Definitely one of the best CCRCs in South Carolina! Verdae a very impressive mixed use community!

My husband and I have had a great experience here. The care quality was excellent. Three members that make this establishment run smoothly are Cassandra, Tiffany and Anita. The office staff, concierge, social worker's er dietitian and physical therapy were kind and understanding. We are in a difficult situation and they helped to make it better. read more

First of all, I can only speak to the Memory Care portion of the Cascades. The person in charge is Michelle. My Aunt was not cared for properly. Her clothes were dirty, had food spilled on them and not cleaned up. They do not do any activities with the patients. Don't be fooled by the menu, they feed the residents hot dogs and fried potatoes, mostly what I call a middle school cafeteria diet. She always seemed to be in some sort of catatonic stupor from the medicines they gave her, and I found her and the other residents asleep in their wheelchairs most of the time. Once a friend came to visit her and found a dirty diaper on the floor in her bathroom. The friend went to the desk to tell them and then went back and stayed with my aunt for another TWO HOURS and no one came in to clean it up. My aunt is now at a different facility, and she is doing so much better. She is getting healthy food, participates in all the activities, and is in a clean, nice environment. They continued to bill us after she moved and still will not return our calls. Please do your due diligence. Just because it is expensive, does not mean it is quality care. Stop in at random times, so they do not know when to expect you. Go at meals and see the food for yourself. But better yet, do not put your loved one here. It is absolutely awful. read more

If you love the person .... Do not leave them at the Cascades. This is the 2nd time I have had a parent stay here for rehab. The place is run by inefficient people. They just don't care. The nursing staff is touch and go as well as the CNAs. There are some good nurses and CNAs but few of them. When they use an agency for CNAs ... it's worse. The grounds and the rooms are nice but it's like putting lipstick on a pig. Watch out for some of the agency nurses. My mom's nurse tonight was from an agency ... she came with an attitude. She called me "trash". How professional is that ? The Cascades could use some serious changes. Do not let appearances fool you. Stay a while ... you will find out exactly what it is like. read more

From the sidelines, I (his favorite son in-law) have watched, with great concern, transition into even greater alarm, as my wife and her siblings deal with the care provided, by The Cascades, to their now-deceased parents. At introduction, The Cascades and its outward appearance, looked like not only the best, but the only care facility you would want, trust with your parents' care. Quickly, the veneer started to warp into something best described by an expired carton of milk. By all appearances it looks good. The next morning, you pour milk for your cereal, only to discover, the milk is expired, soured. The milk appeared good but wasn't. The effects are the same; you are both committed to your Wheaties and out of milk. As with The Cascades, the contracts are signed, the money is paid, the uncomfortable conversations had...long before you know what's truly inside, beyond the veneer. From administering the wrong medications, to property theft, by Cascade employees, to undiagnosed or miss diagnosed illness (all of which occurred multiple times), these challenges should never have occurred given the glowing introduction and correlating price tag. There is no good, comfortable way to watch one of the strongest, most generous men you have ever known transition into a man in need of great care. But to believe he is in the most capable hands in The Upstate only to swiftly discover, his care is no better than that in a state-run facility, is unbelievable and tragic. A younger version of my father-in-law would have acutely recognized the the complete lack continuity between the care promised and signed for versus what he received. This is a private dining retirement home where my in-laws live. The facilities are very nice and upscale. I have described this place as like living on a stationary cruise ship. There is always some planned activity from tours or special movie showings in the small, private theater, and a variety of food options. The residences range from stand alone cottages all the way to fully assisted living. The fine dining is very good from a food and portion standpoint, but also very pricey. I decided to review this place because Yelp keeps asking me to and it always leaves a favorable impression when we dine here. The "campus" does have the feeling of a large college campus, complete with the large "green" surrounded by academic looking condominium residences. A neat place for the retired folks, but it is not cheap. read more

Be aware of what meds they give to your parents. We had a problem with my mom taking a highly addictive medicine years ago and we finally got her withdrawn from it. After being in the Cascades for less than 2 weeks somehow she was given the medicine without consulting me, her POA. Luckily I was in the process of removing her from there and I saw the pill sheet upon discharge. Only thing that my mom liked was the food. read more

complicated s been here almost 3 months and the entire family has been very please. From intake to Zoom and personal visits. Like to give a special thank you to Kasey for becoming a new part of my dads life. She is aware of his immediate needs and has been able to promptly answer our questions and concerns. I have lived at Cascades Verdae for six years. I came here for many reasons which include being nearer to Great Doctors, old friends, and special care when I need assistance. I can stay in my apartment if I choose, or be entertained by the many activities at Cascades. The Activities Committee has done a great job even in these trying times. I can get help with my computer, my cell phone, etc. I can even have food delivered to my door if I chose and now that the dining room is open again I have that option. Is it perfect here? No but I think it is as good as it can be at this time in my life. Now I am going to he gym to exercise. read more

