Jury Duty is super organized and automated here. There is an orientation video with clear instructions. The Jury Lounge is comfortable, with seats along the tall paned view windows for great sunlight. The Jury Services Team is located in the Jury Services Lounge, for a seamless experience. There is also a cafe, Hard Copy Cafe, across the hall from the Jury Services Entrance and the prices are reasonable. They did not have chicken options for the meat in a burrito today. Also, no croissant sandwiches available this morning. I asked for the Vegan Burrito but the man who eas taking my order said, "That takes a while to make..so choose something from the already prepared hot items.." Those were wrapped in foil and in a warmer case. I cannot eat pork nor red meat right now so I opted for the already prepared cold case Turkey sandwich and a hot matcha green tea. There are full salads, fruit cups, fruit parfaits, and other great items. There are also many packaged snacks on racks, as seen in my photos. Great variety of options and great coffee expresso & hot beverage options here. Prices are good and my sandwich looks freshly prepared so this is a great place. Took a star off because: They did not have croissants They did not have chicken burritos They would not make the Vegan Breakfast Burrito

This is my First time visiting this Superior Court of Courthouse San Diego, CA An older woman who lives in this house her request was DENIED by one of their San Diego Superior Courthouse Judges . This was due to when I filled out this (30) Pages document and I wrote down the truth on this paperwork on What happened to the victim in being injured at her place of residence by another woman whose currently living at the same residence. Since this victim just touched the person on her arm first , the judge ruled this case as a Temporary Denial until the Hearing Date that has been assigned to the victim at a later date and time for this person who has to speak to the judge in person and tell her side of the story. I talked to the victim this senior citizen woman and I told her to start making her own decisions in thinking for herself . I also told the victim to not allow people to cater to her in her own life. This victim she is a much older woman I told her she needs to take control of her own life. Please stop asking me to do everything for the victim while she does nothing every single day. The victim was supposed to fill out this 30 page documents not me. I had to do all the paperwork for this elderly woman who's the victim that's involved with this case she has filed to attend this San Diego Courthouse Hearing soon. The victim needs to testify and defend herself against this other person who has physically assaulted her in this situation. The best part of that day was when I was able to meet with this younger woman her name is Michelle who works in the Legal Aid Office in the Small Civil Claims Division. Michelle and thank you to another woman who helped the victim in explaining to her who is these Legal Aid Volunteers was very helpful and really concerned about my friends welfare whose the victim in this court case. I wanted to say THANK YOU to these 2 Legal Aid Volunteers who are college students and are spending their FREE Time These college students are doing volunteer work and also are gaining a lot of hands on experience in helping us and other citizens to make our court case documents look more effective and accurate in typing up this information on their computer and then printing off the documents to look more professional when we file this information and give this documentation to the Small Civil Court Cases Office.

This review is mostly about the architecture of the building. I don't recall when was the last time I was called for Jury Duty in San Diego. For sure I don't remember the building. I am glad I got immediately dismissed today. I found the people working there very courteous and efficient considering the amount of people they have to deal with all like in avalanche. About the building...the superior court building in downtown SD is actually really nice. The glass windows make it look like a portal between the good and the bad. Functional and beautiful. Straight lines and curvy shapes in the sky. Because the sky is the limit and after all God is the only one imparting justice. I spent a good time observing, not just being there in & out.

PARKING No on-site parking is available. Nearby paid parking lots are available with early bird specials at American Mall and Horton Plaza, I was told is $12 at the time. TRANSPORTATION Having been to other courthouses, SD Superior is conveniently connected to the regional transit system AMBIANCE The building itself feels spacious and modern. According to Structure Magazine: The courthouse replaces the adjacent existing courthouse facility built over an active earthquake fault zone, (with seismic enhancements) designed for the Judicial Council of California (JCC) by the Skidmore, Owings & Merrill LLP (SOM) - Architecture, Structures, Interiors, and Graphics team... The facility construction was led by the Rudolph & Sletten (R&S) construction manager and contractor team which began in March 2014 and was completed in June 2017. CAFE There is a first floor cafe cart and a physical cafe with seating on the third floor serving sandwiches, beverages, desserts.

