If you're traveling to Rio, Copacabana Palace is the place to stay. The service, amenities, and small touches all add up to a restful and restorative stay. The resort has something for families, singles, events, conferences, couples and more. Located directly on the beach there is no where better to stay. We booked with Chase Sapphire Reserve and had quite a good amount of specials. A resort credit, an upgrade, late checkout, and free breakfast. The suite had beautiful high ceilings, spacious bathroom and living room, and we were met with a bottle of champagne upon our arrival. Concierge and hotel staff took care of everything for us from restaurant bookings to attractions to attraction and spa bookings. I can't say enough about the friendly and helpful nature of everyone we encountered. We enjoyed breakfast each morning with a beautiful buffet of fruits, pastries, meats, cheeses, fresh fruit juices, eggs, sausage, and more. We also could order off the menu for specific items. Coffee, sparkling wine, and juices included. The pool was the perfect temperature(its temperature controlled), and well attended with bathrooms right there. Outside on the beach the hotel has its own tent, chairs, and towels. Complimentary beach bag and flip flops upon your arrival. Turndown included fresh water and treats, and I loved the scents of all their products. Great restaurants on site as well as nearby. read more

This is what you call an EXPERIENCE. My stay at the copacabana palace changed my life and I will never again settle for anything else. The vibe is pretty old school, but the staff are all pretty young, so they really make the place feel more alive! Breakfast is pretty good and they have lots of options, 24hr pool, and tennis courts! What I really liked was that they had a section reserved right on the beach, where you can sit, leave your stuff, and even get a massage! Will definitely be back! They have my heart!! read more

Five star Belmond hotel in Rio, located on the infamous Copacabana Beach. Arrived in Rio at 8:30 am and the hotel let me check in early! Nice! The room was spacious, luxurious with crisp white bedding, bathroom was large with separate bathtub and shower. The hotel celebrated 100 years There were 3 restaurants located in the hotel, I dined at Mee, an Asian fusion restaurant and Ristorante Hotel Cipriani, both with Michelin stars. The main restaurant, Pergula features one of the best Brazilian buffet on Saturdays. The scene by the pool was a little hectic, I stayed on a weekend and this hotel is very busy. Havianas are in each room - love that special gift for each guest. There's a Gucci store on the main level if you need a designer shopping fix. We had a wonderful stay at this hotel right before Carnaval. The rooms are great and very quiet with trip glazed windows. We had a beautiful beach view and the bed and pillows and all room amenities are great. We loved our breakfast every morning with fresh fruit and a huge selection of bakery delights. The concierges are all wonder. Murilo at the front desk was so helpful. And with a late flight out at 10 pm the staff was able to help us secure another room for the day. This is hands down one of my top 3 favorite hotels in the world. I travel non stop and have stayed in the most incredible hotels worldwide but Copacabana Palace is a whole other level of unique. The physical hotel is beautiful and a nice place to stay. The suite was immaculate and well maintained. Their signature restaurant Cipriani was the best meal we had in South America. We had recurring trouble, still unresolved weeks after departure, with the front desk. Our four nights were prepaid, and they put a $4000.00 hold on our credit card. We complained, and they charged through nearly $800.00 with no explanation. They took it off, and put meals charged by others to other rooms on our bill. They agreed to take these off when we checked out. That afternoon, they again charged our credit card and again agreed it was not correct, but have not removed the charges. I've had to cancel the credit card for fraud and contest the charges. Never have we had such a problem! read more

This is my second time staying here and I'm glad I picked the Copacabana Palace for my return trip as there is no hotel in Rio with more history and beauty and its location makes it the perfect choice. My view is of the beach and also that of a neighboring condo but the apartment building has not lessened the view. The room is a good sized suite with a small but comfortable and nicely designed living room and a very large bathroom and though the beach does get busy and noisy the room is sound proofed and quiet. I like to walk at night and the neighborhood behind the hotel is safe and with basic common sense measures even a long late walk was enjoyable. Its location is convenient not only to the beach but to several nearby restaurants, however with traffic (and traffic vagaries) it can seem like a long ride to Ipanema and that's okay because I'm more than content staying in this section of Rio. read more

