Champ de Mars is a vast green space located between the Eiffle Tower & the École Militaire. If romanticizing your life is your thing, a picnic on the grass with a glorious view of the Iron Lady should be on your to-do list. Benches dot the perimeter if sitting on grass sounds like a nightmare (it would be if I didn't have my trusty travel blanket with me.) The dirt areas combined with no colorful flowers in bloom make the park feel somewhat drab. Some nuisances to contend with: bees (so many bees) & aggressive peddlers of everything from alcohol to cheap souvenirs. Though there are far prettier parks in Paris, having the iconic structure seemingly within reach is the draw here. Check it out once; it is worth being on your Paris itinerary, especially if it's your first time here. read more

Champ de Mars is a lovely green space just outside the Eiffel Tower great for taking photos, picnicking or enjoying the view. Unfortunately becomes very overridden by souvenir salesmen and photographers who won't easily take no for an answer. Additionally a large part of the SE end is under construction as of May 2025, taking away from some of the parks iconic and relaxing feel. read more

Very large park in front of the Eiffel Tower, giving plenty of space to get iconic looks (and pictures) of the Tower. There are both grassy and dirt areas through out the park. One can take the Metro and get off at Ecole Militaire, for a quick 10 minute walk to the park. Definitely recommend stopping here for pictures, if you don't have to actually go inside the tower. read more

This park is bare and a bit creepy. It looks like a popular hangout spot for homeless people and scam artists hawking Eiffel Tower replicas for inconsistent prices. (Just hit em with a firm "Non!" and they'll back off). There is very little present in terms of attractive foliage here, and this is hardly the place I would envision going for a romantic Parisian stroll; just the opposite, actually. There are a significant number of areas in the park that are blocked off with wire. Hopefully those are areas containing seedlings and other soon-to-be plants, because the place is in desperate need of a bit of colour. The only redeeming quality is that you can get some really great shots of the Eiffel Tower, as well as yourself in front of it, from this park. So take advantage; just watch your camera and your valuables. read more

The area was going through some pretty heavy construction while I was visiting so I know I did not get the full effect of how gorgeous this place must be. I still thought it was beautiful and grand. Lots of picnics happening all around, very well trimmed trees, and loads of nice grass. Definitely a must see! Especially if this is your first time seeing the Eiffel Tower (Like me!! Ou la la The Champ de Mars is a large public greenspace in Paris, France, located in the seventh arrondissement, between the Eiffel Tower to the northwest and the École Militaire to the southeast. The French military used to run drills here which is pretty neat. One of my favourite spots to just kick it with a blanket in the grass or one of the many benches with a nice glass of red wine. The space is gigantic and packed with tourist so try to stay away on weekends if you're not in to bumping in to people. I went Friday and i would consider it peak season (mid June) and there was a lot of people but still managed to get my self a great spot on a bench away from the crowd. Yes there is people trying to sell you things but it's normal and they are harmless. read more

Personally I feel there's nothing to it really. Just a narrow field leading you to the Eiffel tower which personally I think it's way overrated. Le Champ-de-Mars is a gorgeous public park in Paris that overlooks the Eiffel Tower. The park is named after the Campus Martius, a tribute to the Roman god of war. The park isn't huge, but it does offer gorgeous views of the Eiffel Tower and is a quiet spot to enjoy a good book or have a romantic picnic. My advice would be to walk down Rue Cler and grab all of the essentials for a picnic in the park. Bring your baguette, cheese, charcuterie and wine into the park and find a shady tree to relax under while you dine and enjoy a breathtaking view of the Eiffel Tower. If picnicking in the park isn't your cup of tea at the very least bring your camera to this park for some unforgettable photos! read more

Very beautiful park that has a great view directly of the Eiffel Tower. Sadly the grass area was all closed off for some reason so couldn't sit on the grass and enjoy a nice picnic with some wine. Went there early in the morning in order to beat the crowds and it worked. It's also a good area to do some runs or just walk around the vast area. read more

One of my favorite spots in Paris! What a wonderful place to have a sunset picnic with the Eiffel Tower in the background. You can bring food, wine, and other munchies and hang out with hundreds of strangers. Awesome place to people watch and have a nice night. Go before sunset so you can get a good spot. It gets packed! People are pretty friendly and will help take pictures, but still be careful and alert of the gypsies and creepers. read more

Great place for a picnic, people watching, and an epic view of the Eiffel Tower. And if you forgot to bring booze, there are plenty of friendly illegal immigrants coming by to sell you beer and wine. I just wish the filthy Parisians would do society a favor by NOT littering all over the place...bottle caps, food wrappers, and thousands of cigarette buttes litter all over the grass. read more

