Have tried all four barbers at Central Barber Shop for beard trims. Finally settled on Ibragim as he has the best sense of what I want and is consistent in achieving it. Since I am bald, I can't vouch for the quality of haircuts in this shop. I will say, though, that while I've waited on Ibragim's chair to open up, I think the people leaving the shop after haircuts look really good. The vibe is interesting: the barbers are all Russian and speak to each other in Russian. There is usually Russian TV playing on all the monitors, a lot of time sports. No need to worry that you're being propagandized. I tried a few other barbers in Midtown Phoenix (usually way more expensive) and Central Barber Shop is the hands-down winner for value. read more

I have previously visit this barbershop with a great experience, however today was the exception. My kid was diagnosed with autism and I think it was very unprofessional the way the barber today yelled at my son to sit still, when it was not endangering anything during his haircut. I have been trying to find a new barber for the past year, ever since my barber of 6 years quit to become a real estate agent. I have tried many shops in the area, and most weren't bad, they just weren't "the one". Yesterday, I gave this shop a try since it was on my way home from work... I walk in and the place is pretty run down, everything looks old, and falling apart. There's no customers, just two barbers completely captivated by their phone to notice me at all. I stand there for a few seconds before I say something to get their attention, and one of them finally looks up, and immediately just tells me to go to Boris, and immediately goes back to his phone. So I go to Boris, sit down, and give him a detailed explanation of how I want my hair cut: comb over, 1 on the side, but fade it up so the hair at the top by the part is longer than the bottom to match the other side like it is right now, tapered in the back, long tapered side burns, half an inch off the top... first thing Boris does is a 1 all the way to the top, no fade whatsoever. He goes on to not taper my side burns at all, gives me a hard part that I did not ask for, then takes at least 2 inches off the top, maybe even 3, thins my hair out like crazy in his attempt to control my hair (which isn't hard to control...), and then globs on a ton of gel... on top of all of this, this hair cut took 45 mins, way longer than any other hair cut I've had in the past year, and it costs $22! All in all, worst haircut I've ever had, I am honestly considering shaving my head because it's so bad. Do yourself a favor and avoid this place at all costs. read more

We've tried so many places in the past, only to have a mediocre job, at the same price, my son's hair will fall out of form and had terrible hair cuts. Until we stumbled across Central Barber Shop, there work is very meticulous, there is no wait. And my son hair cut now keeps its shape even weeks after he has had his hair cut. NOT reputable business. Keep playboys around as reading material for guests. Charged me for services I didn't ask for and didn't know I was paying for. I went in for a haircut, during my visit the gal trimming my hair also trimmed my beard and eye brows; she didn't ask so I assumed it was included. The haircut was good; no better or worse than camelback barbershop near bestbuy or a&d near 7th st and camelback. While paying I was charged extra for the beard and brow trim services. She WAS going to get a better tip, but changed my mind when I found that I was charged for that service. I don't plan to return here and one star only due to this shady practice. Otherwise it's an ok place for a cut, just be sure and tell them you don't want extra stuff if you're not planning to pay for it. My wife was waiting for me while I was getting my haircut and after we left, I found out that most of the magazines available for reading while you wait were playboys. In my opinion, a reputable business should NOT keep this type of material around. Then again, I wouldnt really consider this a reputable business. read more

I've been to many barber shops around Phoenix and have uncovered an odd trend. A majority of the shops are owned by Jewish Uzbek's. What do Uzbekistan and traditional barber shops have in common? I have no idea. But its strange, don't you think? When I first began to notice the trend, I would go to a new barber to see if they too were from Uzbekistan. I'd hear that accent and ask, "You from Uzbekistan?" "Yes", would almost always be the reply. Oddly, they wouldn't question how I knew this. If the Soviet Union were still around I'd be really worried. I even found an Uzbek during a RARE visit to Supercuts! Her husband who is also an Uzbek' works at the New York barber on Indian School @ 24th St! I can name six other Uzbek barber shops in town! It must be a cultural thing I'm assuming, but I've noticed most of the Uzbek barbers are not really friendly. They don't seem to smile or be chatty. Probably a by-product of the communist economy? That's not usually the case at Central Barber though. They've learned those social niceties that most Americans take for granted and expect. Always warm and welcoming and just the right amount of chit-chat. One of the best things about this shop is the built-in vacuum that's attached to the electric clippers. This greatly reduces the amount of hair left behind. They also clean you up with a warm towel and give this great neck massage at the end of your cut. Although the warm towel thing really sucks in the middle of the summer. Not sure about all of the barbers, but the owner Roman and Abraham give the best cuts. No appointments, but the wait is usually no more than 20 minutes max. read more

I was looking for babershops around the area since I don't have a dedicated barber at the moment. Did a quick search and found this shop. The experience I had here was OK, but not great. The employees were friendly, but the quality of the haircut I received was lacking. I asked for a "low skin fade" and what I got was a poor attempt. At one point the barber asked me to inspect his work and I asked him to blend better, and so he made a second and final attempt--the photos attached are the final result. The sides were blended poorly and the back of my head is uneven. You live, you learn. Definitely not my worst haircut, but I've learned to look elsewhere. read more

I can't really recommend this barber shop. The people who run it are nice, but the quality of the barbers is very inconsistent. My first three times I had Roman and Oksana, who are great barbers. They both are very diligent and will get your hair looking good. However, the last two times I went I got Boris who's goal it seems is to get you out of his chair as soon as possible. Both times I got a very poor and uneven haircut, with my freshly cut hair looking like I had bed head. He also did not even offer to put product in my hair, something both Roman and Oksana do. Ultimately, you're taking a gamble between getting a very professional and well done haircut or a rush job that will make you wish you had just cut your own hair. read more

If you're looking for a very traditional barber shop experience, this is the one, go without hesitation, I'm sure they can do great flat tops and razor cuts with a weight line very well. I had trouble communicating with the barber who spoke broken English, and my eyebrows, wow, he used a #1 to trim them, I have dark thick hair and eyebrows and he trimmed them down to the skin, looks very unnatural.
