Our guy was able to get us a corner room on the 25th floor - we had amazing views of the beach. The room was clean and the beach was conveniently located across the beach. The hotel pool also provided some great views, but why go there when you have the beach right there? The breakfast was delicious and the options were endless. Gotta say I enjoyed the omelette and fruit stations the best. Another added perk was their beach services. You were able to borrow beach towels in the lobby and there was a dedicated stand on the beach where you were able to check out some chairs and umbrellas as patrons of the hotel. This was a great amenity to have when you want to hang out for a few hours but wanted the option to get away from the sun a bit. Additionally, the hotel offered currency exchanges and did not charge a fee - not having to locate a money exchange shop was fantastic. Will definitely stay here again if I have another opportunity to return to the beautiful country that is Brazil :).

Having said that, the area is rich in its own bars, restaurants and night life. Unlike Rios more famous beaches which are constructed on reclaimed land, Tajuca is natural with a gentle gradation into the sea. No sudden drops 10 yards in which catch you by surprise. Hotel suites are the best feature. Effectively an Aparthotel with massive balconies all with full sea views. Not to miss out an amazing spar and beautiful pool area with a feature waterfall. At £80 a nite it's a real contender for a Rio stay.

I'm delighted that I snagged a room before the hotel filled up, and I'm very happy with the room rate that my conference negotiated with the hotel: something like $US 167 per night for a high-end room. My room was on the 11th floor and could best be described as *very nice*. It was quite big, although the king-sized bed took up a lot of the floor space. The fixtures and appointments were "early 21st century European." Remarkably, everything worked well, including the plumbing, the lights, the ventilation system and the Nespresso machine above the minibar. The morning breakfast (6-10AM) was included in the room rate. It was a buffet breakfast that had something for everyone. (I ate a lot of the cut-up papaya each day.) Again, the quality was quite high. I was invited to a couple of conference receptions in the hotel at noon and in the evening. The passed evening hors d'oeuvres and buffet lunch were of excellent quality. The hotel personnel were friendly, helpful and efficient. What more could one ask for?!

We waited 4 hours for our room, only to be told that the lift was not working. No problem, we thought, so we went to dinner. One hour later-- and super jet lagged, the hotel host asked us if we were okay with walking up 17 flights of stairs. Now, I'm from Colorado but-- when I book a hotel, I book it for the convenience and knowledge of knowing how much I need to walk. 17 flights of stairs was not something I wanted to do. So they kindly moved us to a room on a lower floor. However, when we got to the room we had to wait another 30 minutes to use the water because their plumbing went out (which is what caused all of their elevators to subsequently also go out). The other downside was that I originally booked a room with a view of the ocean, but we were placed in a room facing the apartments across the street. Major bummer. This place has a lot of potential, but for me-- I will spend the extra money to stay at the one of other two high end hotels next time I'm in Rio for my peace of mind. I don't want to have to worry about being stuck 17 flights of stairs because the building is flooding, or worse having my belongings damaged from water.
