Everything feels intentional, from the quality of the meat to the fact that they practice whole-animal butchery and source locally through Hobson Family Farms. Love supporting businesses that are actually rooted in the community instead of just slapping "local" on a label. Also obsessed that they make everything in-house... jerky, sausages, beef sticks, bone broth powder, seasonings, even beef tallow. They also carry artisan bread, fresh produce, and organic milk, so somehow I walked in for meat and left feeling like a pioneer woman lol. The space itself feels warm, welcoming, and very Ventura in the best way. Clean, rustic, community-oriented... the kind of place where you can tell the regulars genuinely love coming in. It has that old-school neighborhood butcher shop energy but without feeling intimidating or pretentious. The staff was super welcoming and patient answering questions without making anyone feel intimidated. Whether you know your cuts of meat or you're just there because someone told you "trust me," they make the experience approachable. Honestly feels like one of Ventura's hidden gems. Made my husband very happy. He literally made flank steak the second we got home and was completely content. Now he's suddenly talking about buying a smoker!

I bought a half pound of ground beef. I paid $6.00 at 11.99lb. so I know it was a 1/2lb. I went home to make 2, 4 oz burgers. I use a highly accurate digital kitchen scale. I weight out exactly 113 grams which is slightly less than 4oz. Turns out I was 12 grams short. I then weighed the cardboard container and it measured 12 grams. Next time I will make sure they weigh it without the container. I know, 12 grams isn't much, but 1 oz is 28 grams, so 12 is close to a 1/2 oz. With todays prices we need to get all of our money's worth. I guess you could say that the tray is worth something, but I didn't ask for it and it just goes in the trash anyways. I still give them 5 stars for quality and service!

Saw it neatly nestled off Hueneme Road on the North side- 'pert-near' Perkins Street. So Yesterday (10/26/2017) I went in, not because of any fancy outside sign or Store Front but for quite opposite reasons. Those 'reasons' are for another time & place. As I walked in, I found the "Meat Section" waaaay in the rear right corner of the store. They only have two small 'Vitrinas' refrigeradas side by side (as I recall). The meat choices are very small but the Butcher is very attentive, courteous and eager to please the Customer Anywho- I had decided to make a whole potful of POZOLE for which pork is required. Pozole is a Mexican Iron-Kettle-Stew-Type-Dish, Older than American Pepper Pot Soup. And I just had a feeling Las Playas would have pork meat. They did. I bought a 1 kilo and some delicious, hot chicharrones. As a whole, the store stocks what it can. It's sort of like a Mom & Pop business, Reminds me of that old adage, "Support Your Local Sheriff", so I'm for supporting Local Business most likely than not. You have to eat them outside on one of the small picnic tables (which appear to belong to the neighboring stores), or in your car. They're messy, so I wouldn't recommend the car. My buddy brought me here and swore these were the best burgers. Just one bite and I could taste what the fuss was all about. We ordered the cowboy burgers which come with grilled onions, avocado, lettuce, tomato and cheese. They were tasty and oh so tender. My buddy also gets about a month's worth of tri tips and steaks at a time here. They vacuum seal the meat upon request, and my buddy has yet to find a better tri-tip in the area.
