I have been a member of this club for over 30 years, and the below is my honest view of the club.
The club has changed somewhat over the years, with it having a snazzy graffiti exterior now - and although the interior could still do with a lick of paint, it offers so much in such a small space.
Snooker, pool (both free to anyone every Wednesday) at 20p for 10 mins and 50p a game respectfully , darts, 2 skittle alleys, bar, lounge and large function room (also available for free) - there's not many places that offer more still around.
The room is used on a regular basis for all sorts of things, such as sports meetings, dance groups and theatrical practices amongst other things.
The club also boasts some very successful snooker, pool and skittle teams that have won numerous trophy's over the years, and are always on the lookout for good players to join - we have some students who have already joined us for the time they are studying in the city.
If you have a team who are looking for a venue to arrange a friendly match against your friends or perhaps one of one of the sides, all you have to do is speak to the stewardess for a point in the right direction as to who to speak to.
Whilst this is still a local community type of club, with a lot of members having been coming here over several decades - it is very much a local club - with everyone welcome to use all of the facilities on offer.
There are fundraising events for local and nationwide charities, live music on most Saturday nights as well as bingo - so something to suit every taste in my opinion.
The beer is cheap in comparison to some pubs around, with the only thing lacking is that they don't do food at the moment - you will have to settle for crisps, nuts and pork scratchings from the bar.
So all in all, I would say that as long as you are not expecting an up to date, flashy modern pub....you may enjoy a night in a friendly, somewhat retro quieter (on occasion) club instead.
Give it a go, you may actually like it!! read more
