Visiting the castle Orsini-Odescalchi is a "must-do" while you are in Bracciano. The grounds are immaculate, the views of the lake are breathtaking, and the history is fascinating.
I do wish walls could talk, because I can only imagine the stories that these would have over 7 centuries.
Established by the Orsini family in the 1400s, the castle was initially built as a fortress, before being used as a palatial home in the more recent centuries. Popes, princes, and pop culture royalty have all glided through its corridors over the years. The frescoes and floors are all original, and imagining what changes they have seen over the centuries is intriguing to ponder.
We had a private tour on my recent visit, and I only wish we had had a smaller group so that I could have peppered our tour guide with more questions.
Don't hesitate to add this to your list to visit when you're in the area, it is well worth your time! read more
