I found this place after much searching on the Internet and finally, through a UK website homeaway.co.uk (a site I often use to find holiday homes), I came across this one. As a rule, if you want to find a holiday home during Christmas in Austria, plan way ahead as all the good ones are gone very early in the year. I booked this one in April and it took weeks of searching to find it.
It's a gorgeous home in the UNESCO Biosphere area of Lungau. Located in a small village it's a beautiful location with tons of ski resorts and mountains nearby. A small town of Mouterndorf is just 3.5k away and a good 40 min walk. This town has restaurants, grocery shopping, butcher, bakery and some other shops.
The house itself is very nice. It's comfortable and had good quality furniture throughout. Linen and towels are provided and there is an extra charge for more towels and so on. You also pay for electricity and it's really really expensive in this area. Check before you agree to anything.
There is an outdoor sauna and hot tub. The hot tub works on wood fire. There is an open fire BBQ at the back and works very well. Great for trying some outdoor cooking the old fashioned way. The kitchen is well stocked and there are basic supplies available like oil, sugar and so on. They have a mini bar in the house and it's an honor system, you pay what you consume.
I loved this house and would happily come here again. It has four bedrooms and two bathrooms and quite comfortable for 8 people. The dining table fits 12. It's also reasonably priced in comparison to others in the area. The power bill is the reason I am giving it four stars. We simply did not expect such a high power bill. The rest is just great. read more
