I've given this a 'A-OK' in that it suited its purpose. I have experienced better but a plush…read morehotel was not what was on order for this holiday. The twin room I had provided what I needed for my stay. A bed to sleep in and a shower room to get clean in. It came equipped with fridge and usual kettle, etc to make refreshments, clean towels, etc. Unfortunately the blackout blind didn't work. Luckily I needed to wake at sunrise anyway so it didn't bother me too much. However, if this was not the case there might have been some frustration. That being said, because I didn't really need it, I didn't flag this to the hotel for them to sort in any case. My room was next to one other with our own little balcony area with seating and table provided. I stayed just prior to 'season' starting so there was a lot of activity around with getting the hotel sorted. There is a large pool area with a bar. This space gets prime sun but with very little shade so be warned! In the main building, there is also a rooftop bar with the double bed sun loungers available along with a few other seating spaces. Again, prime spot for sun so be sure to have your sun lotion/block to hand. The room was cleaned daily as expected. It was air conditioned (although I only really used it for heat in the evenings when it got chilly) but, this worked fine for the room. Adequate wardrobe and drawer space. The shower room as a little snug for accessory space with all the lotions and potions and think this might have been a struggle for 2 people to accommodate but, as I said, it was fine. I wasn't spending a lot of time in the room so it suited the purpose of a comfy space to sleep. A short walk away are a few supermarkets, restaurants and, importantly, the beach which took me around 15 mins to walk and it is a pleasant walk to get there. Free wifi is available although I seemed to get kicked off on regular intervals but enough for a quick check in on outside life. All in all, I thought this was a nice enough place to stay and the amenities around meant you didn't really need much more if you are coming to relax. It is a little remote from the busy of town but I believe there are local buses which can take you in to the different areas.

The hostel is in the middle of the old town in an old villa with a large central courtyard with…read morelots of plants and open air. The room was big, had air conditioning, a fridge and microwave, and a private bath. The canopied double bed was a tad small for two of us, but was very comfy. The bathroom was smallish and the shower a bit claustrophobic, but the water pressure was forceful. The liquid soap dispenser was full of water, not helpful, and there was no shampoo or conditioner available, so a small bar of soap would have been the only option had we not brought our contingency shower gel with us. The restaurant is 100 meters away on the plaza which is also where we checked-in. Ristorante Italiano Tuscana has an extensive menu of antipasti, pastas, meat dishes, desserts, and a full bar. They have an indoor, air-conditioned dining room and tables outdoors on the plaza. The food was very good, the portions appropriate, and the prices fair. We ate there twice and enjoyed our meals along with their resident dog, Rocco, who was very sweet, lingering near outdoor diners, but not begging or being a nuisance at all. Our dinners, a starter, main and wine/water ran around €50, not bad for good meal for two. The first night we has l'insalata caprese €8 and tortelli 4 formaggi ai burro e salvia €15 for my wife and the lasagna bolognese €10 for me along with a bottle of water with gas and a liter of sangria €12. My lasagna was delicious and HUGE, but my wife's tortelli had not been properly drained, watering down the rich butter and sage sauce, but my wife still enjoyed it. On the subsequent evening, we forewent the starter, my wife ordering the tagliatelli con funghi €10, me the spaghetti carbonara, and sharing the cotoletta alla milanese €12, a bottle of water and two glasses of house red wine. All were very tasty, especially the carbonara which was prepared in the traditional way by adding egg yokes just before serving with plenty o' pepper ... HOOAH! At €65 for our room, much lower in the off-season, Hostal Sixto and Ristorante Toscana were a definite Travelvalue and worth a return visit the next time we go to Naval Air Station Rota.
