This is a lovely shop, full of wearable and elegant clothes. A pleasure to visit, no pressure to buy but lots of temptation!

Betty Bags

This is another one of Angela B.'s and I's stops when we visit Edinburgh. Angela introduced me to…read morethis wee jem the last time we were venturing in the Burgh. Located in Princes Mall, next to Edinburgh Waverley Train Station, it stocks loads of cool bags. When I came through previously I was carrying my Asda bag for life plastic carrier. I was not looking cool at all and to be honest I hate carrying things in my hands as I'm always worried I will put down somewhere then leave it by accident. Here was like an "Ahhhhhh!" moment for me and they had great wee backpacks. They had ones ideal for what I needed. I was introduced to cool Prosport cartoon bags. I loved them all!!! I picked with one with a pirate lady theme. I loved it! The girl was lovely and helped me picked one where you could see my pirate lady clearly. Now my Asda plastic carrier bag now lives in my awesome sexy pirate lady mini backpack. It's affordable and they have a really good selection. They also stock travel sized bags and cases. In our case (excuse the pun) though we just head straight to our favourite Prosport bags.
Betty Bags is an independant shop in Princes Mall, which stocks...well, you guessed it! Bags…read more As well as bags, none of which are really to my taste to be honest, Betty also sells accessories and wee Japanese figurines. A strange mixture, but interesting to have a browse around, and to be honest, the mall doesn't offer much else to browse. I don't really go in for bright colours, diamanté and big chunky buckle type bags, or anything with cartoon characters on, but if you did, I'm pretty sure you could find something here. They stock quite a lot of Betty Boop (inspiration for the name, perhaps?) and Spongebob Squarepants figurines and memorabilia, which is reasonably priced for that sort of thing.
Accessorize

In theory, this place should be my favourite shop ever. For some reason, though, there's something…read moreabout it that simply doesn't click. I love bags, I love hats, I'll find any excuse to buy a new scarf. And yet, this place is never the first, or even third, place I'll go to look for such items. I think it goes back to when I was younger and couldn't afford to shop here, but there must be something more. No matter how hard I try, though, I can't seem to put my finger on it. Don't get me wrong, they have lots of lovely items from which to choose. Their bags are great and often a little bit different or unusual - nothing like the same old Primark totes that everyone in Glasgow is dragging around. Accessorize is probably a great place to impulse buy all sorts of rings and gloves and purses; but I haven't really given it that chance. I think my problem is that I go here when I have money, not to browse. Whatever my issue is, Accessorize remains a great high street shop with a huge selection of all manner of accessories. If nothing else, it's great for window shopping.

I love my friend, but didn't really fancy leaving the house wearing a bird on my head, or forking out my hard-earned cash for the privilege. Luckily I stumbled upon Accessorize on Buchannan Street and their ample selection of fascinators (that's the bird-like things) which started at very reasonable prices. The shop itself it is a good one too- it's much bigger than your average Accecorize store with bigger selections of jewellery, hair things, bags, some shoes, and now that winter's on its way- hats, gloves and scarves!

I love this place so much. I was in Edinburgh on business and when I had a day off I went around…read morethe town to explore a bit and stumbled upon this place. Not being super into wool and hand made items at the time, I bought one wool headband and brought it home (living in Seattle, you get COLD all the time). I grew to love this headband so much, that I now order headbands all the time from this place and have them shipped to Seattle. I cannot find yarn like the yarn at Ragamuffin ANYWHERE! It is so unique and thick, I would buy hundreds of headbands from this place if I could. Truly, they are so unique, I cannot do them justice in an explanation. I always tell people who are going to EDI for business to check this place out, and I will definitely continue ordering from this place as long as they let me. :)

I was in last…read moreweek and got a gorgeous layered pearl bracelet with a fabric flower on it, it's so cute and I'd been looking for something like it for a while so I couldn't believe my luck when I saw it and it was a snip at £8! They always have a great range of bags, stationary, lingerie, sunglasses, jewellery and various other knick knacks and if you want something gift wrapped you can get it wrapped in pretty tissue paper at the till. I guess my favourite time at Accessorize is sale time where they often have as much as 70% off! I especially like the winter sale where I can stock up on gloves and other winter woolies 'cos lets fact it - you really can never have too many woolies when you live in Scotland!
Accessorize - the name pretty much sums up the contents of this chain store. There are two on…read morePrinces Street, which is quite understandable; they're both quite small and in the busier months one would hardly do. I've admired a lot of their bags, hair accessories and bikinis, but for the quality of some of their pieces I find them largely over-priced. For example, I bought a pair of plastic flip flops, out of necessity really, which came up to £10. If they were especially attractive, I would have understood, but they were simply pieces of glorified rubber! If I were looking for something special I would try the many unique and independently owned shops first.

Miss Katie Cupcake sells everything from necklaces, to handheld vintage mirrors, to photo frames. I love the style in this place - unique and vintage looking products. My boyfriend bought a gorgeous photoframe (will add a photo soon) and lucky for us you can also buy things on the Facebook page too! Definitely worth a visit, especially nice for gifts (either for yourself or a friend!)

I had mistakingly thought it looked a bit outdated, but they've got some lovely, delicate looking rings for as little as a tenner, Ortak necklaces and an interesting collection of second hand gold charms. A lot of their styles will appeal to older generations, but there are contemporary pieces if you look hard enough. Marshalls is also a functioning store that polishes, mends, customises pieces and engraves on request. The business is a Jack of all trades in that respect, but for the casual browser there are both timeless, modern and unusual trinkets to suit a variety of clinetele.