Somehow my friend and I always ended up at the Champ de Mars while walking around the Eiffel Tower and it was not that impressive. Just a bunch of people relaxing on blankets under trees while people peddled their wares nearby. I could see this being a great place to have a small picnic after seeing the sights nearby, but it is in no way shape or form a "must see" for a trip to Paris. read more

If you going to see Tour Eiffel, don't go through the Pont D'elena, filled with endless tour busses and masses of the tourists. Instead, walk Champ de Mars from École Militaire side. The views, in their classical symmetry, and Tour Eiffel as end focal point are unforgettable. You can lounge on those manicured green lawns as well, and enjoy all-around impressive panorama. Despite it dark past, Champ de Mars are forever interconnected with Eiffel Tower, and are beautiful. Stop by, and don't rush trough. read more

This is the park that sits towards the SE of the eiffel tower. It's a wonderful area to take pictures of the WHOLE tower, however, the only thing that is annoying is that there is a bunch of local people trying to sell you souvenirs. In reality, what they are selling is a solid deal. It's about 1 euro for a souvenir vs 8 euros once inside the gift shops. They are just very persistent. read more

This is a beautiful park leading up to the eiffel tower. My girl and I walked through here several times and in the late morning some parts of it were nearly abandoned and so picturesque. I would definitely make sure to detour here for a nice stroll with your loved ones. read more

The champ de mars is the park where the eiffel tower is located and I went there plenty of times with friends for picnics or parties at night. First, this is a great place to meet people at night, or just enjoy some nice cheese and wine for your lunch or dinner. There is plenty of room to sit, and there are plenty of police officers patrolling the area, which makes it a very nice and safe environment. Please note that the Police might take your alcohol away from you at night if you are part of a big group and if you are acting obviously drunk and "disturbing the peace". Another nice thing is that there are a ton of vendors walking around, which means that you will be able to buy overpriced wine and food if you run out at some point. One of the best things if you come at night, is that you will be seating right in front of the Eiffel Tower, which means that you will be in the front row when it will start glowing, every hour from 9pm. Overall, my experience with the Champ de Mars was very positive and I would recommend it, particularly if you are just visiting Paris. During my first trip to Paris my friends and I stopped at a supermarket and bought baguettes,cheese, grapes,wine and other snacks and sat on the grass with our picnic to watch the sunset and the eiffel tower twinkle. I visited this garden in April 2016. Overall, tons of people out and about. This is a great place to bring a blanket, picnic basket, and sit under a tree to snack and enjoy the view. It is apparently appropriate/encouraged to bring a bottle of wine or champagne (everyone is doing it). Lots of children playing games, dogs on and off leashes, and business people taking their lunch stroll. If you're american, don't feel out of place because this is what EVERYONE will be doing. Be aware of people trying to sell anything and everything from selfie sticks to mini Eiffel Towers. Some will even sell wine & champagne. Wish I could be back!! read more

Picnic under the Eiffel Tower? Sounds good to me. We packed a back pack full of cheese, baguettes, saucisson, hummus, veggies, and wine (of course), and headed to this grassy knoll. It sits between the Eiffel Tower and the military school. It was sprinkled with people on blankets, drinking, smoking, making out, playing guitar, and generally hanging out. We showed up just before dusk and were delighted when the tower slowly illuminated, then sparkled for a few minutes. It was gorgeous! We sat under the tower's glow for a long time, enjoying our meal, and the view. Incroyable! read more

The Eiffel Tower was gorgeous. The park was much less so. Most of the grass was dead, there was litter everywhere (literally a sea of cigarette butts over every inch of ground). The tower itself was walled off, which would be ok except that: A. They did it with horribly ugly chainlink that ruined the sights. B. The parameter was way too large, it invaded the park and made it feel like everyone was getting squeezed into parts of the park. Horrible park. Horrible set up around a beautiful landmark read more

If you come to Paris you have to stop by the "Champs de Mars" for a pic nic, or just a glass of wine and piece of cheese, starring at the Eiffel blinking at night. It's one of the rare parisian fantasies I always like to re-do. If drinking is not your stuff, you can bring some "balls" to play "petanque" or even play basketball in one of the playground around. Some time in the year like end of school year the area is very crowdy and sometimes cops kick people out because of alcohol consumption (which is forbidden). but give it a try and go there , you won't regret it. read more

My home base in Paris. I went to the American University of Paris (barely a five-to-ten-minute walk away) my junior year of college, and as it was a tiny university (only five buildings scattered throughout the 7th Arrondissement) this was the closest we had to a college quad: I've eaten lunch here, done my homework here, filmed school projects here, had parties with classmates here (and practically the whole school, in the case of the World's Fair afterparty), and even had a class session or two here. It truly felt like a part of our makeshift campus; however, instead of a random clock tower or sculpture marking our college quad, we had the Eiffel Tower looming over us. read more
