Called in the Castle Inn in Caldicot whilst visiting the nearby Monmouthshire Food Festival on the same day. Had noticed the advertising board whilst on my way to the castle for the food fare. Was enticed by the two courses for £12 offer. Came into the pub and was very busy as a large group of ladies had reserved or pre-booked a table but managed to squeeze myself in. It is a very small pub, old fashioned looking i.e. fire, low ceiling, oak beams etc. etc. The staff is friendly and very eager to help. Ordered from the two/three course menu although there was a Burger menu, Ciabatta menu and even a pensioners menu too. The set course menu offered soup, garlic mushrooms and about half a dozen other choices for starters. Similarly the main menu was packed full of steaks and gammons but I opted for a Chicken, Sage and Mushroom top crust pie with mixed vegetables and chips which happened to be a special on that day but was available under the courses meal deal. The desert menu had a plethora of choice but I was intrigued by the strawberry prosecco and ice cream bomb. The pub also serves real ale, I enjoyed a pint of Exmoor Gold on the said day. It was £12 for two courses and £15 for three, although the same offer/course menu is discounted for pensioners too. Thoroughly enjoyed my meal in a charming pub, hope to call in there again soon. read more
