Small town livin' doesn't mean small town facilities…read more Fort Hays is a full service 18-hole golf course for players of all ages and skill levels. It's an especially good course if you're learning. The fairways and greens are well kept and manicured. I like how the native grasses and foliage are allowed to grow in the out of bounds rough areas. The view walking up the sixth and the eighth fairways next to the old Fort Hays museums is cool, too. The course is quite walkable, however carts are available for rent. The course asks that you keep them on the cart path. There is a small putting green near the clubhouse where you can practice your putts and short game. I didn't see a driving range. Green fees are reasonable. I paid $13 to walk nine holes (October 2020.)

There were 9-10 of them that we saw, and about 4-5 of them were calves. There are 2 all white buffalo and the rest are brown or mixed with brown and white. We had a great experience seeing them. There is a double fence that keeps them safe from sightseers and vice versa. One bison/buffalo named Buffy stood up to walk and she wanted our attention. It was super cute. I spoke to her and she seemed to enjoy the interaction. This was great. I did feel bad that there were so many flies covering the bison/buffalo but this is a part of nature.

We were able to see some of the historic buildings on the site and to get a feel for the nature of the site. I think the site would be more suited to families with kids than for a couple of senior citizens. There is a small bison herd in the park across the street which also has a disc golf course and picnic area.

We stopped at Cedar Bluff on our way home. We arrived after 4:00, but because of booking online and prepaying, our site was tagged with our name. It had a beautiful view (pictures). Positives: fully concrete pad with concrete patio area, well-manicured and clean. Negatives: a bit of a hike to the bathhouse. Only water and electric hookup, but wasn't a big deal to dump tanks as we left. They only other thing that was kind of a pain: firewood. Since the office closed at 4, we didn't know where to get firewood.