12 Tips You Need to Know Before Jury Duty Five stars for American citizen try. Jury duty is your right as a citizen to help your fellowman. Good, bad, or ugly, it is recommended you serve-if selected. 1. If you work an hourly job that is not city, state or government and you are not selected for jury duty, clock out at 12:00 p.m. or later and legally you don't have to return to work. 2. Park and Ride. Take any trolley but the Orange line drops you off right across the street from the courthouse. Jury will give you a trolley pass for one way only, if not selected. If you are selected you retrieve a pass to and from until the trial ends. 3. Arrival time is 7:45 a.m. this is a highly suggested time as many persons entered as late as 8:15 a.m. 4. Bring something to do or read. You could be waiting at least until 12:00 p.m. 5. There are hundreds of seats. Mostly theater style. And uncomfortable. There are several circular tables with 4 seats. Like in a dining area. Countertop seating against the wall has outlets available. There is also a glass enclosure area with about 20 seats or so but it could get kind of stuffy in that section. I would really recommend a seat cushion. Unless you have a BBL. 6. There are no assigned seats. When there are breaks every hour or more, folks come and go and sit down. Don't make this an issue. Although my jacket reserved my preference seat. 7. There is coughing, sneezing, hacking the entire time. 8. Either come with fully charged devices or bring a power surge. At least this will guarantee you power. Folks will share a power surge. Not an outlet. 9. You can eat inside the jury waiting area. There is a refrigerator and microwave. It's likely not often used because you don't know that it exists until after you're there. And you will only be there for a day or for a trial where these amenities are accessible to you. The cafe across the way is terrible. And overcharges. And never have the items you request. And is cashless. Better yet, bring your own snacks & drinks. 10. If you have a disability or require accommodations or closed captioning or anything beyond verbal instructions, let them know in advanced. I was shocked that all instructions required English and remembering what was said. It doesn't matter if it was repeated 10 times. Hey Court. Upgrade to various modalities or delivery as jury duty is important. 11. Come as you are. No need to dress in a suit or tie. Unless you already do. No need to be a fashionista, unless you already are. 12. You were born to be triumphant. Now go be great and inspire others.

Construction you go under to get to the front doors
    Alex D.

Accessibility: the parking kind of stinks for this. I recommend either getting dropped off or driving here extra early so you can drive around and see the closest disabled parking. There is a wheelchair ramp to get from the sidewalk up to the front entrance of the building. There is construction going on at the front entrance, but you CAN enter underneath the construction. Once inside the courthouse, everything is very accessible. Flat ground, 8 different elevators to go up or down to the 22 floors, and wheelchair accessible restrooms. This is a huge courthouse, very nice looking from the outside and inside. It's very clean inside, the restrooms are very clean and well-maintained, there are 22 floors (so be aware if you are terrified of heights), and so far the two judges I've met here are fair in their hearings. The parking sucks a bit because you will probably need to park in an ACE parking lot nearby and pay $30 for the day. If you know for a fact you'll only be here for under 2 hours, you can parallel park in a metered parking spot on the street and be back to your car before 2 hours is up because the meters only let you pay (with coins or credit card) for 2 hours at a time. BE AWARE: EVERYTHING GOES SLOWLY HERE...TRIALS START AN HOUR LATER THAN THEY ARE SET FOR, JURY DUTY WILL LAST LONGER THAN THEY SAY, PAPERWORK TAKES LONGER...EVERYTHING IS VERY SLOW. I DO RECOMMEND PAYING TO BE HERE ALL DAY IN A PARKING LOT IF YOU ARE COMING FOR JURY DUTY OR A TRIAL.

Here at the Superior Court of California at 7:00 am waiting to report for Jury Duty. It's a beautiful cool morning with partly cloudy skies. The day after a storm is always refreshing! As I sit here waiting for the doors to open at 7:30 am, there seems to be a massacre going on!!! I hear screeches of birds echoing through the caverns of downtown. Actually, I suspect that it's a recording of birds of prey to keep the undesirable birds away from roosting on or about the building. You would think you're in a jungle!!! The previous reviews are spot on in regards to visiting the Superior Court. I must say, they keep the sidewalks clean outside.

