We enjoyed a three hour "Taste of the Loire" tour that included tour of the extensive caves and the wine making process followed by wines of both the Alaine Robert wines as well as others of the Loire region. Myriam paired about 9 wines with local cheeses, charcuterie, and desserts making the tasting tour an amazing cultural and gastronomical experience. Myriam had a very professional presentation she shared as we tasted, outlining the region and many appellations of Loire and Touraine including geology that makes these white wines so beloved around the world. I'm more of the beer fan and tried everything they had available which was a blonde, a white, an amber, and a dark (which seems like what most French microbreweries offer). They were all pretty good and the owner let me come in back to see their setup. The great thing about many French wineries is they let you sample for free, so to make up for it, I bought a bottle to go. I'm not much of the wine person, but everyone else seemed to enjoy the wines as well. The owner was a really nice guy and you can tell they are passionate about their craft. I think we bought 3 or 4 bottles and tasted a ton of stuff for 20 euro. Not very far from downtown Amboise and worth a visit.

We used their convenient website to register for our tour the day before, and Frederic was ready and waiting for us. He gave us an OUTSTANDING tour. His English is good, my French isn't, but Frederik has a lovely sense of humor so it all worked out. He answered all of our questions about the Vouvray Region, the Caves of Cathelineau Winery, the grapes, the process, the weather, etc. It was a wonderful experience walking through the Caves that had literally been carved out of the soft local limestone into the mountainside by his ancestors. Signs of history and the aging process were everywhere. The wines are excellent and especially good if you enjoy the Vouvray Region's white wines which feature finely balanced dry and semi-dry whites as well as champagne, which was our goal for the visit. I highly recommend this winery for its history, the fine tour, and the excellent reasonably priced wines. Take the opportunity to have some shipped back home. Our case just arrived today!

Afterwards you can try the wine. I forget what exactly the name was of the wine I tried, but it was sparkling and I liked it a lot. I'm not big on drinking wine but I'd drink tons of what I sampled after the guided tour through the wine cellars. They also have tons of weird French goodies and touristy crap you can buy in the store after, along with the wines they make. Like those weird meat spreads and shit, I dunno. And like wine and sugar and agar agar mixed together. I bought a little jar of that shit. Wine jelly? Idk. I'm Filipino so agar agar is something familiar to me.
