Yesterday I sold 2 mobile phones and was told the money would be in my bank by 12.00 the next day. The CeX site also states the same. On arriving home, I checked the receipt of goods ticket with both amounts totalling £0.00. I can only assume that the store have decided that I don't deserve the money for the items I sold. Should have sold on eBay. EDIT: further to the response from Cex. Both phones were immediately priced with the HTC U11 being labelled at £82.00 and put straight on the shelf for sale. I was told I would receive £46.50 for both phones. £5.00 was deducted per phone to add a charging lead. As I haven't received a penny for the phones, technically I still own them. I'll let any reader of this review draw their own conclusions re the ramifications of such actions. read more

This is the Ritz of second hand electrical shops, if you can have such a thing. Downstairs there's a whole floor dedicated to computer games and DVDs, great for picking up box sets of those TV shows that passed you by at rock bottom prices, while upstairs there's row upon row of electrical equipment and separate tills for buying and selling goods - handy when it gets busy, as it often does. I came here recently to buy a new laptop and the staff were excellent, letting me get the machines out and have a play around. Computer Exchange is a strange place. Once you get over the smell of body odour and the fact that you're the oldest person in there, and also that you have less eyeliner on than the dude behind the counter, and have found your way upstairs, you can browse at your leisure through hundreds and hundreds of reasonably priced second hand DVDs. Downstairs is where you can bag new and second hand video games and hardware, along with mobile phones, laptops, televisions and other electronic gadgety items. If you get a Computer Exchange card, you can happily swap mobiles and consoles and stuff for the rest of your days, but it will mean that you have to queue up forever, and also cope with that smell. The staff here are very understanding with a positive attitude towards genuine shoppers. I had a situation where the store was closed at exactly closing time, where they have a person to allow ppl out but not in, which of course makes sense. However, I had bought a Nintendo switch I knew what game I needed and the guy was nice enough to check stock there and then, and I presume the staff member could tell the queue was only one person, allowed me to buy that very game! I was very impressed at this as most ppl would say come back tomorrow. I think he assessed the situation well. I will say that the store has a high staff turnover which I believe to be a negative thing, but this guy is permanent from what I can tell. Quick negative points- -high staff turnover (different ppl over time) -no dress code, or professionalism in staff or store image (store smells, long stay not recommended) -expert knowledge is finite -long waits/queues Quick positive points- +friendly staff +great understanding for my situation +get good value compared to others on the high street for you goods and games +can sometimes get brand new items if you are lucky read more

3 steps to survive CEX. 1) Timing: do not enter the store between the hours of 12:30-14:00 as this is peak time. 2) Pegs: take one last gasp of air before you enter and a washing line peg for your nose, this is due to smelly's. 3) stick and move: know what section you're after, locate it,grab item get in the not so massive cue for the checkout. Never had any issues with CEX until they started promoting the funds transfer which in my case took 7 working days to transfer into my account. Located right across the street from PC World, CEX, or Computer Exchange, is a worthy competitor to the PC selling giant. Not only can you buy cheaper, second hand versions of the top of the range gadgets and gizmos, you can take in your older, unused ones. They have just about any electronic gadget, ranging from computers, to games consoles, to mobile phones, and an extensive choice of discounted DVDs and video games. The fact that it moved from out of the way, tucked down behind the Leeds Shopping Plaza to such a prominant location on the Headrow is testemant to how well it does and what a great idea the place is. I will warn you though, it is good, and therefore it is always very busy. CEX, these seem to be cropping up all over the place, but this is one of the biggest I've seen. What is it? Well the essential description would be an electrical goods trading store. Bring in your used electricals that you're now bored of, hand them over to a surly faced staff bod, they then take your goods, poke, prod, plug test, then suck their teeth. They will then tell you if they will or will not buy your goods. If they won't, your journey ends here. If they will, they'll either test it on the spot, or give you a time frame with which to come back. It is at this point they will give you a price, and you'll swear it's too low, but whatcha gonna do about it? Ok so what do they take? They take mobile phones, games, games consoles, televisions, laptops, PCs, DVDs, MP3 players, and any other gadget you have that will past the muster. Don't get me wrong, there is some proper tat in places like this, and it all really depends on whatever people are getting rid of or trading in that week or month as to the quality of the goods on offer, but, if you are thinking of buying something from CEX then try not to let the fact that they're pre-owned put you off. All goods that become saleable in the shop are put through the same rigourous checks that yours went through before they offered you trade in pennies. P.S weekends are a bad idea to trade in your stuff, it tends to get crazy busy, and if you are in the hunt for games and want to ask questions about intended purchases, the process can become a bit frustrating, so go at some random time like 10am Monday morning, just to be on the safe side. read more

