We were on our way to the cita di bagnoreggio driving from Saturnia, in the Viterbo region and…read morepassed by Lake Bolsena and the castle in the town of Bolsena. It looked so cool that even though it was out of the way, after we were done from the bagnoreggio cita, we drove back to Bolsena so we can take pictures and have a meal there. Unfortunately, given our hectic schedule, we arrived too early for restaurants to be opened (6:30pm). After wandering around the small town, looking into all the restaurants setting their tables or the staff eating, we decided on this super touristy place that had tripadvisor stickers all over the front because 1. people were waiting outside for it to open, and 2. touristy places are bound to open straight at 7pm. After arriving promptly at 7pm, we realized that the people waiting outside were just staff, not locals excited to be eating in the place. We were seated in a table with red checked table cloth and give a menu of italian fare. We ordered a 4 seasons Calzone, a tortellini boscaiola pasta (creamy with bacon and mushrooms) and a side dish or porcini mushroom. The calzone was giant, but full of air and not a lot of stuffing. The pasta was unmemorable (i didnt even remember what i ordered until I checked my pics and then looked it up on their website). The porcini mushroom drenched in balsamic and olive oil was good. We didnt order any dessert (I had half bottle of wine and he had a beer for beverage), but the servers gave us this giant wine bottle that was labeled 95 percent alcohol and two shot glasses. I poured the content in a shotglass and it was chocolate syrup with a strong mint and alcohol smell. I tried very hard to drink it even though it was really thick and at first the alcohol was really overpowering, but the after taste was amazing. I was sufficiently drunk after two shots. That was the highlight! Overall it was definitely not good quality food, but it filled our tummies.

The seafood sampler appetizer included 6 different courses. By the time that was finished I hardly had room left for the seafood pasta dish I had ordered. Being an American foodie I can honestly say one of the best and most reasonably priced fresh seafood restaurants I have ever eaten in (and on the water with a view to match the food)!

Everything we ate was amazing and fresh. Special mention for the seafood antipasti which offered a diverse selection of fish. I also loved my spaghetti with clams. Great recommendation from our waiter for a local white wine, Est! Est!! Est!!!, which perfectly complemented the meal.
