As a healthcare professional, I understand the challenges involved in finding quality care. Based…read moreon the experiences of my patients, excellent primary care may be the most challenging to find. Here, I've found an excellent physician in Dr. Velez. I came in as a healthy, young male for a pre-employment physical. Working in healthcare, I get physicals at least annually, among other tests and screens. She could have easily performed a cursory physical exam, asked me whether I could physically work, and signed my form. Instead, Dr. Velez provided a complete physical exam, obtained a full medical and surgical history, and screened me for a few health conditions based on my intake forms and family history. Needless to say, I was impressed with her approach this visit. Not only does she provide comprehensive care, she also knows how to build rapport. She entered the room with a friendly smile, used little medical jargon, which improves communication for many, and was very approachable. If I were to stay in Orlando, she would be my primary care physician! Velez Family Health is located in Dr. Phillips in an office building. It's not visible from the parking lot, but if you walk down the hall of the north building, you'll find this clinic on the first floor past the restrooms. The place is clean, and the front desk staff is affable. Want a doc who truly cares about your health? Come here!

What an incredible experience! Dr. Velez is extremely knowledgeable in not only modern medicine,…read morebut nutrition-based medicine as well. She gave excellent recommendations that some would regard as a "holistic approach" to go along with my medication and I'm very confident I will see greater results now than I ever have before because of this additional guidance. In addition, her office staff is also amazing. When they found out that I self-pay for my medication, the office manager took the time to find discount coupons for me online, saving me over $60 at the pharmacy today. I couldn't be more thankful and grateful to have found such a knowledgeable and caring staff that truly goes above and beyond for their patients in both treatment and customer service. My family and I are looking forward to many years with Dr. Velez.

My husband and I switched our PCPs to Dr. Young due to our insurance changed at the beginning of…read more2018. We did not know of Dr. Young prior to our first appointments. We both had awful experiences with not just his staff but with him. He is by far the most arrogant doctor I think I've ever encountered. I actually work for doctors in a cardiologist's office so I am used to the attitude but Dr. Young's attitude was over the top. I told him I was having a bad reaction to Lisinipil that my previous PCP had put me on and it caused a massive weight gain and he told he "that's impossible, I've never heard of that". Well...a quick google search will show it's one of the possible side effects of the drug. I only had 1 appointment and from the level of condescension I did not go back. My husband was hospitalized for pneumonia in April and upon discharge he was told to see a pulmonologist within 2 weeks of discharge. We had to get a referral from Dr, Young per the requirements for the BCBS My Blue HMO plan we have so we went to Dr. Young's office to set up the appointment to have Dr. Young see him and give him the referral for the pulmonologist. They gave him an appointment for the following week. We then went and set up the appointment for the pulmonologist to see my husband the next day knowing we would have the referral in hand. My husband showed up at his appointment and was told that they needed to cancel it...no explanations, no we can see you later today or tomorrow. Nothing! We could not get the referral and they would not see him for another 3 weeks!!! THAT IS WHOLLY UNACCEPTABLE. Since the doctor would not see him he would not give the referral and without the referral the pulmonologist would not see him. Now 4 weeks after discharge from Dr. Phillips for pneumonia he was able to see the doctor and get the referral for his follow up that was supposed to be within 2 weeks. This doctor and his staff are sub par and I would recommend you not put your life in jeopardy nor you waste your time since if you do see him your opinion of your own health will be brushed off and you'll be treated like a child. He's arrogant beyond comparison and he hires irresponsible people to work in his office.

One would think that a well run business would operate to serve clients, customers, and potential…read morefuture customers. This business is not one of them. This business is poorly managed, poorly run, and allows patients to be poorly treated. Last I checked, that's not something a good business does. Long story short, a patient was late due to a pet emergency. They were late by 15 minutes (it took 5 minutes to be acknowledged because they were talking with another patient when they tried to check in). The patient that was late due to the pet emergency attempted to contact the doctor and alert them to being a bit behind schedule. The doctors office phone system was not working and they could not get through. Then, when they got to the office, the staff refused service to this patient despite multiple attempts to communicate with the office. Now as we know, our health care system in America is pretty terrible, and it takes a long time to get seen by your Primary Care Doctor. Adding terrible service to the mix doesn't help. This appointment was scheduled months in advance and the patient attempted to contact the office but the phone system wasn't working properly. So, instead of apologizing for the phone systems not working, the patient was told "we won't see you today because you were late so let's schedule you 3 weeks from now." The appointment was to help diagnose a medical situation that needed immediate attention. The patient was refused the opportunity to be treated, diagnosed, or otherwise cared for by a "Primary Care Physician". By the lack of business savvy, the lack of compassion for the patient, and the pure lack of care the "manager" Samantha (although she does not fit any manager qualifications or qualities) seemed to have... I HIGHLY recommend you STAY AWAY from this "business". They did provide a urine test for part of an issue, and although it showed signs of needing further testing, they still would not help the patient remedy their health concerns. Bad business equals less business, and eventually leads to no business. May this review help you avoid a terrible experience.
