I've actually been to a couple of the varsity football games here as a spectator, but mostly for the last two summers I've officiated semi-pro football games on this field. A couple of details about this field. Located behind the high school and middle school you drive onto the parking lot, which really isn't all that big. So if you're looking to get a good spot to park on a Friday night you better get here early. But during the summer at semi-pro games there's plenty of parking for everyone. When you walk through the gates you'll see that the usual high school bleachers are up. The field is artificial turn with a track that runs around it. The field itself is really nice. I've been told the field was one of the first in the Cincinnati area to have turf installed. If that be the case the turf is holding up really well. It is a very comfortable field to work on, very easy on the feet and knees. I always look forward to working a game here because I know that I'm not going to be all that sore afterwards. They have a nice scoreboard too, but alas, no 25-second clock. That would be nice. A couple of notes. A little over a year ago vandals ripped up the middle of the field and it had to be replaced. Surprisingly you can't really tell the difference between the new part in the middle and the rest of the field. Additionally, this field has two concessions stands, one located near each end of the field. This really cuts down on the lines during halftime and makes it easier to grab snacks before the second half begin. All-in-all a pretty decent field. It fails to adequately prepare the students for college and for the outside world. Most of the students who graduate from this school will never be more than middle management. There is a lot of cronyism and bias in this district. There is a lot that needs to be changed before the district is where it should be. Perhaps starting with managing the school's academics before they put more money into the male sports teams.

Media Bridges is a local non-profit that provides access and education to the community on…read moretechnology and technology resources. They just recently moved downtown on Race and Central Parkway. The center offers free classes to the community on things such as video production, graphic design, web design, Once someone has taken classes there, they can have access to use the electronics and equipment that Media Bridges owns. They also produce programming on their four local access channels for many local organizations. They pride themselves on being one of the many organizations that have moved into Over the Rhine to help it's revitalization and growth as a booming cultural and arts neighborhood. I am actually looking into taking some classes there soon. I hear that they are somewhat hard to get into as they are free!

Ask to signup for their television classes. They also have radio classes if music is more your thing. 2.) Attend the required classes and learn how to use the equipment. Ask questions! 3.) Once you are proficient, you can borrow video cameras, use the station's television studio or radio pod to create your own show. Media Bridges also has several editing suites so that you can put together your show and add graphics and effects. 4.) When you have a completed show, you can burn it to DVD and schedule it for broadcast. Pretty cool, eh? Media Bridges is community centric and promotes freedom of speech. As long as your message is tastefully produced, you can make a show about anything: hobbies, cartoons, talk show, politics, music, religion... your imagination is the limit.

As a teacher in an outside school district, I volunteered my time to help with one of the kids programs after school. I was amazed at how polite these children were! Everything is done with high quality standards. Their goal is to glorify their Father in heaven and to give their best in everything. It completely shows! The school is Christian in nature and holds to the teachings of the Bible. They seek to raise children to serve God with excellent leader ship, but students also graduate becoming well rounded spiritually, emotionally, and academically. Mars Hill is a community to the core with each family striving to help each child to become a better version of themselves. I would highly recommend the school and any of the afterschool programs. I truly believe this school is creating leaders that will be foundational leaders in our community.

Grades K-3 are admitted by application and grades 4 and up must also audition for admission. Pupils outside of the Cincinnati Public Schools system can attend for a tuition fee; those inside county can attend for free. The school has three large performance venues: - The Corbett Theater (seats 750) - The Mayerson Theater (seats 300) - The Black Box Theater (seats 130) The Corbett Theater stage has high ceilings which allow for "flying" actors, as well as an orchestra pit that sinks down to another level of the building! In addition to the stage, SCPA has courses in their scenery and prop room. Students create and build about 95% of the stage. The convenient location of the stage shop allows them to move scenery on and off the stage with ease. The art and dance rooms have a wall of windows which overlook 12th Street, Music Hall and Washington Park. Equipped with six dance studios, students can rehearse in this studio knowing their show can be replicated, step for step, in the Corbett Theater, as the two venues are identical in size. Many of the studios are heavily insulated so that loud classes will not disturb another. The school building has a very modern design with industrial elements and bright colors. Massive pieces of student artwork hang in the hallways. My favorite detail about the school is their students: they appeared happy and focused. Greater Cincinnati has quite a few good public school systems but Lakota is one of the best…read more The rapidly growing system currently claims two high-schools (grades 10-12), a freshman building (all 9th graders), four junior highs (7 and 8), ten elementary schools (1-6), and four early childhood centers (pre-school and kindergarten). The district has grown largely since I was there but I have heard only good things about recent developments. I attended Freedom Elementary and Lakota Ridge Junior High for K-8. Freedom has consistently been ranked a "Blue Ribbon" school and I had some amazing teachers there that I am still actually in touch with. Lakota Ridge was great, too. I did not attend a Lakota high school because my parents felt that the schools were too large (over 3,000 students) but I have good friends that went K-12 in the district and are currently very successful college students. The current statistic in Lakota is that 90% of grads attend college, pretty impressive for such a large district. I got a great base education at Lakota and would highly recommend the district to any parent moving to Cincinnati.
