I am fortunate and most grateful to have access to UCLA's top oncologist Dr. Daniel Greenwald. The…read morerelationship between a patient and their doctor can make all the difference so it's a privilege to be under Dr. Greenwald's expert care and consideration as I embark upon treatment for my CLL. A strong partnership leads to more informed decisions, personalized care, and a greater sense of control. Additionally, i find the office staff to be friendly, courteous, and professional.

This is my experience. My mother, healthy 79 year old woman, who routinely golfed and exercised,…read more entered a Cancer trial via Summit Therapeutic administered & managed by UCLA Health in SB. Unbeknownst to the family, had been in remission for years and yet literally signed her life away, First bag of fluid, started falling periodically, loss appetite. After second bag, face dropped ( both sides) was falling down often, could barely walk, could not drive, crashed car twice. I took her back to UCLA SB, had to physically walk her in, asked if she had a stroke. Answer, "No" her condition has nothing to do with trial, and a stroker is usually one-side of face - provided bag of fluid and sent us home. Within two days, became incontinence, could not walk at all, notified UCLA and took her to emergency room, where she was admitted. Her condition was serious and to keep story short, she suffered more than twenty strokes ( both sides of brain, which is why both sides of face fell and then passed away less than a week later. Nobody from UCLA came to Ventura hospital to assist in her care. The hospital confirmed both the initial face droop was indeed a stroke on both sides of brain and diagnosis condition was directly linked to the cancer trial. I wrote a very nice letter to both the President of UCLA, Johnese Spisso and Summit Therapeutic to learn about what transpired, how did UCLA miss the first stroke sign, etc. The lead Physician did call me initially to apologize, however, nobody from a leadership team has ever contacted me to provide anytype of assistance, apology, acknowledgement or condolence. Now, I feel its my responsibility to educate the public on these cancer trials, please become educated as I have now learned my mother is not the only person to pass away as a result of this particular Summit trial. It's been a very difficult time to lose a mother who was very vibrant, looking forward to the holidays with her friends and family.