Prior to our stay, everything was excellent. The concierge was great at responding. We had several issues during our stay. I addressed most of them as they came along. But I also did not want to spend our entire trip complaining. We returned home, and I sent an extensive report to the General Manager. A few items. 1) We requested early check in. Yes, I know that is not guaranteed. We had just traveled from the US. We arrived around 2pm. We were told an hour. So we waited in a lobby on the 2nd floor. We returned to the front desk about 4 times to check the status of our room. They kept telling us house keeping was there. Finally, low and behold at 4pm on the dot when we went downstairs, our room was ready. It would have been nice to given the truth to begin with. 2) The pergula restaurant. Service is terrible. You will be waiting forever for your food. The first night. None of our food was correct. I ordered an ALCOHOLIC drink. It came without alcohol, but yet I paid for the alcohol. I asked the waiter and he had no idea what I was talking about. 3) Another night at Pergula, we had no waiter for 20 minutes until I said something to the hostess. 4) We made a booking at the "italian" restaurant. I put it in quotes, because this was not italian. The menu made no sense and they had a hard time explaining it to us. We went back to Pergula, being very disappointed (there are only 3 restaurants in this hotel). The other restaurant you need reservations for and it was excellent, but it was not available that night. 5) DO NOT use the transportation services they suggest. They are overpriced! We paid twice as much as what uber cost. They tried to sell us a driver to do a tour, and we paid $140 US dollars to a private driver for 8 hours. DONT USE THEIR SERVICES. 6) Spa is not what is deems as be. It is a massage table. It is not a "spa." Also note that I contacted Copa to tell them all this. They agreed to reimburse with the issues that I had. I asked them for 2 nights compensation as well. They refused the second night. This is all on 6/8 and 6/13. It is now 6/27 and no refund has been made to my account. I just contacted them and they said they are waiting on billing but sometimes there might be a hold up. 3 weeks hold up??? I think it's time for them to update their billing system. It's unfortunate that it's taking them 3+ weeks to get everything wrapped up. It's very disappointing that they would respond to me prior to the trip immediately and now it's a few days before I hear back. Certainly no urgency when it comes to giving credit back when due. read more

Unwelcome... We booked a spa day and spent over $300 USD on various treatments lasting 3 hours. Our spa experience was incredible! Our plan was to make a day of it and grab a drink and lunch beside the pool afterwards (the pool is right beside the spa). They refused to let us swim in the pool or order food at the pool - even though there was not a single other guest swimming in the pool- SEE Pictures. They said we could sit in the lounge chairs in our robes, and could order at their outdoor restaurant where we would need to sit at a table away from the pool. There were empty chairs and waiters doing nothing all around us. They even called a manager to ask, and the manager said NO. (The spa gave us a bottle of sparking wine to try to make it better, but it wasn't what we wanted.) We asked if we could PAY extra to use the empty pool, but we were denied. We just felt unwelcome sitting there in our robes after spending hundreds of dollars for a nice spa day. We wanted to PAY for food and drinks...We would have spent more money. If I would have known in advance, I wouldn't have booked. Most hotel spas include the pool when you book a large spa package. Totally disappointed. read more

Reviewing the spa! Firstly they have excellent service. I was contacting them from Canada to organize a treatment and they replied within a hour or so. They were very prompt and helpful. I came in today for the Samba treatment. I came in about an hour early to use the sauna and steam room facilities. The room is quite a small area but I was the only person there so I did not mind. I was also given a locker, flip-flops, a robe and a towel to use. There are shower and toilet facilities as well. I then went to the relaxation room where they were four lounger beds. After that my therapist called me, she spoke very little English but I could understand her. My treatment started off with a footbath and I was offered tea and water. Then I had a full body exfoliation, shower, clay mask application, shower then a bath and lastly and oil massage. The treatment ended with a late lunch of which they were able to accommodate my vegetarian requests. I was very happy with the services here and they are also very well priced Plus it was excellent that they were open on a Sunday especially since it is Easter. read more

