The 45th annual Hawai'i JCI (Junior Chamber International) Senate and Alumni Awards Banquet was held on 2-15-25 in the lobby of a bank:
Central Pacific Bank (CPB)
It's located in Downtown Honolulu, on the corner of Alakea Street and King Street.
My friend, Yvette, reached out to me and asked me to attend. I don't remember participating in the past, so I thought... why not?
However, I didn't know the honoree...
plus, he wasn't even from my island of O'ahu! Oh, well... I wanted to support Yvette -
she is the current President of our local JCI organization. She instructed me to RSVP to our other friend, Tammy... yay!
At least I'll know someone else at the Banquet.
The big day arrived. I parked in the CPB parking structure. The entrance is on King Street. We received stickers on our parking ticket for 4 free hours!
I'm grateful to CPB employees (they wore turquoise-colored golf shirts) who gave us instructions on how to get to the lobby. They were situated at the entrance to the parking, at the elevators, and at places where the hallways split. They were all welcoming and helpful!
The event was well organized with reception table, no host bar, silent auction tables, buffet line, and dining area. Excellent Live music was by Maria Alexander and Sonny Aquino. Maria said that she came out of retirement for this event... wow... can't tell! Maria and Sonny performed some current songs!
The delicious food was catered by Tanioka's and included items such as flavorful Salmon, tasty shoyu chicken, Sautéed veggies, fresh green salad, colorful fruit salad, and tender beef bourguignon.
The dining area looked so elegant with white tablecloths, cloth napkins, silverware, glassware, and lavender rose centerpieces with twinkling lights. All of these items and the tables and chairs (except for the centerpieces and favors) were rented from Main Party Rentals.
How do I know so many details? I sat next to my friend, Tammy, who was one of the co-chairs of the event! She also filled me in on the Awardee: Arnold Martines. He happens to be the President and CEO of Central Pacific Bank!
When Tammy was State Jaycee President, Arnold (from Paauilo, Hawaii) was president of the Hilo Jaycees.
Yes... local boy does good!
We're so happy that his family and friends from the Big Island were able to witness this small token of gratitude for his contributions to our community!
Arnold is very deserving of this Award for Community Service and Leadership!
Being a JCI Senator is the highest Award in the organization. The Jaycees give young adults the opportunity to learn leadership skills such as speaking in public, running a meeting, working with volunteers, planning an event, etc.
Congratulations, Arnold Martines...
our newest JCI Senator from Hawaii!
P.S. Thanks to CPB for the planning meetings and wonderful event space! Thanks to the JCI committee for the door prizes and hard work!
It was a tremendous success! read more
