!! I sent them a text to try to find out what the story was. They replied and said they came and nobody was home, further clarified that they aren't interested in any job under$3500, having no idea the scope of my project! There were 2 cars, 4 adults and 2 dogs at the house. They could not have been missed if in fact they came. Further, even if they had come and thought nobody was there why didn't they simply call? They had my phone number. Also, there was no sign of them on any of the security cameras. Bottom line: this contractor is clearly unreliable, and dishonest. Perhaps a scam? Beware!

WARNING....WARNING....WARNING.... I hired Kennison…read moreConstruction LLC (Matthew Kennison) for a downstairs renovation in Stowe, VT and paid $32,500 in deposits. The project was left incomplete, with major items not finished, including windows, bathroom plumbing/rough-in, baseboard heat, interior doors, and finish work. As of the date of this review, he has failed to refund any portion of the unearned funds and now has a pending lawsuit. Work was inconsistent, with extended periods where no one was on site. Communication was even worse. There were days/weeks that went by with no communication. I provided multiple written notices and opportunities to resolve the issues, but the project was not completed. I have since had to fire this company and hire someone else to complete the project. The quality of some of the work that was completed was poor and required correction, by my new contractors. I was also threatened with a lein from a dumpster company he failed to pay. This was additional money out of my pocket. I can provide a lot more examples of my poor experience, but my advice is no matter what the estimate/cost this company provides, DO NOT HIRE! It's not worth it.

They confirmed our shower was not waterproofed, the plumbing was done incorrectly and would have failed, and the electric work was incorrect and sloppy. I'm SO GLAD I fired them when I did - they could have cost us a lot more than $10k in damages if this job finished.

He was interested and knowledgeable about making environmentally healthy choices, and using local suppliers, but is flexible and not dogmatic. He always explains his ideas. He knows people, places, materials, shops, suppliers, contacts in all the related fields of house building and renovations. We asked for and got suggestions from him for stone counters (VT Stone Arts), radiators (Myson), local clapboards (Ward Mill in ME), electrical code information about a vent that someone else was installing, insulation, lead paint removers, flooring, etc, etc, etc. He's an incredible resource and consultant. There's a really good character vibe about Sam. He was gracious to all of our other subcontractors. He has great relations with his past customers - he put us in contact with a previous customer so we could go and see their kitchen, and later sent a prospective customer to look at ours. He is extremely responsive by phone and email. He sends plans by mail, as well. Sam has great personal integrity - he is a straight-shooter, genuine; the money aspects are always clear, and he does what he says he'll do when he promised it. He gives honest answers to your questions - doesn't try to talk you into things, and doesn't have a show-off-y attitude. It was a pleasure for us from start to finish working with Sam Clark.