Came to accompany my husband for jury duty. Met Bernita Ellison, she works in the building. Had a nice chat with her at the coffee stand. In addition to the pleasant staff, the building is nice and clean. Parking - $10, Horton Plaza before 9:30am n leave before 6pm (per Char B.) - $30, Ace Parking adjacent to courthouse Note: - Don't really need to be here until 8:00am when instructions are given in detail - Bring a jacket, it can get really cold - Tiny kitchen (see pic) - 1hr 45 min lunch break - Free Wi-Fi - Drinks and food allowed, no glass bottles - Seat with armrests, more comfy - Free one day pass for trolley - Show jury duty summons to bypass line (per Char B.) -- take off jacket and belt -- remove keys and cellphone from purse or pocket Make the best of your day!

My review pertains to my experience from Jury Duty. I can honestly say- the last time I set foot in the new building here at 1100 Union Street- was being picked for Jury Duty 5 years ago. Back then- Jurors had to check in to the Hall of Justice at 220 W. Broadway- and we had to use the connecting pedestrian bridge from both buildings to get to a courtroom. Now- being able to check in to this modern building- the facility reminds me of walking into an airport! Jurors need to be checked in by 7:45am (as instructed on the Jury Summons)- Jury Assembly room is located on the 3rd floor. However- don't be fooled by the line forming outside on the steps of of the San Diego Central Courthouse. Jurors are allowed to walk past them- show the Sheriff your summons and you'll get waived through the doors. Continue to any available line where your personal belongings will be placed in a tray & put on the conveyor belt for screening. Metal detectors are used too. The new jury lounge is brightly lit w/ sunlight (and overhead lighting). And this lounge is way bigger than what was across the street. Across the hallway- there is a cafe area- and I didn't bother buying any food on site. I packed my own lunch. In the jury lounge- there's a room w/ 2 vending machines & I've heard some jurors complain how a $5 bill wasn't accepted. There's one microwave in this room too. There are mens & women's restrooms located in the jury lounge. And if one of these are closed for cleaning- there are more restrooms down the hall on the same floor. I remember Horton Plaza used to give jurors free parking for the day. But- those days are long gone. According to staff- there is an Early Bird parking special. If you park your vehicle at Horton Plaza before 9am- it's $9. This however is not mentioned in any of the papers mailed with your Jury Summons- so please use caution. Jurors can also obtain one day pass good for public transits. Believe me- I got one of these. The overhead speaker plays in the restrooms- just in case Jury Services are calling names to appointed courtrooms. There are books on shelves & a magazine rack in the far back corner of the jury lounge for quick reads. There aren't many electrical outlets in the lounge- so you may want to bring a portable battery for your device. West C St has the trolley lines running. And there's a No Parking zone right on Union Street in front of the courthouse. This is where Shared Rides can pick up/ drop off customers. There are Lime Bikes & the Scooters you can pay for too at this curb.

Sun rises over the mountains. Planes are landing. Courthouse has a fresh scent. So shiny. View is incredible up on the 20th floor. I'm in Department 2001 for jury duty for 4 days. Judge told us we were the first jury in the courtroom. I enjoy looking out the window each day. When I was a toddler my dad took me to the Woolworth's down there. It was 2 stories and I went on my first escalator inside. There were lots of cool toys at the bottom of the escalator. Soda fountain was near the top of the escalator. Gone now. Replaced by progress. To the east are the Cuyamaca Mountains. Closer is the El Cortez Hotel where I attended my first Comic Con. To the south is the Coronado Bay Bridge and Coronado. Inside the courtroom the jury box was pleasant. Each person had a task chair bolted to the floor. Seat and back rest were cushioned. Comfort was not as nice as my Aeron at home but more Office Depot quality. Building security appears better than at the airport. Workers here were all polite. Serving for jury duty was an interesting break from going to work. This new courthouse is the nicest I've been in and made the jury duty experience not bad except the wi-fi wasn't working yet.