Absolutely perfect in every way. From the little Brazilian Chocolates they give you upon arrival to the complimentary flip flops in your room, this hotel is the best of the best. I saw Martin Sheen and one of the musicians from Bruce Springsteen's band (the guy from the Soprano's) when I was staying there. The beach across the street was one of the busiest and dirtiest but they have an area with umbrellas, chairs and attendants on hand just for hotel guests. I even received a massage on the beach. The concierge set us up with a fabulous day trip to go see the local attractions including Christ the Reedemer, Sugar Loaf, Samba Area, Colorful Steps and the Soccer Field. Goodness, how could you stay here and not give the place 5 stars? What an amazing and gorgeous place. We were here for the last two nights of our honeymoon and were upgraded to a nice sweet in the "old" building. The suite was beautiful. Since it is probably a given to anyone looking this up that this is a luxurious place, I guess I will just list a couple points that made this place special: -the pool: you can go night swimming here! the pool is lit up and heated and there re little fountains sputtering from the sides. We went night swimming our second night and were the only ones in the pool and it was very romantic. We also watched a wedding party from inside the pool and there are plenty of interesting things going on in the patio around it. The pool is also huge - we were joking that it is double the size of our apartment. Night swimming is the best, but be aware that during the day it was very crowded. -the porn: we got in the room the first night and ordered some room service. While we were waiting husband flipped around the TV to find something amusing to watch - the only English language station was porn! It was funny and surprising that it was free and just on the TV when we were flipping channels. So make sure to watch some porn if you are there! Everything else is probably not surprising: bathroom huge with great shower and large, strangely long bathtub, 3 balconies, comfortable furniture, right across the street from the beach, classy vibe! We didn't eat at any of the restaurants around the pool becuase we didn't have fancy enough clothes with us, but there was a super classy jazz place, a new Asian place that won an award and some other place that served breakfast and had seating all around the pool. If we had any more money to spare and nicer clothes we would have eaten at one! Not much more to say, it was an incredible place and I am so happy we got to stay here even for such a short time. read more

This is a review of the spa. I had a gift certificate for an hour massage at the spa. Booking was relatively easy; they had several openings and I was able to arrange things online. The spa was past the lobby to the left, around the back of the pool to the left. There's a short elevator or stairs, to the elevated portion where the hair salon and spa are. It said to come in your swimsuit and show up half an hour before your appointment to relax in the wet or dry saunas, so I showed up 30 minutes before my appointment and was given a locker at the front desk. The receptionist was curt but professional, not very warm and welcoming but a little stand off-ish. The woman's changing room to the right, had showers, toilets and lockers. The locker had a 4 number combo and included a robe and flip flops to change into and a towel. After changing I was shown to the left side where there is a separated men's from women's sauna rooms. The rooms were small but clean and well heated. The dry sauna had two rows wooden seating and dry eucalyptus with coals and was quite dark. The wet sauna was a two tiered white marble bench and was dripping with condensation and steam. It didn't seem like you could adjust the temperatures but they were intense. I tried both for short periods of time and then sat in the lounge rehydrating with water. When my appointment time came, they called me back, introduced me to my masseuse and took me upstairs to a room. They already decided which type of massage, according to the receptionist, which must have been a misunderstanding but it sounded like it was difficult to change so I just went with the relaxing massage. I was able to chose from three essential oils and relax with soft music. I was also able to specify areas of tension (shoulders for me). She took the full amount of time, no skimping and was very professional. She knew her muscle groups very well and had good techniques for working out knots in muscles. Afterward I was offered some hot tea and allowed to go back to the saunas if I wanted. I was able to shower and change, which is great when you have massage oil all over your skin. I've been coming to Rio for 15 years and this is the first time I've stayed at the Copa Palace. What was I thinking? Love it here. I will make an analogy at this point when years ago, while in Milan, I lost my mind and bought four sets of Frette sheets. I was horrified by the extravagance, but haven't been able to sleep on anything since. The Copa Palace is my Brazilian Frette sheets. The front of the hotel is an imposing white facade in the tradition of grand hotels, while inside is surprisingly intimate. High ceilings and impeccably kept interiors throughout. Quiet, immaculate with decadently wide corridors and halls which you rarely see anymore. Our room is charming with the same molding details and feel as the rest of the hotel. The beds are extremely comfortable and the sheets are fantastic and ironed within an inch of their lives. Fabulous. The bathroom is large and well thought out. I'm a big guy and the bathtub is big enough to accommodate me which is great. Breakfast is served in the restaurant next to the pool area. I know the Fasano pool is insanely popular, but it's also insanely crowded, loud, hot and just too much chaos. I so much prefer this one. It's shaded, quiet, relaxing, without a thousand screaming people jostling to take selfies. The lie-lows are incredibly comfortable. A bit of heaven, I'm telling you. The only thing I might fault is the breakfast buffet which is small and a little uninspired, so I decided to order eggs and toast directly from the kitchen. Both were amazing. I know some might think that sounds strange, but very few places cook eggs properly. I love eggs ala francaise and this hotel comes pretty close to making it: velvety and soft with the brightest yellow color (meaning they're made from the freshest possible eggs). The crusts are cut off of the toast and are perfectly toasted. Just very nice and old school - where simple things were treated with finesse and appreciation. I now order these eggs every morning. The service and staff are exceptional and housekeeping is the absolute best. For anyone who knows Rio, service of all kinds can be a real issue but this place is a dream. Seriously. The maid, reception, bell staff. Impeccable. The other wonderful thing about this hotel is how relaxed it is. Nothing stuffy or pretentious about it even though it looks formidably imposing from the front. The location is great though Copa is Copa (if you know what I mean) but that's a small price to pay. I went for lunch with couple of friends and one of them couldn't walk because an accident. They have 2 elevators with people to help you there. It was perfect. Also the food and service was excellent, the waiter even help with our pictures and ideas. Next time I'm in Rio I will make the Sunday brunch there with my friend. Loved!! read more

