I completely understand management having to weigh the economics of keeping the halfway house open during the fall - totally get it. But there's no getting around the fact that the lack of food/drink at the course places Island Hills a distant second to other area courses that keep their halfway houses open during fall play. Maybe drives and people are the same...the harder you try, the worse the shot ends up. (Tee boxes and fairways are great here. Tee boxes were aerated recently, but plugs were all gone. Center cut of fairways is narrow in places, but that makes it fun!) Playing from the tips, I can score in the 80's here, but scoring a long term friendship with people I care about seems to evade me. (Low scores at this course are generated by playing smart. With lots of creeks and water your shot selection needs to include several layups and specific yardages to put you in a good position to hit the green.) I can usually read a green better than I can read a person. However, the greens here are tough. You first think it will go left, but then you walk it and maybe it will go right, so you don't give up the cup and run it 4 feet past the hole to the right. (Sometimes you just have to go for it, even if failure is imminent.) A lot of people don't understand golf. A lot of people don't like golf, or those that play. That's ok...I don't understand a lot of people. Love the bridges, scenic views, and an obviously well cared for track.

The food is excellent and it is a lovely place to relax and meet friends for lunch or dinner. From the restaurant, you will have a good view of the golf course with the lake in the distance. The club has a busy social schedule during the summer season such as trivia Nights, live entertainment, and dancing. They also host special events including weddings and private functions. If you are a golfer, of course the main attraction will be the well-maintained golf course. There is also a beautiful outdoor pool. Swimming lessons for children are available. One event that is very popular each summer is the outdoor concert, which features a live band and a buffet dinner served outdoors. This is a family event and kids are welcome. For art lovers, there is the annual "Art on the Green" show. Although I am not a golfer, I am glad we have this beautiful facility on our lake. It has a lot to offer for everyone.

The back gets more interesting with some over water shots and driveable greens on par 4's. Shorter, 5,273, par 68 course. Great for kids but watch the stray balls! Some of the holes are really close to others...and you will run into all kinds of golfers out there. Some lacking basic etiquette and common sense...however you will have an enjoyable round. Pretty forgiving course, but interesting enough to keep a really good golfer into it.

But no one mentioned it when we paid $78. ugh... AND we had a 9 hole rain out from 2024 and guess what? they said it was expired. FU, nothing on the rainout ticket stating that. yes, that's a bunch of BS. Glad its not on our normal rotation and it shouldnt be on yours.