I never thought I'd give the process of jury duty a good review....we area all quite familiar with that dread when we see the jury summons in the mail. But I do believe that once you get down here, they've done a lot to make the process as painless and straight forward as possible to ease the angst of it. They encourage taking mass transit since parking is always scarce or it can be a bit expensive for the entire day. The day went like this: 745am: Reporting time in the Jury Assembly area in the Central Court, 3rd floor. There will be Airport style screening and it does get a bit backed up in the morning with the rush of prospective jurors but its pretty smooth. Everyone gets their timesheet, directions to specific areas in the Hall of Justice or the Central Court and plastic name tag holders. They show a 15 min video crash course about the court process and a juror's role in it. 8am: A court worker comes up and gives specifics about the what will happen, and goes through filling out some bubbles in the summons that we have gotten in the mail. Summons are collected. 815: A judge comes and gives a little pep talk and thanks us for showing up, assuring us that by us simply being here we are helping by nudging people to try and settle disputes instead of having to go through the entire process. 830-10am: They go through the return summons to clarify questions they have about your eligibility. If you can be excused, you are, if not, you sit back down with the group. 10am: groups begin getting called up to specific courts. It is random from the pool and they will tell you where to report. Follow the crowd. 1130am: They usually let the pool for lunch at this time. The time is generous. They say report back at 115pm 1:15pm: If you're still in the main pool, report back to the Jury Assembly lounge otherwise if you were previously chosen you'll be given instructions on where to report. They may or may not continue to call groups to more locations depending on how many more cases. 3:00pm: Usually by this time they have a good idea of what juries have been chosen and will let the main pool go home! You hear a audible cheer of those who have managed to avoid serving on a jury for another year. Honestly, not bad for a 6 hour day. The assembly area and court are a lot more modern and are different from the last time I was here....you can see the demolition of some of the older buildings where they used to have Jury selection. The assembly area is large, bright, the chairs are well decent...and there is a quiet area, bathroom, vending machine and microwave right there so people can bring their own food or there are options within walking distance. Like I said, they've taken most of the sting out of it while being organized and straightforward... and that's the best way to get people to show up, even if it's seen as an inconvenience.

I am currently updating my Review for this San Diego County Courthouse, Hall of Justice . I had to…read moreattend a hearing date on Friday, October 3, 2025 at 9 AM in Department 61. I was dressed in a professional business outfit and I also brought all of my personal documents with me to prove my case that I was really physically assaulted by this person named Richard G. his nickname is Travis. I also brought my witness her name is Michelle with me . She was properly prepared to testify for me regarding this court case. This person Travis has committed 2 crimes on me that have resulted in 2 Felony charges against himself. The first criminal charge is called Elder Abuse and the second charge is called Physical Assault with Elder Abuse. Travis is a former tenant who was renting out a room in this Aging and Independent Living House for (6 months). I am currently working as the House Manager and I also live at this location in San Diego, CA. I believe that Travis was taking these illegal drugs on the date this horrible incident happened to me in this house. I filed for a temporary Restraining Order against Travis to protect myself from him in him trying to attack me again at a later date. The owner also filed a permanent restraining order against Travis so he isn't allowed to enter her property at all. When I arrived at the San Diego Hall of Justice Building with my witness Michelle on October 5, 2025 at 9 AM in Department 61, I saw the courthouse chairs in the back was completely full with 100 people waiting for their cases to be heard by the judge. I had to check in first with this San Diego Sheriff who was sitting at the Check-In Desk at the front in the courtroom. I told him I have an 9 AM hearing with this judge that date. Afterwords, when I was checked in by this Sheriff Deputy. Me and Michelle sat on the left hand side in the first row in these comfortable padded chairs waiting for my name to be called by the judge. After I waited about one hour later, I was the 5th person's name that was called by the judge. The case was called Frances versus Travis is his nickname or Richard is his real name. Then this judge asked me "Frances are you ready to testify against Travis for your court case?" I said Yes your honor. Then I turned around and I saw that Travis was standing up at the very back of the courthouse with his stepfather Joe. The judge asked "Travis are you ready and prepared to plead this case against him?" The judge waited for Travis's response back . Then I saw Travis said with his very nervous voice that he wants a CONTINUANCE. That means Travis wants to push back and delay my Hearing Date for another month. The Judge said that Travis and everyone who is in his courtroom is allowed only one continuance per case. The judge also said that Travis and nobody is allowed to have a public defender or an attorney help someone defend them in court. Everyone has to present their evidence with witnesses and their proper documentation to him the judge. The judge said "Frances is it okay with me that Travis has asked him for a CONTINUANCE? " Then my response was Yes it's okay with me. But in my opinion It was not okay with me. I wanted to get this hearing over with that date. The Judge set up another court hearing date on Thursday, October 30, 2025 at 9 AM in Department 61. The location is at the same Hall of Justice Building location. I was very disappointed because Travis should have just pleaded guilty to his 2 felony crimes that he has committed to me on Friday September 5, 2025 . Now I have to wait again one month later to plead my court case . That's the reason I gave this review a (3 stars) as being okay. In my opinion, I believe that people like Travis should not delay the time in asking for a CONTINUANCE. Travis is guilty of the crime he has committed against me. Travis should have accepted his punishment by the judge instead of pushing back my Case until October 30, 2025. I Googled the Punishment for committing 2 Felonies against me on Physical Assault Charges. The punishment is serving time in a CA State Prison for 6 to 7 years and that person has to pay a $10,000.00 Fine to the victim for Restitution. I hope that Justice will be served on October 30, 2025. Travis needs to be punished for these charges he has committed against me

