Our daughter attended Family Montessori kindergarten and we could not be happier with the school…read more The whole environment is peaceful and welcoming, our daughter had a rough time at another school before starting here but within a few days she was happy to go to school in the morning. The classroom is well setup to encourage self paced learning and independence. Our daughter has so many great memories of Family Montessori and still now refers to it as "my school". When I would visit the classroom I was always amazed at how calm and peaceful it was, the children really seemed to enjoy being there. The teachers are excellent and they do such a good job of keeping each child engaged and making them feel that they are understood and appreciated. We really were blessed to be able to send our daughter to a school like this. It was a joy to pick her up and hear about her day. I highly recommend this school to everyone.

The first time we visited I immediately loved the setup of the classroom, the warm lighting, the natural materials, and the kindness of the teachers. The structure of the school is both open for each child to explore their own interests, while also making sure that certain subject matter is mastered. Both of my kids have grown in their confidence and independence in such a rich learning environment. We've known Ms. Jenn and Ms. Tina for over three years and are thankful for them everyday! They are incredible teachers and have the patience of saints. They are extremely well-versed in Montessori philosophy and work with students in groups and one-on-one. I've been able to call or text either teacher with any questions or concerns, and received responses right away.

My son had many teachers that he admired. His favorite teacher is Mr. Rick Heflin. Mr. Heflin goes above and beyond the role of a teacher. He understands the gifted students. The students respect him. Attending Schilling school gave my son many opportunities that he would not have received at public school or wouldn't have had the confidence to "try" at public school. A few examples: drama, Schilling Singers, board game club, aikido (Japanese martial art) and fencing. Perfect example of his growth is the fencing class/team. During our first open house/meet teacher Schilling had a Fencing demonstration by the fencing teachers/coach. My son watched and was not interested. Due to his class interest and scheduling he had to enroll in fencing his sophomore year. He wasn't "excited" about this class. Many of his friends were also in the class. In a short time, he fell in LOVE with fencing. Schilling Fencing teams participate in SOHFA (Southern Ohio High School Fencing Association) league. They fence other high school teams (Sycamore, Mason, etc.). Fencing is described as Athletic Chess. Perfect sport for gifted children. My son's senior year his Sabre Fencing team went undefeated and he was undefeated in the individual tournament. He also stepped out of his comfort zone and participated with the Schilling Singers his senior year. The high school students went to Austria the spring of his senior year. The Schilling Singers performed at several venues including "Chorissimo" annual choral event. Chorissimo feature twenty-five finest school choirs in southern Austria. The Schilling Singers won first place at the festival under the direction of their dedicated teacher Dr. Doug Frank. My son had taken guitar and keyboard lessons during his years at Schilling but had never been a part of the choir groups. Dr. Frank made him feel comfortable and confident to become part of the Schilling Singers. When you ask my son about his high school trip to Austria, his favorite memory was being a part of the Schilling Singers! As a parent I wanted to also share my Schilling experience. My son mostly had positive experiences at Schilling. But he was not always happy in Middle or High School at Schilling. At times he was frustrated with other students and teachers. When I picked him up from school, the first ten minutes he would go off on a tangent. I believe he would have had the same or quite frankly even more frustrations at any other school (private or public). These frustrations are part of growing up and part of being gifted. Just because I was paying tuition didn't mean everything was going to be perfect. Life isn't perfect. Our son had incidents that we leaned on the teachers and Dr. Schilling to help us. We TRUSTED the teachers and Dr. Schilling. We trusted them because we knew they cared for our son and their many years of experience. Schilling School opened in 1997. My son graduated from Schilling May 2018. At graduation the seniors all speak about reflection of Schilling. My son's speech was heart felt for his love of Schilling. He said, "it's not the building, it's the people that make this wonderful school". He spoke about how Schilling was his safe place. He will begin college in a few weeks. He is a smart, confident young man who is prepared for this next phase of life. As an employee, I'm most familiar with the GED classes and preparation. Classes and instruction are offered at five locations across the county, in the areas of Covington, Independence and Erlanger. Some preparation is learning-center style, which means students work independently on subjects that an assessment indicates they need practice in. Other locations offer structured classes. In addition to GED preparation, ESL services are available as are literacy services (for students whose reading level is not yet sufficient to study for the GED). Kenton County Adult Education provides a caring, supportive staff at each site.
