(I discovered that just about every fence on Main St is theirs.) Called for an estimate and the owner, Michael, came by to discuss the project. Michael is personally involved in every job, with the goal being perfection. They're very busy (four week wait at least), but definitely worth waiting for. They sent over a very friendly, capable crew that did a great job installing the fence. From the first post to the final paint touch-up they were a pleasure to have at my home. They were also open to some tweaks as their worked progress (i.e., swapped black for brushed stainless hardware, changed closing latch). Some may feel that EHF&G is little pricey, but I think you get what you pay for - great design, sturdy materials and a quality product. I'm very happy.

He initially quotes a reasonable estimate for work. He then hems and haws about scheduling, repeatedly setting dates and then not showing up, not answering calls or responding to emails. IF he ever finishes the job -- a very big if, as he left our project half-done and wasn't heard from again for 3 months -- the invoice he eventually sends is more than twice the estimate he quoted. In our case, he double-billed us for materials that we purchased ourselves and had delivered, at his request. He tried to charge us for them again, but with a mark-up over the price we paid to the supplier. When you request a statement outlining costs and services, he whines about how his time is too valuable for him to spend documenting his statements, and that you just have to trust him that you owe the amount he says you owe. It's difficult to trust someone who told you on 4 different occasions he would come to finish the job and never showed up at all. Michael left us with a half-finished project we then had to contract with a more reliable company to complete. In the meantime, we just had to live with the mess.

Again I had to tell them what to order because they denied they could get gates From Eastern fence in NY. So many red flags. I should have used my own installer and had him bill Service company. Marc the owner was very unpleasant to deal with as this wasn't a "big paying job" I was a nuisance to them really. Now 3 months later one of the gates has 2 cracks, one at a sodder joint corner, which is technically a Manufacturing flaw. Marc cannot be bothered to replace or fix because he is too busy with big jobs and I need to be more careful. Ya right, I don't beat on or man handle my equipment. When you have a wood fence in CT you're bound to have to repair it nearly annually, due to rotting posts, rotting panels, etc. I've been hiring the same fence company for installations and repairs as needed but this year I wanted to upgrade to vinyl. The previous fence company I'd been using just flat out didn't reply to my request for a quote. Their loss, big time. Several years ago I did get a vinyl fence quote from that company and it was considerably more than what I paid Hartford Fence to do, in 2025. Also the more expensive quote was for a white vinyl fence, which I do not like. So, that left me to reach out for other estimates and Hartford Fence came flying in with a swift estimate, excellent color options and once we made our decision and put down a deposit, they installed the thing within 9 days. We got the fence because we have dogs and they can easily escape. The gate wasn't installed properly so it's very difficult to open and close. No communication, no shows, I find it grossly offensive i I'm treated poorly as a woman calling but then when my husband gets on the phone they act differently. Still waiting for a resolution. I don't expect to get one but I'll update if they make this right. And I have videos, pictures and screenshots if anyone wants to dispute any of my observations.
