Horrible experience. My son was rear ended by one of their clients when he stopped at a stop light. From my very first contact with them I found them to be condescending. They drug their heals on everything. I had to call the police department and get them to send the police report to them even though I gave them all the information received. The dickered with the shop I selected and eventually just totaled the car offering me a lowball offer. I did get them up some, but then I got an email to send them my signed paper work. I asked for a shipping label their curt response was they did not provide prepaid shipping labels nor did they reimburse. I felt like I was totally inconveniencing them, somehow they just did not grasp my son was the victim all he did was stop at a stoplight. read more

Long story short: Assigned an agent to my claim who didn't call. Learned he went out of town for a week after tracking down his info and calling multiple times. No one from the main line would call me back or help with my claim. Lost several hundred dollars, as I was in the middle of selling the vehicle. The Story: A shipping company ran into my truck. Damage was fairly minimal. We filed the claim with their insurance (Central Mutual). Received a call, fairly quickly, saying Kagan Strayer would help with the claim. I called Kagan that morning and left a message, but didn't hear back. I called back the next day and his voicemail said he would be out of the office for over a week. Now, I am not knocking Kagan for taking time off. I'm frustrated that, after calling the mainline multiple times, and leaving multiple messages explaining my situation, NO ONE called me back. Unfortunately, I was in the middle of negotiating the sale of my truck, when they hit me. I held off, as long as I could but wound up having to drop the price a few hundred bucks, so the buyer could handle the repairs. Kagan called me back the day after it sold... I guess, if you're looking for a company that will drag their feet in resolving claims YOU caused, Central Mutual is the way to go. What's the point of insurance if they don't follow the policies they agree to? They denied my homeowners claims even though damage fits within an endorsement I paid for. Very disappointed with Central and will definitely never use them again. If they had simply filled the claim as required by the agreement, in the long run they would have made money on me since they'd have a loyal customer who doesn't have repairs often. Instead, I'll never use them again and they're going to be stuck with a lawsuit. Sad situation. read more

I insured my small business with this company for many years. I never had a claim so I can't comment on well they handle claims. They sent out an inspector when they first wrote the policy. Then once a year they would have an auditor call me, get my financial information, then adjust my premium retroactively for the previous year. I'm not sure if this is normal for the industry. I have only one issue with them (and the reason I knocked off three stars). In my final year in business, as the recession took hold and my finances diminished, I chose to make monthly payments and have them automatically billed to my credit card. It worked fine for the first few months, then I suddenly got a Past Due notice. So I called in and spent HOURS with a rep and her supervisor finding out what the problem was. They insisted there was something wrong with my card and that I should call my bank. I repeatedly told them that I have other automatic bills on that card and they all went through. Then the supervisor asked me if this was a "bank-issued" credit card. As opposed to what!? Finally they found out that the expiration date for my credit card that they had in their system was past, and had to be updated. So did this solve the problem? Nope. It worked for the next month, then I got another nasty letter. So I called again, explained myself again, and spent an HOUR repeating my earlier conversation with a different rep. What was the problem this time? The previous supervisor updated my expiration date, but did not restart automatic billing. She manually put the card through so I got one month, but no more. If this is how they handle billing, I don't want to imagine how they handle claims. Obviously they need to train their reps and supervisors better. The next time I start a business, I will look elsewhere for insurance. read more

If there was a minus zero, I would have given it that rating. Have been with them 10 years. They do not deserve to be in business. They covered my expenses & losses for hurricane Matthew last year. This time when I filed the hurricane claim for Irma they said they made a mistake last time & should not have paid me. So they paid me for 5 business days of sales but nothing for my losses which were about $4500. Then they fought me because they thought I was closed the 6th day; after many emails of which were very disrespectful on their part, they sent an insult check of $48 for one day sales. My sales average 6 times that much on a slow day. STAY FAR AWAY FROM THIS COMPANY FOR ANY INSURANCE OF ANY KIND. read more

After insuring home and autos with the company for over 20 years & paying them a lot of money (was transferred to the company when my last company stopped doing business in Ga), my coverage was not renewed due to my agent not being with the company any longer. Apparently they just dump bunches of customers whenever they want by cancelling out their agents, after speaking to friends & family members who also had Central Ins I was told when they tried to go to other agents like it said to do on the notice they got, they got quotes with other companies but no one was able to keep the insurance they had. All seems kind of sketchy to me. I didn't check into it myself. who wants insurance with a company that treats loyal customers who stayed when there were better deals out there that way? To anyone signing up with them I say good luck - if you're smart you'll have a back up plan so not caught off guard when they decide it's time to dump another batch of customers. I would have left them long ago if I had any idea they would do this. read more

Our nightmare with Central Insurance began the night of our collision. We were out of town, unfamiliar with the area, standing on a dark, busy street after the collision, and we called the number on the back of our insurance card. expecting information, and a helping hand. The person answering the call had NO INFORMATION they could give us about what steps we needed to take. The accident took place Sept.19, repair work didn't start until Oct.4, and it was not completed until Nov. 10. (Actual repair work took about 2 weeks max). Thank goodness there were no personal injuries! The process was like being in a circus, with checks being mailed to the wrong place, calls to Central not being returned, waiting days for an inspector to come to make an assessment, calling to find out why the inspector didn't come, finding out the inspector was told not to come (really!!!), the dealership waiting for days for Central to respond, and absolutely no communication from the insurance company to us unless we initiated it. If it wasn't so totally time consuming and aggravating, it would have been comical. As soon as our repairs were completed, we dropped Central Home and Auto Insurance. Save yourself hours of work and hardship. Find a company who is truly there for you in an emergency. Seriously. You have been warned. read more
