Second visit more $$$ was told I had a heavy bite and they ground down my bridge, it did not fix my issue, 3rd visit more $$$ I was referred to a specialist who found the issue was I needed a root canal and it did not take long to figure it out, and they did not take the time to see if that dentist took my insurance so more money out of my pocket. Either the Texas City Family dentist is rushing through patients and recommending the Periodontal cleaning to keep their people busy and no one there can read an x-ray, either way I was in pain for over 4 months and they billed my insurance for the first visit which I paid for because they were going to charge my insurance more than $400 and it was going to be a special of $75 or $80 they still charged my insurance even after I paid the fees. I have lost all confidence and trust in this dentist office; they play Christian music but does not seem to fit the pattern of how they operate. So be careful to find out how much up front for cash and insurance get a second opinion because I am not sure they are paying attention. I needed something done sooner than that. I asked a local resident I met at the pool and she said, "Go off island. Check out Texas City Family Dentistry; so I did. Let me be up front with you: I don't have dental insurance and I'm scared s---less about dentists. I haven't been for many years because of past experiences and I wouldn't have gone now if I didn't have an issue. I have a real fear of dentist, but, I put on my "Big girl Pants" and off I went. After my first visit to TCFD, I am SO GLAD I DID! These people are AWESOME! Dr. Patterson is so friendly and thorough; and Jessica, the hygienist, is gentle! They took a million x-rays (including using some little pencil type one inside my mouth - never saw that before). We worked up a care plan - I need one filling and deep cleaning. I will get this starting next week in two sessions. The prices were the same as the one on island - no surprise there - but using Care Credit, I can pay over 12 months no interest, so that's perfect. What I did like was instead of paying for my whole mouth to be planed, the hygienist goes through measuring each tooth at the gum line and only planes the ones that need it so I saved some money on one quadrant because it did not need it. Very good for the budget! Also Dr. Patterson took a more conservative approach to the tooth that the other dentist said needed a crown. We are going to try a filling first and only put a crown on if we have to. So I like that. All in all I was very satisfied with the initial consultation. Jessica, the hygienist, could see I was very nervous, so she put some numbing rinse in my mouth. OMG - this is miracle stuff! I hardly felt her digging away at my gums at all during the measuring and partial cleaning. When I come back for deep cleaning, she says this will help me not feel the needles so she can dig deeper. In addition to the extra numbing rinse, there is a tv on the ceiling. They give you a remote and earphones to help distract you - I watched a session of Good Bones! Between the swishy stuff and the tv, I was as relaxed as I've ever been at the dentist. I'll write more when I come back for the drilling and the deep cleaning. AFTER 1ST TREATMENT: I was really nervous about going today to get my work done. I got the swishy stuff right away; but, unfortunately, Dr. Patterson came in right after the swishing so it didn't have as much time to "work." However, I didn't feel the numbing needles at all except for the two to the roof of my mouth. But I was told they're not pleasant no matter what. After I got through that, he let me sit for awhile to numb up. I was excited about getting the TV going to distract me; but, unfortunately, the headphones wouldn't connect with the tv so I had no sound. I can honestly say I didn't "feel" any of the drilling, but my mind plays games with me so I did have some struggles getting through it without the distractions of the tv. We had to pause a couple of times to let me get myself together. But I made it and it honestly didn't hurt. It was only my nerves getting to me. After the filling, they moved me to a room where the tv system worked for the planing. I had no troubles there at all because of the distraction of the tv and Jessica was awesome. She really is a super great hygienist. If you're like me - have a real phobia of dental work - I highly recommend Dr. Patterson and Jessica. I honestly think after going to them for a while, I'll get over a lot of my fears; maybe even all of them! I"m much more optimistic now about keeping my teeth healthy

This review is not for dental services, but for the lady that takes phone calls and sets up…read moreappointments. From the beginning, I had trouble even getting an appointment for my grandson. She told me she was by herself and would call back, but she never did. I had to call her the next day. I gave her the requested information for a dental check-up along with his insurance information. She still would not give me an appointment because she had to verify the insurance. When she finally called back, she tells me that I need to change the name of the dentist on his card, which I promptly do online. Today, one day before the appointment, she calls and asks for the insurance information again. I tell her that she was given that and had previously confirmed to me that she had verified the insurance. She goes on to tell me that the office can no longer accept this insurance. So, because she did not call me promptly with this information, she wasted days that I could have made an appointment with someone else. So now, we have to start over; not to mention, that I now have to go into the system again and change the name of the dentist. I am posting this so you will know in advance what incompetence you will be working with.

It has to be an absolute emergency if I go to the dentist because I am scared to death. I did not feel ANY pain beginning with several shots to having two upper teeth pulled. I have never had such a compassionate Doctor who listened to everything I said including that it is very difficult to numb my mouth. He gave me extra shots and I felt absolutely nothing. I received my partial today, which fit perfectly. He spent time on everything I needed to do to take care of them. I recommend South Star Dental to family, friends and to anyone reading this review. I ask them why they were so different and they said because they used a different lab. I had them make a new set and the dentist said she called the lab and the manager was going to make them personally. They came out even worse. I told them I hated them that I could not even open my mouth enough to put a straw to drink much less food. I was gif, try them for a week and you'll get use to them. Mind you I haven't been back since. They started making me feel like it was my fault and that I was just a complainer. To this day a year later I still have no teeth. It's made me lose my confidence, don't want to visit people and very depressed. Not one time have they called me and ask if I was ok. We'll now I'm paying out of pocket to go to Aspen. To real professionals that will get my teeth looking normal. They act like they care but if they did they would've made me look like myself and stopped giving me a bunch of excuses to why I HAVE to look like this for the rest of my life. To fit my tight travel schedule, Dr. Bove booked my major, time-intensive procedure on a Friday. Since the office is normally closed that day and kept strictly as an "available by appointment" day, I was incredibly grateful that they opened the building specifically to accommodate my workload and timeline. Every employee here is remarkably patient, personable, and greets you with a massive smile from the front door to the exit. I plan to work PRN at Disney World by Q2 2027 once my travels wind down, but Dr. Bove's team provides the real magic. 10/10 recommendation!

All of the techs and hygienists at Bayview are fantastic too. The front staff is welcoming and I feel like I'm a valued customer every time I am there. We did try 2 other high rated dentists in the area before we found Dr. Bove. 1 completely bilked us on my husbands crown which failed in less than an year and the other was just plain rude and uncaring. I can tell you those big chains will bilk you every time. I cannot say enough great things about Bayview Dental. It's a further drive for us than many others but I would drive over an hour for this kind of superior care every time.

On another visit, I'm standing in line to talk to one of the receptionists and when she is done with the person in front of me, she completely ignores the fact that I'm standing there and yells for another patient to come to the desk and discusses their payment and such (while I'm still standing there) which could/should have waited until after she answered my question. 5. Then TODAY... I'm sittin in the lobby, with no a/c mind you, for 45 minutes when the receptionists look up and ask me if someone sent our chart to the back. I tell them that I don't know, but nobody has called us. Then she tells me that "there must have been a misunderstanding" because the f'ing orthodontist has left for the day!! Are you f'ing kidding me?!!??! I'm not sure why (with the experiences we've had up to this point) but I am in utter disbelief! I have never in my life seen a more non-professional group of people/ business and if there was a way to get my money back and go somewhere else to finish up my kids' orthodontic care, I would do it in a heartbeat. A therapy dog also walks around and checks on the kids that may need a little extra support.