Remember when they pulled that guy off of the United Airlines flight? The fine print of his contract said they had every right to do it. That is how my parents were treated by the Cascades. I really think that it bordered on elder abuse. My parents went into the Cascades certain they would never want to leave. They should have had a good lawyer review the contract. They would have found that if they left they were on the hook for $5,000+ monthly maintenance fee UNTIL THEIR COTTAGE WAS SOLD! Cascades also kept the entire value of their cottage UNTIL IT WAS OCCUPIED. And boy did they ever take their time selling and occupying it. We were totally at their mercy and they were heartless contract followers. Why would anyone leave the halcyon world of the Cascades? Well, you may move there to find that they are increasing rapidly in size without increasing the available services. The pool, the dinning room, the gym doesn't get any bigger as new tracts of houses come online. This place is also kind of a world of Obama haters. That is probably not so surprising considering the age of the population and its location in the south. Nevertheless it is stultifying. My advice. Look for another place. Better still, for this kind of money get your parents a driver and a cook and let them live at home! read more

I see that reviews from a few years ago were decent, but please beware of placing or encouraging your parents to move in there! The staff tried to administer my mom her medication and she had to tell them that the medicine did not belong to her! More recently, my dad had a gall bladder infection and not 1 staff member picked it up! As a result, he developed sepsis in his bloodstream and sadly passed today! If your parents can live independently, the Cascades is a decent place, but if they need care, whether it be assisted or skilled nursing, you will be making a huge mistake by placing them there! They are so large now, they can't administer the necessary care to your loved ones! There are many other communities in Greenville that will provide much better care! I am very disappointed in The Cascades! read more

I have lived at the cascades for a year in independent living. During the initial visit my daughter and I were very impressed with the facility and asked numerous questions regarding the rates and increases which would occur. We were informed in Janauary of 2022 that increases are between 3 and 5 percent. Unfortunatly, the increase will be much more than that. Starting in January of 2023. the increase is 8.34%. Of course, when asked, we are told that everyhing is increasing and they need to keep raising our rates to make up for labor and food. In addition, you must give them 90 days notice if you are leaving and if you leave before that you are required to pay for those 3 months which add up to over 12000 dollars. In addition, to be accepted at the cascades you give them a small fortune...for me, it was $145000. And that is not the highest by any stretch. I would caution anyone who is considering coming here to be very careful regarding what you are told and make sure you get everything in wiritng. Also any painting or change of carpet you will pay for out of the remaining buy-in dollars when you leave. It is up to them to decidewhat needs to be done without consulting you. We are supposed to be customers,but the the corporation thinks they are the customers and we are there to support them. If you are single and of course, on a fixed budget, you will be behind the eight ball. LOOK ELSEWHERE for you retirement years. read more

Wow, this place makes me nervous. We went to visit an elderly friend who had been moved here for some difficult therapy following surgery. We arrived at the gate and announced who we wanted to see. When I asked for directions (there are many buildings), they just hung up. We kind of guessed our way to the right area, but when we went to the entrance area, nobody could be found. There was a phone to dial for assistance, but it rang back to the same location. We wandered through many buildings and never saw a staff person for almost five minutes. When we finally spotted one, we tried to flag her down from a distance. She looked at us and then turned in the other direction (we were nicely dressed). Finally, another PATIENT finally pointed us in the right direction. We found our friend in the dining room and had our visit. During that visit, I watched how the staff treated the patients (RUDELY) and how dispassionate they were. I noted one who seemed to be a bit more caring, but most were not. I would NEVER place a relative here if I had the choice. By the way, our friend said the food here was absolutely awful. read more

If you are looking for a place for a loved one please run in the other direction from this facility. My mother was a resident for several years and the issues were many. Staff is rude and lazy and management will will not address the myriad of issues that exist. Bathrooms are not cleaned, residents are not assisted with dressing or bathing, and rooms are filthy. I picked my mom up for a holiday and found an infected bedsore that went unnoticed. I spent the holiday at Urgent Care. read more
