It's much more than just a normal convenience store. Hot food is outstanding for an in-store deli and I understand there's a reputation for that at this location. I have only had one cold sandwich and it was great as well. Beer and coffee selection is mind-blowing for a small town convenience store! Something for everyone. I'm not a beer or coffee snob but I really appreciate a wide selection. Most of all, I must say the employees are all very nice and will go out of their way for you. I can't count the number of times they have made my day. It seems they are always working very hard and asking what customers need-- I had a lady offer to make me whatever I wanted at the deli, where I had thought the only choices were premise.

You can't call these folks on the phone for a simple price quote without getting dissed because they have a "line" waiting, which could simply have been a, "I've got people waiting, could I put you on hold or could you call back in 30?" But instead was a mocking statement that implied he (Stowe Bev) could easily do without my business and that answering me politely simply wasn't worth the several seconds it would take to do. Never mind the argument the staff person posed when "correcting" me as to how long it takes me to drive from my house in Waterbury to the store front (30 minutes, but he corrected me, assumedly knowing better than I do where I live, and said, "It only takes 15 minutes to get here from Waterbury . . . . ." which is patently incorrect, even if you have no traffic and break all the speed limits. Rude. Dismissive. Imperious (in the extreme). Short sighted (when the tourist business dries up, as it does from time to time (economy, pandemics, shortages), you'll be looking to the locals to keep you afloat. We had finished our morning tour ($3 per person) which earned you a big scoop of ice cream (basically you paid for it in the admission). Anyway, we were back on the road and needed a little savory lunch. We stopped by this deli mart and discovered some tasty subs. Bf got some massive 8" or 10" Italian sub, loaded with everything - 3 types of meats, peppers, onions, dressing, mustard, mayo, lettuce, tomato, the works. I had a bite or 2 and it was pretty good. I opted for the Wednesday ($2.99) special. Same multi-hand required sub but I had the Thanksgiving Special - roasted turkey, stuffing, cranberry, lettuce, tomato, and some other condiments. It hit the spot. And it was uber fresh. The sub assembler was a humorless sort of hairy man, but he knew his stuff. A true master sub builder - quick, adept, no waste of motion. Good stuff.

What a gem of a place - great ready to eat food, specialty grocery items, AND big smiles. Wednesday - pot pie day!