We stayed here for our honeymoon a few months back and I still have the most amazing memories: the room was splendid (it was a partial seaview but really we saw the pool), the pool is magnificent and perfectly warm yet refreshing, the breakfast buffet is generous and diverse and delicious, service is quick and refined, the cocktails are worth the detour, the massages at the spa were enchanting: PERFECT hotel for a honeymoon. My only negative points: (1) the beach set up is not great, it's not in the nicest part of the beach and (2) the concierge recommended expensive places only and acted a bit superior, which is too bad. Overall, I would say no trip to Rio is complete without at least one night at the Copacabana Palace. read more

Rio's Copacabana Beach is a such a vibrant destination all its own, it almost doesn't matter where in the area you stay. Unless you stay at Copacabana Palace. Because then, it most definitely, for sure, 100% matters. And while Copacabana Palace is a world-class, five-star hotel, it doesn't act like it. Don't get me wrong, this is a masterclass in Southern (Hemisphere) Hospitality, with everyone from the concierge to the bellhop to the shop girl to the masseuse being at the absolute top of their game. But this is Rio, a city with natural beauty everywhere you turn, and no matter how luxurious this hotel may be, it remains humbled by its God-given surroundings. And therefore, this very prestigious establishment spends no time stroking its own ego by making you feel like it's a favor of theirs to let you walk through their doors, but rather eagerly welcomes the opportunity to accommodate you while staying in their beloved Cidade Maravilhosa. From its stately, art-deco exterior to the intoxicating lemongrass scent as soon as we entered (which is bottled and sold at the spa and was therefore promptly purchased by my wife) to the framed pictures of famous guests (Orson Welles, Marilyn Monroe, Walt Disney, Michael Jackson, Princess Diana, to name a few) dating back to its 1923 opening that fill the length of the second floor, it was clear early on this was going to be a very special stay. We got a room with a city view, instead of a beach view, which I didn't actually mind. In fact, if I return, I might opt that way again. You see beach views all day in Rio and it's nice to walk out onto the balcony and get a feel for real Carioca life, given you're essentially peering into well-to-do locals' condos across a busy street below. Also, maybe because this was my first time in South America, or maybe because I'm an escapist-fantasizing manchild, but being out on that balcony also kinda felt like I was a highly valuable spy hiding out in Rio, but because I'm bougie and have that leverage with my government, I make them put me up in Copcabana Palace. (Just, play along.) Anyway, when it's time to ditch the low profile and CIA agent reverie, and instead, get outdoors to sun your more-than-socially-acceptable Brazilian buns, you've got both the hotel pool and the world-famous Copacabana Beach right at your fingertips. First off, the pictures of the pool don't do it justice at all. Half-Olympic sized and located prominently between the hotel's main building and the tower accommodations, it's a gorgeous centerpiece for the establishment and entirely underused (at least it was during our stay). Picture a Miami mega resort's swimming pool without the overwhelming Instagram model population (OK, maybe one or two), a scene where you're not constantly in danger of being the creep in the back of some girl's butt pic, yet can still enjoy the luxury of being somewhere sexy. Also, they keep the pool open for nightswimming, if that's your thing, Michael Stipe. As for Copacabana Beach, it's right out front, across the street, along those signature wavy, black-and-white sidewalks of Rio. It's a lively, public space, with endless food vendors, caipirinha kiosks, pick-up volleyball games, and, of course, lots of skin. The hotel has a complimentary sectioned-off plot of sand with beach chairs and umbrellas, slightly removed from the mayhem, though close enough to the action to wander about while the hotel staff watch your things. Each scene (pool and beach) has its own speed, so rather than recommend one over the other, make sure you plan time to experience both. And pencil in the spa, while you're at it. For a five-star hotel, and yes, a favorable USD exchange rate, the treatments were very reasonably priced. The facilities were surprisingly spacious, and we were highly impressed by our masseuse, as she described oils and other fancy-smelling items in flawless English. Rio is a pretty easy place to unwind, so while there may have been fewer knots to knead, that didn't diminish in the least what was an excellent, first-rate massage. For whatever reasons, I'm especially nit-picky with hotels, regularly finding a thing or two just not quite up to snuff. Perhaps I'm like this because I know, in the back of my mind, there are ultra-accommodating places out there that truly deserve five-star status, so I reserve my standing ovations for perfection. Copacabana Palace is one of these ultra-accommodating places, a high-ass standard that further validates my nit-pickiness, and on a selfish level, that feels good. I can't recall getting hotelsick for any place other than Copacabana Palace, and when I do, I just spritz a bit of lemongrass in my apartment, wear my shortest swim trunks, and slip back into my best James Bond daydream. Great fresh daily gelato and coffee house on Atlantica along Copacabana Beach... It was easier to find consistently great gelato than it was to find great food. The passion fruit is amazing as was the line with Basil and olive oil (I know sounds odd but was so sweet and savory). My daughter tried the acai, which if you're American has a much richer taste than that which you can get or buy in the states. They also make amazing waffles with the right amount of crispness - oh happiness- that with some gelato on top! read more

