The problem with my travels to Spain is that I often leave the States with an almost-empty suitcase but on my return journey, will be faced with an excessive overweight bag penalty. Stores like Casa Yustas are responsible for this turn of events (and in a good way).
Casa Yustas is an army/navy store and sells all sorts of second-hand medallions and medals from the Spanish military and weaponry, as well as some articles of clothing, hats, and porcelain figurines. The shop is located along the bustling Plaza Mayor and has been open for business since 1894.

I did get a small flag with the coat of arms of Pontevedra, as that is where I am living this summer and thought it would be a neat way to decorate this year's travel journal. I also purchased a patch of the Spanish national flag, which I affixed to the sleeve of a military-style jacket. I'm certain that those of us who are not so creative can find gifts here that are not only unique, but speak to the rich history and culture of Spain. read more