I've never actually used the service they provide in here but my friend asked me to pop in with her to look at the DVD's they had in stock. I was surprised to see such a big collection of second hand great quality discs and she ended up walking away with a nice stash of chick flicks for us to watch over the weekend. The staff were really nice in store and seemed really helpful in helping us find what we wanted. I never usually visit shops like this but my opinion has now been changed. read more

I have never really had a need, or in fact want to pop into any shop like this. Second hand electrical goods have never really wow-ed me at all. However my phone broke and a mate of mine told me to nip into CEX on my way through town and look at their 2nd hand mobiles. I didn't end up buying one in the end due to my want and need for another Prada which this one off second store didn't have, but if it did it would have been cheap! Their 2nd hand phones were still in very good nick and half the price of what Phones4U would offer. I noticed many laptop's and television that were also hugely discounted. What makes CEX brilliant is the downstairs. It is literally one HUGE room full of second hand DVD'S. The A-Z of titles goes all around four walls of the room with shelves of tv series, sports, cartoons, music and other DVD's in between. It is a large collection than any HMV or Blockbusters offers. You can find any film and even current releases for all under and tenner! I have found many of my old favourite for around £4! Bargain!! It all sounds great but there is a BUT and a big one at that (hence the capitals!) The queues are massive! You can queue for up to half and hour to buy your Desperate Housewives boxset which I feel a little annoying. Especially when your feet are hurting from shopping and their is a baby crying behind you and a weird man chatting to you in front. Not good times. PLUS, I have reached the desk (eventually) on two occasions to find that I have to wait an extra ten minutes for the staff to search through their odd filing system of discs to turn around and tell me that my DVD is lost. Just been served by the loveliest member of staff who went hunting all over for my weird request for an old cable that's not even produced anymore for my monitor. They even tested it in store with my laptop to make sure it all worked and it only cost me 3 pounds!! Was going to go to PC World originally where they would probably have charged a fortune and not taken as much care. My friend suggested CEX and I am so glad I took him up on that! Great place to go if you want to pick up a bargain. Only downside is to say there is plenty of staff behind the counter the service can be on the slow side. Not sure either why they need so many staff as most just stand about talking to each other rather than working. read more

Not good for electronic goods bought original ps3 controller supposedly 24 months warrant.faulty within months cex will not repair or reimburse i am seeking advice trading standards at moment.I feel like a right idiot my friend advised me not to buy electronics goods from there. Great shop, extremely cheap DVDs and computer games for all consoles. Staff members are very friendly and really enjoy there job. Everytime im been there, they always stat a conversation with me over what im buying! They also play awesome music in the background to shop to. Forget GAME and/or gamestation, this is the shop to go to! read more

i like cex.. lol. it can be cheap. have cool music on. all the staff are cool. and have some really good lookin women staff.. the prices can be a lil high for 2nd hand stuff. but great if your needing some hardware.. i wouldnt put it over game, for console games.. and if you are into trading things in. be prepared to wait n leeds for an hour or so.. an awesome place though.. read more

Jeez - took my Macbook Pro in to them today. Got offered a lousy price so brought it home to find out they have put a password on it !!!!! No telephone number to call just email 'support'. If this is the level of their expertise then they need some serious help. I'll now have to take the MBP back in for them to sort - great. Doubt they'll pay parking....... read more
