Diplomacy... not my strongest trait.
Did I like it, yes. Did I like it for 500€, not enough. Was the (additional) Spa treatment worth it... hmmm, I've had better for less... I just know one thing: kill (or at least fire) that pool bartender...
But I'm getting ahead of myself.
Arriving at the Monastero was impressive, it is just quintessential Tuscany, vineyards, old brick buildings, blue skies... Make sure you got good weather, otherwise Tuscany is just not 100% what it could be ;). We were a tad early, to be fair, but no one was there to greet us, to park the car, hell, to tell us "yes you are in the right place" (which was not very easy to figure out). So, after a bit of looking for the reception, we managed to check in.
We received a complimentary upgrade, the room was quite nice, but still, in the grand scheme of things, I wouldn't have paid the price for this (upgraded) room, let alone the originally booked one. Vacation time rip-off, probably. That being said, the room and amenities were nice, the view was stunning, it just wasn't "there".
We dined at the Gordon Ramsay restaurant "Contrada". The evening was a perfect evening for dining outdoors, so the restaurant didn't even offer indoor seating (just saying...). But yeah, it was a fun evening, restaurant review to follow.
Further "highlights" included the bartender poolside making the two worst Piña Coladas I've ever had, putting alcohol in a virgin colada, serving drinks separately, taking 5-10 minutes per cocktail... he was totally useless.
All in all, I expected a bit more, the restaurant was a somewhat redeeming factor, but all in all it was just not really worth it. Or to quote the 2-star rating: "Meh, I've expected better." read more
