We hired Carl for our wedding and he made the night magical! We had a fairly diverse range of guests (20-70 years old, some professional dancers, many with no dance experience), and we requested 30 minutes of barn dancing to kick off the party. He had our guests on their feet and having a great time so efficiently, we could not have asked for a better way to start the party. Carl is awesome! He made the night so fun and special for our everyone at our party. We were all 50 somethings and total beginners--Carl had us dancing in no time. We were able to request music, too. We also learned a little bit about the history of each dance and barn dances. When we weren't dancing, Carl dj'd our favorite tunes and more that were the country style of the night. He was enthusiastic, patient, kind, thoughtful and easy to work with. We will definitely do another dance party with Carl! read more

History

Established in 2010.

Carl Ballou grew up in a dancing family. Introduced to folk dancing at YMCA camp at age 5, as a teen Carl was taking weekly classes and attending folk and square dance festivals in the San Francisco Bay Area. By college, he was a popular square dance caller. His love of dance and his pursuit for fun, family-oriented activities led him to specialize in Barn Dance programs for groups that have no previous dance experience. Over the next two decades Carl was a Dance Leader / MC for schools, churches, company parties, youth and senior citizen groups throughout the Bay Area. He established CBDanceman while living in NW Arkansas, then returned to California, expanding his services to include DJ and Ballroom Dance Instruction and custom "Sparkle on Your Wedding Day" First Dance Choreography. Now living in Grants Pass, he hopes to provide Southern Oregon and surrounding communities with a unique and fun social activity for all ages. Dancing is Fun for Everyone, Set to Music!

Meet the Business Owner: Carl B.

Carl Ballou, aka CBDanceman, has been a dance leader for over 25 years, MC-ing Folk and Square Dance programs for Churches, Schools, Scout Troupes, YMCA groups, youth organizations, and other functions from the West Coast to the Midwest. Carl's specialty is taking a group with little or no dance experience and introduce them to the joy of dancing. His Barn Dance Program (about 2 hours long) consist of fun, easy dances from America's Heritage that everyone can do - with brief instruction from the floor. Carl has worked with groups of all ages, from school kids to seniors, and adjusts the program to the group's ability to ensure maximum participation and enjoyment. Carl is also available for private and small group instruction in Basic Ballroom Dance, such as custom First Dance for bridal couples, and DJ services for Special Events and Weddings.
