Finally, Dr. Bloom (our pediatric dentist, who owes his bulging bank account to my kids' crappy brushing techniques and stubborn resistance to ever floss) delivered the inevitable, wallet deflating news - braces were necessary. I selected Dr. Kawakami, blindly, no preferences were given from Bloom, who remains annoyingly, politically indifferent during such discussions. So, left to my own decision making devices, I chose Kawakami based on the consonant cadence of his name. The first time we met Dr. Kawakami, it was Friday, just before Halloween. The entire office staff, including Dr. K were festively attired in costumes, and not on a phoning-it-in level, either. Much to my sci-fi son's delight, Dr. K was Star Trek's Spock and easily indulged him w/ Spock-isms. We were putty in his hands after that initial interaction. Dr. K is a kind, conscientious person. He gently mapped out treatment option and easily shared his experienced opinions. The grand total for the multiple tactics necessary to correct my son's problems came to $4000, of which our insurance covered $1000 - yeah, our insurance suuuucks! Dr. K's office offers a generous 10% discount for cash payment in full, so that brought it down to $2700. That includes all of the x-rays, maintenance visits, wax, etc... Dr. K's staff is really friendly, happy, even. I actually buy that they like working there. His receptionists are not time Nazi's, meaning, when we happen to run late - ok, I admit to an uncontrollable, genetic predisposition that unintentionally results in arriving a few minutes late, yes, people hate me for it, but, I digress - they don't give us the evil eye, making us feel even guiltier, like every other desk jockey does. My son's brace technician is Cheryl, he really likes her, considers her a friend, and barely complains even when she has to crank up the wire tension. Tanner's teeth are well on their way to becoming one of his best assets, thanks to Dr. K and his staff. They have made an expensive and tedious process sail by smoothly.

He also spotted a small crack in an old amalgam filling that he repaired with resin. He was very professional and genuinely friendly. He answered all my questions and I never felt at all rushed. I then had my teeth cleaned and it was just excellent. The clinic is only a five minute walk from the border. It's not a jam-packed operation with dozens of staff and scores of patients. It's a very relaxed atmosphere. Everything is clean and everything I mentioned above was done for $150. In the U.S., I'm guessing I would have paid about $450 (Or I would have been sold a root canal.)

I heard about Dr. Moreno from my dad. He spoke very highly of him and his office so I went with him. Now don't get me wrong, going to an orthodontist office in a different country was a bit nerve wracking for me. I live in Arizona so it wasn't a bad drive at all, just about an hour or so away and the walk across the border was just a small 5 minute walk. It was actually very exciting my first time going I was able to see the uniqueness of Mexico. The second you step into this office though it was like I stepped right back into one of the orthodontist offices in Tucson. The place is spotless, and I mean so clean you can see your reflection on the marble walls. It was so fancy as well with marble everywhere and flat screen TVs, the kids area has an array of tablets set to a counter with chairs and a bunch of games on them. The couches are comfortable with plenty of magazines also in English for some. He lady at the desk was very welcoming and spoke good English. And they have a neat set up where you walk up to a computer to check yourself in. The doctor did a consult with me and he was very professional and paid very close attention to detail from my X-rays. He explained to me all of his plans for how to get my teeth to look the best. He had very neat graphics on his computer that showed how my teeth would move. He even fixed he proportions of my jaw with small comfortable titanium screws. (I didn't even know that was possible). The staff was all so nice even the ones who couldn't speak much English were very patient with me and very nice. The big room where the doctor works on your teeth is very comfortable and he talks to you the whole time ensuring you are comfortable. I do recommend going as early as possible if you have to cross the border just because the line to cross the border back to Tucson is very short in the mornings on weekdays. I almost forgot to mention how great his prices are, very affordable monthly payments! And much less expensive than Tucson. I love my smile and get compliments on it all the time I couldn't have gone to a better orthodontist. He gets all of my recommendations!

Over the past 10 years I have tried several on-line MAD devices (mandibular advancement devices)…read morethat I either purchased through Amazon or had professionally made by a dentist. However, the ones from Amazon were usually uncomfortable, fell apart quickly, and didn't fit quite right, and the professionally made one was fairly cheaply made, hard to maintain, and VERY difficult to get replacement parts for (plastic spacer bands unavailable). So, although I was VERY skeptical at first, I tried a new professionally made device from Alan at Samurai Sleep. Although they are expensive (around 6K....hence my skepticism!!) mine was fully covered (100%) by Medicare and my secondary insurance (UHC). The quality of the materials used is huge (just like a professionally made denture) and the effectiveness is huge (I am able to sleep better than I have at any time in my life!!!). So, if you are considering getting a MAD device instead of a CPAP machine (a no-brainer for me!!!) I highly recommend getting one through Samurai Sleep. Also, Charity (the office manager) makes the whole process (especially the interface with the insurance companies) very easy and they all are super easy to work with. Very Highly Recommended! You get a happy office when you sign up but as soon as you have questions or don't feel like you're being treated properly they'll do anything to brush you off. Waste of my time and money. I told her I had GEHA so she called GEHA and got me preapproved. The next step was the x-rays and of course this information was sent to GEHA and I paid my detectable after that. I found out 1 year after a received my aligners that Dr. Rosens office sent me a text which I received 7:00 PM that I owed the remaining amount for my aligners. I called his office the next day ask what was up. I was told that my aligners were not approved, and they ask me to call GEHA which I did. GEHA told me they never approved me. Dr. Rosens office gave me a discount, so I went in and paid it. The crappie thing is they never admitted they made a mistake or even fallowed up with GEHA when it was denied first time. His billing practices are misleading and deceptive, and it ended up costing few thousand dollars. They made an appointment for me for a one-year fallow up which I mediately put the info in my calendar on my phone. When I went to my appointment, they told me they me I did not have one but did let me stay to see Dr Rosen.

I hadn't been in for a couple of years and arrived without an appointment, yet the moment I walked through the door I was met with the kind of professionalism and genuine care that every patient hopes for. Ivan greeted me immediately and handled the situation with impressive calm and efficiency. Within minutes he had taken an X-ray, contacted Drs. Saturno and Ruiz, and assured me they would fit me in despite a busy schedule. His attentiveness set the tone for the entire visit. Before seeing his scheduled patients, Dr. Saturno--whom I know personally--took the time to examine my tooth and review the X-ray with me. He explained the situation clearly and compassionately, ultimately recommending an extraction. His transparency and thoroughness were deeply reassuring. I was then escorted across the street to their original office (their new clinic is truly magnificent, by the way), where I met Dr. Alejandra--Dr. Ruiz's sister. Dentistry clearly runs in the family. A molar extraction certainly doesn't make anyone's "Top 10 Favorite Experiences" list, but Dr. Alejandra changed that for me. She was extraordinary--professional, meticulous, gentle, and remarkably skilled for such a young dentist. I felt absolutely nothing. The entire procedure was so smooth and comfortable that it was over before I even realized we had begun. From start to finish, the care, compassion, and competence of the entire Border Dental team were exceptional. I left genuinely grateful--not only for the immediate relief, but for the level of humanity and expertise they consistently bring to their work. I cannot recommend Border Dental highly enough.
