I share my experience more from the point of a patient with a rare and notorious to diagnose heart condition. The rarity of my illness must have contributed to my interaction with Dr. Dao. So if your illness is more of the regular type, your experience could be different.
I would prefer it to be 2.5 star, but there is no such thing, thus.
On initial impression, Dr. Dao asked the most complete set of questions on my first visit. I came to Dr. Dao after visiting many Cardiologists, not being to get a diagnose. I had high hope at the time. From those questions, I think Dr. has a good grasp of medical knowledge a general cardiologist should.
Unfortunately mine is on the special and rare type. At that time I got a not yet confirmed self-diagnose with the help of AI. (Yes, AI.) And interestingly, the diagnose was later confirmed via surgery with a prominent specialist cardiologist majoring in that field, after my visit with Dr. Dao.
Dr. Dao claimed she had treated patients with my rare medical condition before, though she didn't fully agree with the diagnose before the confirmation surgery. And in later interactions with her, I often found her knowledge more from a general cardiologist point's of view, not covering the full spectrum of my illness's speciality. Quite a few times her understanding is contrary to what I experienced, and some suggestion could be even harmful to my situation.
I think she covers the general side well, and she meant well. But unfortunately being a very confident cardiologist, she has an intention to center the interaction more around her opinion, it could feel like lecturing, rather than helping or listening. And the shown knowledge gap in that specific field often distracts me in our communication, aiding my dropping of confidence in her.
I believe mostly because of the rarity of my medical condition, further visit with Dr. Dao on this topic may not help much. Again, your mileage may vary. read more
