This library is in the city centre and is great fo accessing the internet whilst in town for free (you need to join the library but this is free lalso). There is a huge range of books for all, including a collection of books in languages other than english. The libarians are very helpful. read more

Leicester central library is situated about 5 minutes walk from the town centre, so is quite easy to get to. They have a range of material suitable for all ages and a few different languages. Its quite dull though, could do with cheering up a bit and I think that it could do with a few more books as the range isnt as large as it could be. Leicester's central lending library is situated on Belvoir street which is just on the outskirts of the main city centre, nearby is New Walk and Leicester City FC is only a short walk from here. Next door to the central lending library is the central reference library - the place to go if you require any reference material. The central lending library is the biggest library in Leicester city and the building is composed of three floors. There is a very large collection of books in both fiction and non-fiction, the history section is especially strong. You can also find more obscure titles on everything from philosophy to biology that are simply not available at other libraries in Leicester. The library also offers a large collection of music cd, dvd and language recordings available for rental at a cheaper rate than most commercial businesses. The library also has a large collection of Indian- language material, including in Urdu and Gujarati, reflecting the needs of the cities diverse population. read more

The main library in Leicester is located about 5 minutes away from the main city centre. The nearest major landmarks to it are perhaps the prison and De Montfort University. The library itself is just off New Walk and has three floors. I personally like the atmosphere in the library. It's not too bright and not too dull either btu sort of meets somewhere in the middle providing a calm and relaxed environment for you to read or study. The downstairs section contains mostly books associated with music as well as CDs you can take out though there are some nice tables and seating the best place to go if you want to study is up to the top floor where there are tables scattered around everywhere. Personally I feel the tables aren't really in the best place as people are always going by and it's pretty distracting. The top floor features a lot of reference books deemed for accademia such as Psychology, Sociology and various other vocational subjects. I find the selection to be quite extensive and useful for both studies and for personal interests., The library doesn't really have a large fiction section. I've noticed that there aren't really a lot of modern authors available either. The children's section is tucked away on the main floor in the corner but is very cosy and there are usually a lot of reading support groups and such on offer. Personally I think the layout of the library could be improved but the dedicated and helpful staff make every visit very much enjoyable. read more
