I lived at Casa Vera (CV) for 2 years (2017-2019).
Let me tell you all the ways they make me disappointed.
I lived in a 1/1 my first year and then moved into a 2/2 with my roommates the 2nd.
When you first move in, you'll be met with the beautiful floorplans, the gorgeous pool, the awesome clubhouse (that you can never use outside normal business hours, so - hey - if you have a job... good luck getting to use it!), and everything just WOWs you because it's upgraded, updated, and new.
Yeah.
That's where it stops.
Building 1: 3rd floor 1/1 unit.
There was a constant water drop sound between my wall and the adjacent apartment. It was IN the walls, and it was loud. When I made mention of it to the folks of CV, they were like: Yeah, we know about it, but nothing we can do. Welp. OK. I'll just hope it doesn't lead to mold!
You will hear sounds, but it depends on where your bedroom is at. Mine was up against the unit behind me. I could hear them argue, her walking in her heels at all hours of the day, etc. from my bedroom. I learned to live with it bc it's apt living. What do you expect? (This issue went away when I was in my 2/2 bc I had a corner room. So nothing was adjacent to me!)
Finished out my first year, friends wanted to move in together, and also my renewal offer for the 1/1? Yeah. I was paying $1565/mo + $28 trash/pest fee. They wanted to jump it to something ridiculous like $1720 if I were to renew my 1/1. The best part? ONLINE, they were advertising that unit (on the 3rd floor) for less than what my renewal would be. When I asked to negotiate, they were unwilling.
Also, those huge black crickets that look like cockroaches? Good luck with those AND with finding parking if you're by Building 1.
That's what led to discussions of moving in with friends.
My mistake? Staying with CV and moving to another building. I wanted to write a review so bad at the end of my first year, but I also didn't want to deal with CV reacting unprofessionally.
Building 9: 3rd floor 2/2 unit.
So, yeah. I moved to Building 9. Stayed there for a year, had no issues really. (Except for the first week when I moved in and someone else left trash on the 3rd floor, and a maintenance guy insisted it was my roommates and me.... like, no, it wasn't. Other people moved out and dumped it there. Please stop yelling at me.)
Everything was fine and dandy.
However when it came time to move, I knew - I JUST KNEW - there would be issues. Because that's how things roll at CV.
I failed to get my security deposit back in full. Why? Let me paint the picture:
Our lease ended on Saturday. I had run by earlier in the month to provide notice that we wouldn't be renewing and to drop off the last check, etc. I asked about the walk-through, and they said, "Oh, Arnold handles that." I followed up with, "So I just work it out with him?" Response: "Yes."
NOTHING ELSE.
They didn't say how to schedule a walk-through with Arnold or anything else. So based off my experience with my first apt, my presumption was to call and make an appointment with Arnold on the day of. (That's how he handled my walk-through. Just told me to go, and he'd go with me, and we'd walk-through.)
My roommate said he'd take care of it, and when he called to do the walk-through and turn over the keys on Saturday, the office told him: "Arnold/primary maintenance man isn't in. So you won't be able to do it today. Come tomorrow (Sunday)."
NO ONE told him there would be a "penalty" for turning in the keys late by going on Sunday. No one said, "Hey. He's not here, but come by to turn in the keys so you can avoid a penalty!" And it didn't occur to my friend because well you don't know what you don't know? And who'd think they'd be strict about a day when they said to COME TOMORROW? I mean, it's fairly evident, right? If someone had said anything about a fee, my friend would have gone over immediately.
So he went on Sunday. Arnold STILL wasn't there, but someone at the office told him to do the walk-through on his own, and that they'd do theirs separately. So he did. And, STILL, no one mentioned a penalty/late fee.
Meanwhile, no one is living in the apartment at this point. My roommates and I had all moved out by Wednesday (the 10th) prior to all this.
So... I think it's ridiculous that they're withholding $80.62 from my security deposit for being a day late when nothing was mentioned, especially when they made it sound like it'd be fine.
Just stay away form Casa Vera. They're far AF from the TPK/878/etc., their management truly doesn't care about you or your living situation or providing a fair means of living. It's not worth it. You can get more bang for your buck elsewhere and (most likely) with better customer service. read more
