Stumbled across this place. Apparently opened up late in 2016, it's a tiny little space, with two…read moretables for two, and a few bar stools, mostly being a takeout joint. A short and simple menu - tacos and burritos (chicken or beef), quesadillas (plain or with the fixings), posole, and chilaquiles (also chicken or beef). Run by a couple of women from Morelia, bringing their version of Mexican street food to the streets of BA. Ordered up a couple of chicken and a couple beef tacos (32 pesos each, or 3 for 90). I'd say that these are probably the most authentic street food style tacos I've yet to have in BA. I could happily eat a half a dozen of those for lunch, any day. The hot sauce on the table was pretty mild, more tomato than anything else, and I asked if there was a real hot sauce around, and they brought me a little dish of chile de árbol sauce (rehydrated chiles de árbol blended with a little tomato) that was fiery and perfect. I don't think they expected me to use the whole dish.... They also sell a bunch of Mexican packaged products, including those chilies, that they bring down from Mexico themselves. Decided to give the plain quesadilla a try (30 pesos). Salted mozzarella in a tortilla. I mean, it's fine, and I schmeared it with the last bits of the hot sauce. But I think I'd rather order the "with the works" version, albeit it comes with four quesadillas and is really designed to split, though I suppose you could make a solo lunch out of it. Besides, those tacos.... I was going to call it a lunch when I noticed that they had Mexican hot chocolate on the menu (no desserts available). After asking and finding that yes, it's made using the real Mexican bar chocolate with the almonds and cinnamon and vanilla, I went for a cup. Perfect ending! I will definitely be making this a regular spot to stop in for lunch when over in the area. A couple of days later a friend in San Telmo wanted to grab lunch and I thought, what the heck, let's go back and try more of the menu. He went for the tacos, I decided to try, first, the burritos - two beef ones (also, again, available in chicken). Back with chopped, well browned and seasoned beef, flavorful rice and beans, cheese, guacamole, and more. Like the tacos, these are easily the best burritos I've had in BA. I think they were 90 pesos for two. And, what the heck, try the volcán, a crispy taco (minor disappointment that it wasn't the corn tortilla that was promised, but a flour one, like the others), laden with shredded chicken, onions, guacamole, and salsa. A little pricier than the tacos, coming in at 45 pesos, but it's also twice the filling, at least. All in all, we have a winner for some decent Mexican fare here in town. It's not fancy, it's street food, but it's done right!

And someone needs to teach them how to fold a burrito. You do not eat a good burrito with a knife and fork. The guacamole belongs in the inside. I don't go back.

Turned out a couple of Food tours were arriving soon. Lucky we were ordering takeaway. Smaller spot with just about an equal amount of in/outdoor seating. We ordered a couple of the Guest Chori's-The Juan Pedro Caballero (pork) and the Carneceria (beef). Juan Pedro had tortilla chips and peppers and the pork chorizo sausage was saltier than the beef. We ordered a Chimichurri sauce on the side and enjoyed it. We liked the Pork more than the Beef-just was more flavorful. The Bread was thick, soft and held up to the Choripan and condiments well. Potato salad with al dente potatoes was tasty. They also have beer and cocktails so ordered a Gin and Tonic while we waited for our order. Friendly people behind the counter. Food was ready in about 15 minutes. That said, I can see they could get busy and have longer wait times. Make this stop for local grilled sausage deliciousness.

They served mostly chori and one morci (blood) sausage sandwiches but with a twist with their toppings. You could get just the sandwich or combine with side and drink. I picked the Invitado Juan Pedro Caballero and the cashier hesitated before entering the order as she wanted me to know it was picante. I assured her it was not a problem and then paid with my credit card. After a short wait, they called my name and I picked up my choripan. it was quite the handful filled with layers of roasted peppers, tortilla chips, onions and lettuce. The tortilla chips were stale but overall I liked the flavors especially with the heat from the peppers and chipotle mayo. It was a nice twist on the popular choripan.

The name "Taco Box" conjures up the idea of a fast food atmosphere where they give you plastic utensils and wrap your food in tin foil. But this place is actually kinda fancy, they have white linen table cloths and everything. My friend and I ordered nachos and a veggie quesadilla to split. To my pleasant surprise, the food was actually quite good! Tasty with fresh ingredients and nothing you wouldn't expect getting Tex-Mex in the US. I felt like I was home for a little bit there. Only downfall was the margarita. It was my first time ordering a margarita in BsAs so I was excited. The server didn't ask any questions so I assumed it would be the rocks, but it came out frozen. Alright no biggie. Tried it, ehh. Not the same. Hard to explain but the taste was off and unlike any margarita I've tasted before. Still drinkable, but not worth the price. Overall, a pleasant experience and a nice surprise for someone who loves Tex-Mex food. I will definitely return when I feel a hankering for a little piece of home.

The "3" rating comes from lack of inattention when we walked. They did tell us they didn't accept credit cards and we chose a table, then nothing from the waiters fir about 10 minutes. Hello, wake up girls! My husband and I were just saying it was so nice not to have blaring music, we could actually have a conversation when, one of the girls cranked up the music. We don't mind music, but the speaker was right over our heads & blaring. We asked them to turn it down and they kinda had the attitude of "what, why". The wait stuff spoke enough English, so no communication problem. There was only 1 other couple in the restaurant so, turning down should not have been a problem. We had to ask again! I hope the manager sees this review.
