When we did the drive to Rocca San Giovanni - we felt like it may be a little out of the way. As it turns out, it took us to this beautiful quiet and quaint little town, tucked into a little mountain area with the sea just a short trip away. We were thankful to escape the crowds in the city and find some respite right here. This place was very easy to find, and there was parking very close by about half a block away. We were greeted by the ever so lovely Isabella herself! She was so welcoming and offered us beverages and lunch, we just eaten but took her up on the coffee and a beautiful Italian sweet cookie filled with figs I think and dusted with icing sugar. We asked for directions to a monastery as well as where else to go - Isabella offered to take us there and to a local winery as well for a tour! They had offered to serve us dinner instead of having to leave the facility, so when we returned, dinner was served a few hours later. I must say that walking into the beautiful terrace, set up with candles, low lights, beautiful dinnerware and a balmy evening, we knew we were in paradise of sorts. They served us our delicious meal which included a traditional specialty from the area (I was hoping so much I'd remember what it was called!). Everything was laid out perfectly, and exceptionally good. As if that was not enough, when we woke in the morning, we came out to the terrace to find another beautifully set table with absolutely everything you'd ever want to eat for breakfast, with Isabella standing there pointing to the table and inviting us to enter. I'm sure you realize just how spoiled we felt, and we truly were spoiled with so many goodies, and such a beautiful place to be in. We peaked over the side of the terrace, only to find an entire alley filled with wonderful treasures from this old house as well as Isabella's goodies. I wish I had taken a photo of it. (will see if my husband has one to add later). Our room was gorgeous, spacious, the bathroom had everything in it that you could possibly want (including the best facial products, lots of water pressure in the shower, a chandelier, bidet, soft towels..), the bed was SO dreamy comfortable, and this room has the original tiles it from when - I don't know, just old and in wonderful shape, so smooth to walk on! This was the very best Bed and Breakfast we have stayed in ever, in our 43 years of doing so in various parts of the world. Please book ahead, this place is very popular! And I will be booking in advance for our next trip as well. read more
