It might seem odd reviewing a cemetery, but this one linking the Cathays and Heath areas of Cardiff is such a tranquil green space that it deserves it.
It's one of Britain's biggest and most impressive cemeteries, covering almost 35 hectares, with thousands of memorials dating from 1859 onwards, including some well-known historical Cardiff characters.
Granted, not everyone wants to hang out in a cemetery - but in fact lots of people do visit this one, whether it's to do research, follow the self-guided heritage trail, or just to enjoy the peace and quiet. There's loads of wildlife here, too, as there are lots of mature and exotic trees and other landscaping features that attract birds, animals, fungi and flowers. If it doesn't creep you out, it can also be interesting reading some of the old grave stones, which contain so much of the city's history - and to see the listed buildings within the site, including the chapels, gateway and forecourt walls.
The main entrance to the cemetery is on Fairoak Road, but you can also get in on Allensbank Road and Lake Road West. read more