Visiting this hotel was a bucket list for a friend...and the reason I was able to talk her into going with me to Rio, from Buenos Aires. Truth be told, I always thought the hotel was in Havana, so I was glad that it was actually obtainable for us Americans. Being that we were not guests at the hotel (but staying 2 hotels down) we were not allowed to join the private party dining around the pool (surrounded on all 4 sides by the hotel but with an open-air ceiling). However; we were allowed to dine and have drinks in the piano bar, which was only separated from the pool by a glass wall. This was our one, big, fancy night out, so we put on our party dresses and fanciest heels and strutted in, as though we belonged there. After having a seat at a small table with a rounded leather sofa, we ordered drinks and nosh. The drinks took a while (which only irritated me because the guests next to us showed up after and got theirs before) so I took a stroll over to the restaurant across the foyer and then down the hall to the Carnaval Costume boutique. When I returned to our table, our drinks and one of our appetizers had arrived. I tried not sampling my friends dish, thinking mine would be out shortly, but after asking twice over the course of 20 minutes, I dug into hers. Again, I would have been irritated, but I kept in mind that South Americans are a bit more laid back and lackadaisical than us hurried Americans. Comparatively, they are like Hawaiians and everything is "Just 15 minutes", even if it's really an hour. Our server was very apologetic and kept the complimentary nuts and snack dishes coming. He also gave each of us a complimentary drink and comped my appetizer. For that, the wait was well worth it. I mean, its not like we were in a rush to leave one of the most beautiful, elegant and famous hotels! After eating and drinking, we took a peek around a few ballrooms (a closed door will never stop either of us) and we gazed upon the enormous hallways with photos of all their famous guests; from John Wayne to Princess Diana to Jean-Claude Van Damme. They all stayed at the coveted hotel. We also were able to sneak a peek at the "black pool" (a private rooftop pool with a painted black bottom) because a couple we came across thought we were al so guests and used their hotel key in the elevator that took us to the top. The hallways aren't quite as exciting, but they are gorgeous; painted white with white flowers everywhere and chandeliers and crystal wall light-fixtures everywhere you turn. After that, we took some photos of the hall of Carnaval costumes then headed to a 3rd or 4th floor balcony - stretching the length of the hotel - which overlooked the beach. I have no idea what the cost of a room is here, but am pretty sure it's one of those places that "If you have to ask, you can't afford it". But a girl can dream. The hotel is a must when in Rio. But the service at Pergula does not alway live up to the very prestigious hotel. The food quality is amazing but the service at the casual restaurant Pergula will leave you speechless. You must improve the basics and service in rio can be relaxed, but when staying and paying at the Copacabana Palace you must receive 5 star + service! read more

What a major let down. I'm sure this place is nice if you're a guest but as a visitor there service is spotty as the decide at random times to close the food service to outside guests without warning. PÉRGULA RESTAURANT was absolutely delicious and the service was phenomenal! I had the pork and it was amazing. Crisp pork belly skin and just juicy and soft interior. My fiance had the seafood linguini and it was to die for as well. The sauce was light, and simple but very well seasoned and tasty. The seafood was fresh and we would highly recommend this dish. I walked into the hotel to see it for future visits and decided to have something to eat at the pool because it looked so nice and inviting. Poolside there is a lovely restaurant with table service and a very nice menu. I had the cerviche and cheese bread. The cheese bread is made fresh per order and required 15 minutes. It was certainly fresh. The food was delicious and the atmosphere was a welcome change from the bustle on the street. read more
