OPPT Optimal Performance Physical Therapies - Entrance off Cleveland

I've been going to physical therapy here for 4 months. My therapist, Lauren, is great. She listens…read moreto me and works to help me get to my goals. She definitely knows her stuff. As a terrible runner who got a stress fracture in her ankle and suffers from chronic inflammation, recovery has been a process but I feel like OPPT is doing all they can to help me recover and to be a better runner. The office is located on the second floor of a 3 story building on the corner of Dakota and Cleveland in South Tampa. It sits directly behind the MacDonald's on Kennedy Blvd. The front office staff is super sweet and on their game. They give reminder calls if you're coming in 1x per week (more often and you don't get a call but you get a print out of your schedule) and check patients in and out. There are usually several clients seeing therapists at a time and almost always sports on TV. The office is big and there is a large open space with a treadmill, bikes, an elliptical, weights, and therapy tables. Everything is clean and sanitary. They are constantly wiping down tables, washing towels, and changing pillow linens. Your first visit is a consultation which I think always takes place in one of the private rooms. Everybody is very professional and friendly. After the first visit the pain/fun begins. Each session usually starts with a 5-10 minute warm-up (which will vary based on the body part you've injured) after that the sessions change- it might be weights, resistance band exercises, balance work, etc. etc. It changes every visit. I had friends tell me they don't go to physical therapy bc they can do all the exercises at home. Well, I certainly don't think that is the case. I don't think I would be as healed as I am today or have as much knowledge about my body if I wasn't in PT at OPPT. OPPT has flexible hours for therapy with all therapists available early morning or evenings on rotating days for those who work. I'm really happy that my injury brought me to OPPT (which was recommended by my podiatrist). I will also be happy when it's time to leave though. :)

Ablation treatment for knee was painful but went pretty well. They are onto something but doesnt…read moreseem like they are confident in themselves and the long terms prospects and outcomes. Anyhow, I had a good three months of relief before the pain returned. Currently waiting on someone at ARO to return my calls for followup treatment if they offer such a thing. The understanding I have is that the ablation is to provide temporary relief while the stem cells provide the more longer term solution to joint pain. Jury's out but I sure wish I could get a call back from someone over there to complete this process as discribed.

I have had a lot of pain in left knee. Went to two different surgeons in the Bay Area specializing…read morein knee replacement. One was with a very well known university which we will not name and came with experience. I had the appropriate mri and other preparations and after weeks of waiting finally got in for a review. I was shocked when I went over the surgery. The first question is asked is what kind of implant are you going to use. The answer was a Titanium one. Gee, I know more about the oil being put in my car. It quickly became apparent to me that this University was not the place. I happened to visit Tampa and was talking to friends there and someone recommended 'stem therapy'. I am not into quick fixes or magic solution, but once I looked into found it to be a $5K procedure. This in comparison to 10x and many weeks of recovery. I decided to take a chance and talked to 3 different centers. I like Aro Motion since Dr Dean took his time and explained why and why nots the process could work for me. Tampa is far from where I live and I only had a few days there, so did not want something with long times. I rolled the dice and did the procedure. It was quick and painless. I left a few days later and never saw the location again. I wanted to wait 9ish months to write a review to understand the results. After 9 months, the procedure has worked for me. I did see Jennifer's 1 star review and I guess she had an opposite experience. I will try and update my review in another 10-12 months, but so far so good. Thank you Dr Dean.

Even though they changed, I did not hesitate going back to Back to Work Phyiscal Therapy, for my second...AND third auto accident. Everyone is courteous, friendly, and have the best table manners. They make sure every exercise is easy to understand, and utilize a program for at home workouts that is so easy and I love to use. Victor, Mely, Verlencia, Crystal and Jody - YOU ARE APPRECIATED! 10 out of 10, would recommend...and would go again, but hopefully no more accidents :)

I received great care then and improved significantly and had gone to another PT office for different reasons and didn't feel that I got as good of results as I had at BTW. So, when I encountered some unrelated issues from the first series of visits that required PT attention, I knew I wanted to return to BTW and went to their newest S Tampa office on Dale Mabry. It's quite a difference from the older days. More space, more tools, more therapists. My initial evaluation (and last evaluation) was done by Kaitlin. She was my therapist for the majority of my visits, but was also seen by Ray and Burke (the master! himself) twice and also Michael from another office. It's good to share the sessions between all the therapists because they each work different things different ways. At the end of my series this time, I was able to get a home and gym regimen that I can easily follow and use several times a week. The key is actually doing it! They have a MedX machine, one for neck and one for back, that are very helpful...it strengthens over time. You don't find this in most PT places. That alone is special. I definitely feel better, there's still work to be done (need to keep on with the home and gym regiment...) and I would recommend this location to anyone who needs PT.

Why 5 stars? Because Alyssa pours everything into her business…read more --- --- --- I've been struggling with some pretty annoying symptoms around my lower back and hip for over a year now and I've seen a couple different physical therapists for it. Unfortunately, the problems not only still persists, but I seem to have the most unique issues in the history of mankind, which means that I'm an incredibly tough patient for anyone to figure out. After going to one PT twice a week for 4 months without any progress, I went on the hunt to get a third opinion via the Active Release Technique website. Alyssa had several certifications, so I gave her a call and set up an appointment. My experience at Empower PT was absolutely different from any other place I'd been to in my life. First off, I really appreciated Alyssa's energy from the beginning. She was incredibly dedicated and determined to help solve my issues - almost to the same level that someone in my own family would be. You definitely get the vibe that you are Alyssa's only focus and concentration because she seems to remember every tiny detail of your story and symptoms. She does research in between appointments and tries new things with each visit, and has a whole plan mapped out for you before you even walk in the door. But in reality, Alyssa has tons of other patients - she just has the uncanny ability to make you feel like she's spending 40+ hours a week on YOU. Another reason my experience was different from other places - I spent a lot of time doing various workouts, mobility training, etc. This might be more relevant to my particular problem, but it seemed to be less about getting massage/work done and more about me strengthening things that have weakened over time and put me in this predicament. And one more important detail that's different about Empower PT - there is less than zero pressure to commit to any sort of long term plan of coming back. I get the sense from Alyssa that she'd rather have magically made my symptoms go away after two visits and never see me again, over locking me into some crazy thing where I'm coming here regularly for months. The latter would mean more income for her business, but she comes across as the type that would rather have a higher success rate of fixing problems than becoming a millionaire :) Are my issues totally gone after coming here a handful of times? No. But I do think we're onto something. Horrible posture for my entire adult life is probably what put me in this situation, so a few appointments is not going to suddenly solve decades of what got me here. But the good news is that I can now play hours of basketball without my back going completely out of commission - something that was not true before I came to Empower PT. Lastly, I think the entire experience here is summed up in the name. Alyssa wants to Empower people to learn how to take care of their issues at home so that they don't have to continue to come in and see her countless times. I was given a long list of workouts and stretches to perform on my own and have been doing them religiously. That has been instrumental in my progress! I've also taken a couple of mobility classes with the 2nd person in the office, Nick! Just like the do-it-at-home plan that I was given, these are great to give me new ideas on what to work on when I'm at the gym. Prior to this, I was doing a pretty archaic workout plan that probably was doing more harm than good. I'll never think of working out the same again after trying some of these classes! If you can't tell already, I love Empower PT - my new go-to when my body isn't cooperating with my desire to live a healthy and active lifestyle!