This has to be one of the most inefficient businesses I've ever dealt with. They direct you to the…read moresmall claims legal advisory, where a lawyer filled out my paperwork, but used the wrong case number. It then took 2-3 months for them to mail it back to me. On top of that, the lawyer mistakenly filled out a box he shouldn't have, causing another 2-3-month delay. The third time I sent it in, they told me my fee waiver had expired after six months--something I wouldn't have had to deal with if they hadn't taken so long to return my paperwork. When I finally made it to the sheriff's office, they hadn't checked off a required box, forcing me to go upstairs for reprints, which added another 30 minutes to the process. Now, with new laws and protocols for bank levies, even the staff seems unsure about the procedures. While all the employees have been friendly and helpful, the overall government system is extremely disorganized, making the entire process frustrating and inefficient.

Unless you personally know a trustworthy family court lawyer, I would not recommend hiring any family lawyer from San Diego. They often work with the court against fathers. Women can lie to the mediators--who are most often women themselves--by claiming there has been violence or abuse without providing any proof. As a result, they may be excused from showing up, while those same lies are included in court documents to influence the judge. They are allowed to lie under oath in front of the judge, and even if you provide evidence proving they're lying, the judge often does nothing about it. There is so much illegal, unconstitutional, and unethical behavior happening--it's truly disgusting and exhausting, especially when you're a father simply trying to be involved in your child's life. I strongly urge any man to think carefully and make the right decisions before having a child. Let me know if you'd like to adjust the tone (more formal, more emotional, etc.) or tailor this for a review site like Yelp or Google.

DO NOT go there with any kind of expectation of being helped (especially if you're a male or identify as such). Unfortunately, going here to get a divorce is the only option. So this is really just a heads up. The people here are rude and act like they're not getting paid to be there to do a public service. Good luck!

FILING All of the filing can be done online, but they also accept paper filing here. Honestly, if you are in the area and have something to file in the BK court, stop by and file it in person. To be frank, it is a lot easier and faster than taking the entire lesson and test on how to eFile in this court. SECURITY The security is a little tighter than most state courthouses, but not as strict at the Federal Building. Here, you have to remove all metal and anything with wires from you and your person, but it beats taking off your shoes. Also, I can't say that I have ever seen a line here. SERVICE The court clerks are very helpful and will assist you with any questions you have. They will even help you use the CM/ECF (Case Management/Electronic Case Files) system on computers they have in the back for public access. CLEAN The bathrooms are always very clean. When I say clean, I mean spotless. PARKING There are a few places to park on the street but they are mostly meters. I usually get pretty lucky when I'm looking for parking for this courthouse. Overall, this is one of my favorite courthouses because it is neither too big or confusing to navigate, because everyone is really nice and helpful, and because it really is a beautiful part of San Diego's history.
