My teacher, Cecilia, is fantastic! She is very knowledgeable and understands the difficulties English speakers have. Also she knows where each student is at and asks questions designed to allow us to practice what we know and learn some new vocabulary. She is very good at understanding what we want to say and helping us say it in French. I have heard from other students that the other teachers are the same. The immersion method used is a little tough at first, but you get used to it and it is really effective. Also the other students in my class are great. We always have fun in class and the time flies. The class prices are reasonable, actually a good deal for such small groups. After having taken classes here, I don't think I will ever go back to a college or university for lessons. If you want to learn French, I definitely recommend the Alliance Francaise!

This alone was was priceless. Saying that, THIS company cares for the teachers as well as the student body. If I have any questions they would be answered almost immediately. So, who's doing anything about this? LAH is! They are a non-profit organization whose mission is "to teach adults to read, write, and communicate in English so they can achieve their full potential as parents, workers, citizens, and community members." Using strictly volunteer tutors, classes are offered for free at schools, community centers, churches, corporations, and small businesses throughout the Greater Houston area. LAH has been strongly endorsed by a number of local literacy advocates whose names you've heard (some of them are volunteer tutors too): * Author and Houston's First Lady, Andrea White * Former Astro pitcher, announcer and manager, Larry Dierker * Former Oiler quarterback and General Manager of the Houston Dynamo, Oliver Luck * Former Head Coach of the Houston Comets, Van Chancellor * and many more... There are few local charities that are more deserving of some dollars you can leverage into a tax write-off or perhaps even some of your time as a tutor. In addition to the office in Galleria area, they also have an office near Clearlake. Full disclosure: I'm currently not involved with Literacy Advance of Houston in any way but I am a personal friend of its Executive Director and know a member of the Executive Board.

After the completion of the course, I've noticed a lot of improvements in my spoken English: I realized what kind of mistakes I was making and brought awareness to HOW I speak (which is probably the most important part and a key to success).
