I come to this charity shop regularly and find that it is great for books (there are a great selection and are usually around 50-75p each), furniture and clothes. Because the shop is so big there is enough floor space for them to sell second hand furniture aswell as the usual bric a brac and clothes. I've picked up quite a few bargain antique pieces here, and they allow you to reserve furniture to collect at a later date.

They pride themselves on some of the North's leading contemporary designers and their furniture is sheer class. They are home to 35 cutting-edge designers and there is enough inspiration to keep even my motor mouth quiet for an hour or so. If you want to jazz up your lounge, no problem. Slick and chic sofas sit along side funky tables. You'll even find plush flooring, cookware and gifts. It's quite pricey but sometimes money does buy taste and it shows here. Add to that four cafes to refresh those flagging shopping legs and it's worth a punt. A definite reason to venture into Batley and spruce up the house in your life.

Firstly, Ashton Market consists of many outside plots that covers all of Market Square and also they have a indoor building. On the outside, you have different stalls each offering different things. All these people are independent traders. So for example you have a home stall that sells washing powder and fairy liquid and dishcloths. All at cheap prices too! Then you have a Betty Boop stall that sells Figurines cheaply. Its great. Everything you need is on these stalls and at a fraction of the price. Inside, it is a similar story, you also have cafes and carpet people as well as butchers and cheese counters. The list is endless. If you are looking for something particular, have a look at their website for more information. I love this market as I have been brought here since I was a child. Sadly a few years ago, someone burnt the indoor market down and it has had to be rebuilt but it stands today, stronger and better than before. A vast improvement but it has took a while and businesses struggled for a while! Anyway go on a Sunday too for like a car boot market. It is great to get out and wander around who knows what you might find. I found a Lion King Book that I had been looking for (sad i know ) but I loved it!

Let's face it,if you don't like wandering around a nice traditional town centre market then you have ceased to be a human (well one that likes to look at cheap tat anyway).. Ashton along with Bury is one of the few half decent markets that still exist near me these days,and even though Bury is only on a few days a week (What's the deal with that anyway? A market should be at least 6 days a week!) They are always great places to have a wander. Not to be confused with- Xmas markets (over priced German wooden things) Farmers markets (Wild Boar sausages) Flea markets (Really small insects) Or Meat markets (Kicking out time at night clubs)...

Notably some interesting mirrors, prints by local artists and a range of built accessories (lunch bag, bottle holder and baby related items in neoprene). There is also jewellery, cards and clothes. It's a small shop with a lot packed in. At the back of the shop there's a cosy cafe with good (not amazing) coffee and homemade cakes. Well worth a peruse if you are in the area.

This used to have a nice mix of ethnic and engish stores and you had a realy good choice of things to buy, but, now it focuses more on ethnic goods and thus there isnt really much for me to buy there anymore as i dont go in for all the spices and curry food that it sells. The village has many market type stalls set out in the grounds and there is also a few stalls inside too - there is a second hand flea market type of stall inside with all sorts of second hand furniture and books, ornaments, bric a brac, etc. There is also a small pet shop inside which doesnt do many live animals but does cater for pet care and treatment with a good stock. There are loads of ethnic clothing stalls and ethnic food stalls so if that is your taste there are some good bargains to be had as this is a really cheap market. There is also a butcher who sells out of refrigerated wagon who haggles people with his prices which gives it an auction type of feel. I love listening to him say 'ill give you 2 pieces for a fiver or even 3 pieces for a fiver - any takers' and everyone waves their fivers about thinking they are getting a bargain - i wouldnt dare buy meat like that. Ok for bargains but hard to walk round as gets very muddy and the ground isnt even and is very hilly in places so it isnt appropriate for wheelchair users and prams.

They had a massive collection of stalls focusing on everything from textiles to cookware and the prices are all negotiable.. It was like being in morocco again !! ... It's worth mentioning the fellas outside market 2 who run a bedding and pots and pan store where I seemed to spend at least 30 mins... The prices where very good and the customer service brilliant... Any size and colour fitted bed sheets 2 for £5.. Bargain . To mention further the street food on offer was equally as good.. Will definitely be back
