I won't do business there again. I wanted a simple purchase of a one inch think foam mattress topper. Looked at a soft sample and a firm sample. I said I definitely wanted the soft one, ordered and paid for it. Got a call later saying manufacturer suggested consider a "better quality" foam. I replied "better quality" is fine. That didnt mean firm. What I got was the firm one. Don't want it. Want the soft one. Called twice and left 2 voicemails about returning it for the soft one and they won't even call me back. Won't be shopping there any more in the future. read more

Chameleon style made new cushions for my 2 old sofas. The staff was excellent-everyone was friendly and knowledgable. the new cushions are beautiful and really well made. Nancy Kawaguchi, in particular was very helpful with picking out the right fabric and the layout of the pattern. I would really like to praise this establishment and definitely would except I find the product flawed. I found the sofa bench uncomfortable and notified the owner who was very willing to have me bring the seat cushion in to analyze the problem, and added material to the casing. Unfortunately this did not correct the problem. The cushion is simply uncomfortable. I am not certain but I have come to think the issue is in the removable deck beneath the cushion which has a single metal spring running horizontally the length of the bench seat. When sitting on the couch this spot is painful on the derrière! It also lends to back aching. This is the only sofa in my home and used daily for TV viewing at night. I dread resting on this piece. I am ready to chuck it and accept the financial loss. It's was fun to customize what I wanted and the slip cover feature was very attractive. The people are all very professional and patient but the end result for me is sorry to say useless. read more

What a wonderful experience I had choosing all my fabrics for all the new pillows that Camay and the staff at Chameleon Style are making for my home! I am from WA and my mother has a second home in Pismo and had discovered Camay a few years ago, she had furniture made two beautiful chairs as well as pillows and bedding. We love everything they have done and really appreciate the collaboration, creating truly custom pieces that will last for years! When all my pillows are finished I will add photos to my review! I discovered Chameleon some years ago and completed several projects with Camay when I lived in the Central Coast. I have recently moved to Newport Beach and need to redo my bedroom ensemble. I knew every fabric they sent me would go with my bridge fabric , so it was just a matter of choosing one we liked. We're now in the process of selecting additional fabric to reupholster a chair for the same room. All this is happening across the miles! I had a terrible experience trying to work with Camay at Chameleon. I was moving down to this area and went to pick out fabric for Roman window shades at her shop several months before the move. She came to measure at my house on May 10th. Then silence. I emailed and I called. Occasionally she would call back with an excuse: she lost my file (!), the fabric is late etc etc. but mostly she ignored me. I went into the shop and Nancy (her partner/employee) seemed embarrassed that Camay was acting like this. It didn't help as I got more excuses from Camay. Last week I finally left a message asking her to show me the courtesy of a call saying she was not going to do the project. Total silence since then Wasted almost 4 months being told I was going to get the window covering. The windows are still bare and I need to start again. Camay might be talented but she is a terrible business woman and a rude person. Do not do business with her and perhaps she will learn a lesson!? read more

I've thought long and hard about whether or not I should write this review, but in the end, I decided that it would be better if I could help others avoid my mistakes. In 08/2017, I moved into a new house with no furniture, and no seating other than a couple of chairs at a small dining table. This is my first real home, and I really wanted to have some antique seating, so I bought a really nice couch at a local antique store in the Village. I wanted to get it reupholstered locally, so I went into Chameleon. I felt that the prices were outrageous, but I heard that they did good work and, again, I wanted to a support local business, so I went with it. They told me that they were a little bit backlogged but that they would call me to let me know what day I could bring my couch in, and that it either way it would be done by the end of September. I said that I just needed it done by Thanksgiving. They asked me if I wanted to pay for the installation of new nail heads, and I said no because it was quite pricey (over $120). The antique store was kind enough to let me keep the couch there until Chameleon had room for it; however, no one called me, but I gave them the benefit of the doubt because they had insisted that they were busy, so when I got the chance I went into the store in October to ask about the status of my order. I spoke with the staff, and they had a hard time finding my order; while they were looking, they kept telling me about how busy and backlogged they were, even while they were taking in new orders right then. They said that they had been having staffing issues for months, which would have been nice to know in the beginning. After finding my order,they told me that they probably wouldn't have it done until after Thanksgiving. This was really frustrating because I had put down a deposit when I first came in,and I was going to be having guests over during Thanksgiving with nowhere to sit other than at the dining table.They then told me they could recommend someone who does automobile reupholstery, if I wanted it done faster. I told them no, and that I would just have it done there, but I explained how frustrated I was, and that I needed to know when I could move the couch over to the store. They said that I could bring it in on November 13th, and that they would have someone call me the day before to confirm what time I would be bringing it. Then they asked if I wanted the new nail heads again, and I said no. A few days later, they called me and said that they couldn't remember what I had said, and they asked if I wanted the new nail heads again, and I said no again.No one called on the 12th, and when I called on the 13th, they were closed. They told me to come in on a day that they weren't even open! I called the next day, and told them that I was supposed to receive a call and bring in the couch on Monday, but they weren't open, and that there had been people at the antique store ready to help move it. I was even more frustrated at this point because I wouldn't be able to bring it in until Thursday due to work. They said they would be able to go pick up the couch for me no problem, since it was only approximately 1000ft away. I told them, no, and that I could do it, but they insisted that it wouldn't be a problem, so I relented. The next day I received a phone call from them telling me that they got the couch, but that it was a huge hassle for them because they had no help and had to go back to the store to have two other men help them get it. They also said that it was in bad shape and that they had needed to take it apart to fix it, which was weird since the couch was fine when I last saw it.I finally went to pick it up just after Thanksgiving, and they reiterated that it was a hassle for them to pick it up and that they hoped I didn't pay a lot for it because it needed a lot of repairs. They asked for my card to finish payment, but then I saw that there was an extra fee on the invoice that said, "Pick up, no help," for $50. They didn't want to say what it was, but finally said that it was because they had to pick up the couch and there was no help, like I said there would be. I told them that they were the ones who had said it wouldn't be a problem, and I never said there would be help.They got upset and directed me to the man who picked up the couch. He was immediately hostile and repeated what they said, but I told him that exactly what happened. They eventually took the charge off, but they were incredibly rude the entire time. The woman charging my card was slamming things around and told me, "It must be nice to get things for free."While the couch turned out beautifully, it was a "huge hassle" to have it done for so much time and money. Also, the couch is light enough that my friend and I can carry it easily between us, it shouldn't have been a problem for them. I would NEVER recommend this place to anyone that I didn't want to experience grief and anger. read more
